Relena Was Dead: Chapter 8
by Wicked Child
?Are the handcuffs really that necessary Yuy??
?You?re a dangerous man Barton, or do you prefer Bloom?? Heero lead his former comrade toward the waiting car. ?I?m keeping you in cuffs in order to protect the innocent citizens of earth.?
?Aren?t you just the knight in shining armor?? Trowa replied. His tone was neutral, not revealing any of the anger and annoyance that he held within for Heero Yuy.
?Just get in the car.? Heero roughly aided the taller man into the car as Relena watched from her porch. After his prisoner was safely inside, Heero looked back at the woman that betrayed him. ?You have no idea what you?ve done. Trowa?s in some serious shit right now but it won?t compare to what will happen to you if you dare to show your face at Preventer headquarters. You?ll wish you really were dead.?
?Do not threaten me Heero Yuy, you were never good at it and you certainly never had the nerve to follow through.? Relena switched her attention to her husband. ?I?ll see you soon and everything will be okay.?
Trowa nodded and gave her a small smile. She doesn?t know that things will ever be the same now. They can?t. No one will allow us?. Trowa stopped himself before finishing his thought. He couldn?t think that way. He kept his emerald green eyes fixed on his wife as he heard Heero get inside the car, preparing for the airport. His eyes never left hers as the two men drove away. Husband and wife wondered if that would be the last time they would see each other.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
?You think you?re smart don?t you Trowa?? Heero?s eyes glanced at the review mirror and looked at the man in the backseat. ?You erased your existence in the Preventer database and made it impossible to search for your old circus and adopted family. But I should have paid more attention that day when Zechs was giving out instructions for the burial. You didn?t give a damn and we all just accepted that as you being you. But it wasn?t was it??
Trowa looked at his captor evenly. ?If I acted any differently you would have been tipped off that something was amiss. I was prepared to act emotional but Relena advised against it. To the rest of you we were never all that close, barely meeting during the Eve Wars despite our obvious roles. I acted the way you expected me to act. Simple as that.?
?Hn.?
Silence stretched between the two for the remainder of the ride. Heero stopped at his motel and gathered his belongings while Trowa waited in the car. Heero wasn?t fearful that the former Preventer would escape, as the handcuffs were recent upgrades that even he had a hard time getting out of. When he returned to the vehicle he found Trowa still sitting in the backseat though his eyes were closed now and he was humming to himself. The humming stopped the moment Heero opened the driver?s door.
?To the airport Mr. Warden?? Trowa asked flippantly.
Heero glared at the tall man. ?This is just a joke to you isn?t it? Not even Duo would find this funny.?
?I?m not Duo.?
?No you?re not. Duo?s a friend, someone I can trust. You? You?re nothing but a common criminal.?
Trowa smirked in spite of himself. He knew he should be a docile prisoner but his captor was someone he had once felt close to and once envied. He couldn?t help but be a bit of an ass considering Heero?s self-righteous attitude.
?Maybe so. But don?t categorize me as common. I?m a criminal that led a happy life for the past six years with a wonder wife and two children.?
Anger had slowly been building from the moment Trowa first opened his mouth at the house. Relena?s devotion only furthered it. And now the taunts and barbs being tossed at him from the former made the anger boil over. Heero lashed out.
?Trowa,? he said in a calm voice, too calm. The other man looked over. ?My actions are justified in keeping a dangerous criminal silent and protecting innocent civilians.?
Trowa?s brows rose in anticipation but what came next was something he wasn?t prepared for.
Heero slammed on the brakes and turned around slamming his fist into his prisoner?s jaw. Trowa?s head jerked back then hit the side window as Heero?s fist slammed into his face again, effectively knocking him out.
Ragged breathing was the only thing heard in the car as Heero started driving again. To him, it was a beautiful sound.

The moment Trowa was out of her sight Relena went inside, making her way to their shared office. She pulled out the executive office chair they bought at a local discount store and turned the vid-phone on. There was only one number that came to her mind and she didn?t hesitate to dial it. The line was secure and right then it was the only thing secure in Relena?s life. Moments passed as she waited silently for the other end to pick up. She refused to think about what would be happening in the car right then or once the former comrades reached Preventer headquarters.
?Hello?? The person on the other end of the phone blinked several times in an effort to make the clinging sleep dissipate. Once the eyes focused, the person?s face hardened. ?What?s wrong??
?Special Agent Bloom, code name White Hawk has been taken into custody by Preventer agent Heero Yuy.?
?Time??
?The Preventer agent left moments ago with Special Agent Bloom. Past histories between the two agents could result in violence as well as new found animosity.?
?Do we know if Agent Yuy has informed his superiors of his latest capture??
?Unknown. However Agent Yuy did seem to be acting on his own which would lead one to believe that there are ulterior motives behind tonight?s actions.?
The person on the other end sighed. ?You should have just told everyone what you planned on doing. Yuy?s feelings would have been hurt but at least he wouldn?t view you or Bloom as enemies.? Relena did not respond and the person sighed again. ?What do you plan on doing to get your husband back??
?Certain truths are going to be revealed. It?s only natural that this truth would be as well.?
The person nodded. ?I?ll keep an eye on things as this will certainly stir up a lot of talk and emotions. If things go from bad to worse I?ll step in.? Relena nodded. ?Do you plan on going to Preventer HQ?? Again Relena nodded. ?I advise you against this but I won?t stop you either. How?re the kids??
?Despite initial shock and fear they are doing relatively well. I?m going to have Mrs. Nelson watch the kids for a time while I?m gone.?
?And have you informed your husband of your new pregnancy??
Relena?s face fell. She?d found out during Trowa?s last absence that they would be having a newborn in the coming summer but due to Heero?s appearance and all the emotions flying around she had been unable to inform her husband. ?No,? was the most Relena could utter as tears threatened to spill down her cheeks.
?Get some rest. Then make the necessary preparations, not just physical but mental and emotional as well. Your reappearance is going to create a firestorm.?
?Only if I allow it. Good night and I do apologize for waking you at such an hour.?
The person shrugged. ?I have to be up in a few as it is. Meetings and negotiations to be made.?
?I don?t miss it one bit.? Relena smiled despite her anguish.
?We do miss you though. Get some rest.? The screen went blank and Relena sat back in her chair, her eyes staring at nothing in particular.

Maxwell awoke from a bad dream of someone trying to push him off a cliff but found it was just his sister pushing her feet against his back in her sleep.
?Bella!? he whispered in irritation. His only response was Bella softly moaning and giving him a swift kick sending him flying off his parent?s bed. He landed with a dull thud and a sore knee. Something wet poked his cheek.
?Quatre, I?m fine. It?s just a scrape.?
The dog licked the boy?s cheek and trotted back to his own bed where his mate waited impatiently. After Quatre resettled himself in his doggy bed, Maxwell looked around the room.
His mama wasn?t in bed and he knew his papa was no longer home. Then he heard a noise coming from another room. Curious as any boy his age, though his papa once said that his curiosity was reminiscent of an old friend who always got himself into trouble, Maxwell decided he had to check it out.
The boy followed the sound to his parent?s office. The door was wide open but the lights were off. From one of the hallway night-lights Maxwell could discern his mama?s figure hunched over in a chair sobbing. He?d never seen his mother cry like this before, if ever. Well she did cry when Bella was born but that was different. Papa said she was happy but I still think Mama was upset that Bella wasn?t another me.
?Why God? What have we done that is so terrible that this would happen to us? Couldn?t they just leave us alone? We were happy!? Relena was overcome with emotion, unable to finish her own ranting.
Maxwell bit his lip. He didn?t want to see his mama like this. It was foreign, it was heartbreaking, it was wrong. Tears began to slip down his cheeks as he watched his precious mother.
?Please God, don?t take away my family. Don?t take away our happiness! Please. Please?.?
Maxwell could stand it no longer. He rushed to his mama?s side and hugged her as best he could. ?It?s okay Mama,? he said through his own tears. ?If God can?t do it, I will! I?ll keep us happy and safe. Just don?t cry anymore. Please!?
Relena could barely see her eldest child but she picked him up in her arms and hugged him fiercely. ?Oh baby,? she whispered rocking back and forth.
?If God can?t do it, I will Mama. Okay?? Maxwell repeated himself but his words were muffled by not only his sobs but his mother?s as well.
