Love, Me
I read a note my grandma wrote back in nineteen twenty-three.
Grandpa kept it in his coat, and he showed it once to me. He said,
"Boy, you might not understand, but a long, long time ago,
Grandma's daddy didn't like me none, but I loved your Grandma so."
"Christian, come here," called a deep voice from a bench at the side of the garden. The boy stopped teasing the ducks and looked over to where his grandpa was sitting.
"What is it grandpa?" he asked. He brushed off his dirty knees and took a seat by his elderly grandpa.
"I want to share something with you," answered his grandfather. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a picture and a crumpled piece of paper. He first showed the boy the picture, which showed a pretty young blonde woman laughing.
"Who's that," asked the boy.
"That's your grandma. She was so beautiful," he answered, a far away look in his eyes. She wrote me this note long ago. Even before we were married.
We had this crazy plan to meet and run away together.
Get married in the first town we came to, and live forever.
But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet, instead
Of her, I found this letter, and this is what it said:
Your grandma and I lived during the war of AC195. The same war that killed your grandma's dad. It wasn't acceptable for us to be together, but we didn't care. We were young and in love. At the time, your grandma was the Vice-Foreign Minister. She had responsibilities to the people and she would lose respect if I married her. I was a Gundam pilot, it was believed I would ruin her.
Finally she was able to escape from her duties. We were going to go where no one knew us. Some place on earth. We'd get married, have children. But when I went to meet her, all I found was a note.
If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through;
I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you.
Love, Me
Your grandma joined me later. But when that threat to peace came, she just couldn't leave right away. But she promised she'd meet me, and she did. It was a year later, but we were finally able to marry. I'll never forget it.
I read those words just hours before my Grandma passed away,
In the doorway of a church where me and Grandpa stopped to pray.
I know I'd never seen him cry in all my fifteen years;
But as he said these words to her, his eyes filled up with tears.
The boy sat staring at his grandfather. Tiny droplets of water were forming in his grandfather's eyes and the boy was amazed. The legendary Heero Yuy was crying. The boy thought about his grandmother, at home in the bed fighting cancer. He and his grandfather had came to the church to pray for her, knowing that she would want them to.
Suddenly he heard a slight whisper from his grandfather. The old man's eyes were closed and water droplets ran along his cheeks. The boy strained to hear what he was saying, and just barely caught the words. When he heard what the old man was saying, his own eyes filled up with tears.
If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through;
I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you.
Love, Me

Love, Me
Relena Dorlian died later that night. Her husband followed her a year later. I however still hold the letter, and the words in my memory. Its been five years since that incident and the church, and now as I stand here getting married I can only think of the great love they had for one another. Nothing could keep them apart. I look at my own wife to be and know that I too will have that love.
"Do you Christian Yuy take this woman to be your lawful wedded wife?"
"I do." Love me.
Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing or any of its characters. I do not own the song Love, Me, or it's singer Collin Raye either.
