Chapter 2

She was not supposed to leave after dark. It was one of the old woman's rules.

And even though the moon was still large in the sky, one never knew who or what could be prowling around. Heero had already disposed of one threat to the girl, Relena's, safety. The man had been watching her with eyes the wolf didn't like. And a simple warning hadn't been enough.

<i> The man had a mop of blond hair that was cropped short in the back while the front hung into his face. His jeans were tied with a belt around his hips, but otherwise were too large for that half of his body. The pants legs hung down, completely hiding the man's legs, and were caked with mud from the torn cuffs to the knee. But above all, it was his face that Heero didn't like. His eyes were black, too small, and shifted from side to side when he spoke. Facial hair grew on his chin and under his nose, but it wasn't trimmed; it grew thick and scraggly around his crooked-set mouth. The man staggered along a gathering of bushes along the west end of the old woman's land. His hand skimmed along the top of the leaves as if he was just out for a stroll. But the man's gaze was turned towards the house. And Heero knew, just like he knew the man did, too: Relena was due to come out that door any minute to drive off to town.

As a wolf, he had an unfair disadvantage against humans. Though their intellect was roughly the same, humans were bigger, taller, and had weapons like guns. The wolf thought it best to deliver a warning in the man's own language. The women of the house didn't need to attract any more attention to the fact they lived alone.

Heero stood at the end of the long row of bushes. But the man was so intent on the old woman's house, he didn't see Heero until the two had practically collided. "You're trespassing. This is private property."

The man's face twisted into a sick grin. "It ain't yer property."

Heero snarled. But it didn't seem to have the same effect with human features. "Leave."

"I think yer the one that'll be doin the leavin." He pulled a pistol from the back of his pants and aimed. Heero's flesh crawled as he landed on what used to be his arms. Hair thickened and grew all over his body.

The man stood still, mouth open and gaping like a fish. Heero took advantage of his enemy's surprise and attacked.

The gunshot split the air.</i>

She had begun calling him 'her wolf', and continued even after he told her his name. She left him food, raw chunks of fresh rabbit meat or venison. Once, she even left him an entire steak. It wasn't enough for him to live on, but the attitude was there.

She thought he belonged to her.

Her wolf.

How mistaken.

He protected her because she was his. He had only to claim her. And he would, even if he had to take her as a man.

Nothing had induced him to transform into his human form for years. He had given up on the human race. It wasn't like he hadn't given them a chance.

But his childhood as a human child... He didn't know if the other children could somehow sense he was different, or maybe it was just that he could never truly relate to beings so out of touch with the beauty of nature, and unaware, repressive of their natural, animal instincts.

He knew it before the window went up, almost like he could sense her disquiet, that she intended to leave her room as soon as the old woman went to bed. Her long hair was pulled away from her face, and she wore a robe over her clothing. The woods should be safe at this time of night, but he followed at a safe distance.

She passed through the shadows in the grove. The moon was still low in the sky, and drew silver cobwebs through the branches to shed some little light along the path. He padded quietly, stopping every few steps to allow her to get further ahead. He knew where she was going, there was no need to rush. A slight breeze stirred the fur on his back and he enjoyed its cool touch.

Heero searched the small clearing for any sign of intruders. But all was silent and still. A few beetles crawled on the remains of felled oak's trunk, and he heard the faint call of an owl from high above. But those were only natural. If he hadn't heard those sounds, then he'd be concerned.

Convinced that there was no danger to the girl, the wolf continued to follow her path towards the more open area where the pond was located.

The moon played a game of peek-a-boo with the clouds before creating a fine silver mist dispersed in the fog. The natural pond was larger than the grove situated near it. A thick spruce fence grew along the circumference of the clearing, which extended several meters all around the natural water source.

Some few white and grey colored stones lined one side of the pool. Heero squinted to see the dark outline of her form against the sky. She was bent over, probably wearing that yellow swimming outfit that covered too much skin. Women's bodies? He never understood their desire for modesty.

The clouds broke; streams of light flooded the secluded clearing. The girl picked just that moment to rise up, tossing her head and drenched locks through the air in front of a silver backdrop.

Moonlight ran in rivulets down her face and neck to caress the exposed skin of her chest; it collected in a small stream between the valley of her breasts and worked its way lower on her naked body. Her hands came up to wipe the water out of her eyes and comb her fingers through her hair.

The water and the air must have been cool for her hairless flesh. He could tell by the way her skin puckered into thousands of tiny bumps, and her nipples became two hard points. But she bent forward again to cup water in her hands and press the liquid against her chest, as if to cool herself down.

His eyes followed the water as it traced silver paths everywhere he wanted to touch. The sound of a growl reached his ears. It was his voice.

<i>'There's only one reason she could be hot in this weather, in that water.' </i>

The wolf smirked at the idea.

They had both been injured that day. And a wolf's blood was notoriously hotter than humans'.

Relena brought another handful of water up and splashed it over her neck, then allowed her palms to follow the liquid down over her collarbone and finally cup her ample bosom. The index finger of each hand drew painstakingly slow circles around the areolas of her breasts, leaving just enough water behind on her skin to reflect the moonlight.

His own temperature was rising, and he felt himself draw closer to the water. Her body gleamed in the light. She pinched her nipples between her forefingers and thumbs. Her head lurched back, and her mouth opened in a silent cry. His heart raced at the sight of her there, begging him to take her; his blood already pulsing hot through her veins.

The breeze turned colder, or rather, he looked down and his fur had thinned. He was changing. Heero brought a human hand up to study it and flexed his fingers. A few yards away, Relena's right palm moved from her breast down over the smooth flesh of her stomach.

The wolf, changed, stood upright and started towards the girl in the water.

* * * * * *
Relena stood, thigh deep, in the middle of the pond and trailed her right hand down towards the curls at the junction between her legs. Her body was on fire; her heart raced, and it was becoming difficult to breathe. The cold water didn't seem to do anything but make the ache smolder and smoke, choking the air from her lungs until she felt lightheaded and weak.

A groan escaped her lips as her fingers tangled in her pubic hair; her left hand continued to stimulate the bud of her right breast. Her eyelids slid shut?

"Uh!"

A splash sounded from the edge of the pool. Relena's eyes opened and her head snapped up. She swallowed a cry at the sight of a man, a man she'd never seen before, clad only in a pair of shorts and wading towards her in the water. Chestnut colored hair rippled in the cool breeze; his body was lean, his chest and every muscle in his shoulders and arms could be seen as if a tanned hide had been stretched over the body underneath. He was tall, with a lean face and jaw, but it was his eyes that held her captive.

Dark blue eyes pinned her beneath his gaze, daring her, defying her to move away. She swallowed against a lump in her throat; how long had he been watching?

Relena took a step back even as he grew closer. She felt herself shiver and she tried to cover herself from his view. But she couldn't look away from those eyes. They looked almost black, with the moonlight reflecting off their surface to mimic starlight in their depths. He reached her side, and extended a single hand to grip her waist.

She gasped. "Wh-who. Who are--"

His mouth stole the rest of her question. Warm, soft lips bore down on hers as the man crushed her body against him. Her mind told her to struggle, to try and pull away, but the rest of her had ceased to obey anything her brain commanded. She kissed him back; her arms wound around his neck, pulling herself even closer - if that was possible. One of his legs moved between hers and his left arm wrapped around her middle. He pulled the top half of his body upright, but tipped her back over his arm.

Cool air caressed her chest, a sharp contrast to the heat his body had further ignited in her blood. She closed her eyes when she felt his right hand touch her cheek before trailing a finger down the front of her neck, down her sternum, then veer to the left to knead her breast.

"Ah!" Relena couldn't stop from crying out. Her legs clamped down on the mostly bare limb between them, bringing her swollen labia in contact with his skin.

She ached, and writhed against him in some mostly silent plea for him to end her torment. He finally bent over her, sucking on her neck, and drawing sinful patterns on her skin with his tongue. Her arms, formerly slack at her sides, came up to wrap around his back and she tried to press every inch of her body into him.

<i>'This is wrong.' </i> A quiet voice screamed in her mind. But she couldn't make her body believe it.

Wet grass tickled her backside as ground suddenly rose up out of nowhere to support her. Or maybe he had been carrying her all this time. He was a dream, he had to be. No man this gorgeous would just appear out of nowhere to make love to her?

And that was what she was asking him to do, wasn't she? How could she do such a thing with a man she didn't even know?

Logic pulled at her eyelids even as she felt him kneel between her legs. She opened her eyes only to drown in his. He lifted an eyebrow and the corner of his mouth twitched into something like an arrogant grin. But before she could manage to feel indignant, he stole the rest of the air from her lungs with his kiss.

He might have actually kissed her unconscious, except she could still feel everything in vivid colors and bright lights. Like someone had gone and stuck tiny, electrically charged needles in every pore so that each breath against her skin was amplified with electric pulses. Her eyes closed, and she tried to catch her breath. But then his mouth claimed her breast, his teeth scraping over and biting gently at the sensitive center.

"Ahhhhh!" She rose off the ground to press it further into his mouth. But he responded by relinquishing it all together.

Her fingers clawed at the dirt as he kissed his way down her body. She wanted... Her legs twisted as she searched desperately for relief from the throbbing ache in her center.

She wanted... Relena's entire body tightened when his hot breath stirred her curls. All thoughts of her modesty gone, she felt him part her folds and thought she was going to die if he didn't touch her.

She wanted... His tongue lapped at the painful nub nestled at the center of her body. Fire ignited those smoldering embers, and consumed her. Her hands released the grass and latched onto his forearms holding her down at her waist. She wanted to shift closer so he could press harder, but his grasp held her still. It was excruciating pleasure, and her only thought was how badly she needed him to complete her.

She wanted... Relena concentrated everything on the sensations he was exacting from her body, as if he was a master musician, and she his treasured instrument. Her muscles kept a steady rhythm of tighten and release, tighten and release, until her muscles constricted so taut she thought she would tear in half.

She reached for his hand, to hold it in her own, and raised her head to kiss it.

She wanted...
To know his name.
To always feel just like this.
To think he might have loved her...

She dropped his hand. Lightning struck her core, and fractured into a thousand electric thrills. Her body clamped down, raising her shoulders off the ground as she let out a loud cry into the night.

She was only vaguely aware of anything, and everything. But it suddenly occurred to her what she had vocalized with her climax.

'Heero...'

Air... There wasn't enough air.

It was so hard for her to brea--
* * * * * *
Relena opened her eyes and stared up at the white popcorn ceiling of her bedroom. She yawned and extended both hands above her head to stretch her sluggish muscles. Her red robe lay draped over the high backed chair at her desk. The same robe that--

She blinked and peeled the comforter up to look underneath. The ivory nightgown she had put on the night before covered her body.

<i>'Wh-Who...who are you?'</i>

Relena was sure she had never seen him before. The man in her vision. The man she let...

Her dream came flooding back into her mind and the air in her room turned cold. Or perhaps her body temperature rose. When she glanced in the mirror of her vanity, her skin was flushed and pink.

<i>'I...I did that with a man. I let him touch me. He watched me touch myself.' </i> Even as a dream, the thought was disconcerting. That she would do those things. That she wanted to do those things.

With Heero, the wolf.

Her wolf.

Relena didn't know much about wolves. She knew they were dangerous, and very intelligent; she knew what meats they liked, and that they liked meats. Heero always ate what she left out for him, though she knew it wasn't enough to sustain him. But aside from that little bit, she had no knowledge that could explain why a wolf would protect her.

"Certainly, if he felt some amount of obligation to me for helping him, he returned that favor already."

<i> Relena walked out the front door and found him standing there, staring at her with those piercing, yellow eyes. His dark grey coat was spotted in blood, and he wobbled a bit on that injured leg when he took a step towards her. She ran to his side.

"Are you hurt? What happened? Another trapper? Where are you injured?" She checked his body, running her fingers through his fur, trying to find any sign of trauma. He lay down on the ground and closed his eyes. Relena shook him.

"Wake up. I'll get you to a vet. But you can't--"

He raised his head and looked at her. Almost like he was mocking her. He stood up and shook himself off.

"You're all right?" She asked, kneeling down in front of him. He paced around her, his steps steady even if he still limped slightly on that leg. The wolf paused in front of her, and cocked his head to one side. He growled, but didn't bare his teeth. Relena had no idea what he wanted to tell her.

He lunged, pushing her backwards onto her rear. She sat down hard, emitting an "Ooof" as the collision knocked the wind out of her. He clamored down and curled up in the loose space between her legs; his head rested on her lower left thigh.

She blinked at the animal nestled in her lap. Relena had expected him to be wary of her, but he seemed perfectly at ease. 'Maybe a little too at ease.' She felt her knee tighten up, but didn't dare move it. After a few seconds, the wolf turned his head to stare at her. The dark patch of fur above his eyes made it seem like he was angry.

She heard a low rumble from his throat, and reached out to soothe him. This was apparently what he had been demanding from her because as soon as she began to stroke his fur, he laid his head back down on her thigh.

"You want me to pet you?" Relena didn't expect any sort of a response. She just continued to comb her fingers through his gorgeous coat, feeling the powerful body beneath as it breathed in and out. In and out.

She felt his breathing deepen. Was he asleep? In her lap? Was that even possible? How could this be a wild, ferocious wolf? She smiled down at the sleeping animal, and continued to pet his back in long, rhythmic strokes. Her fingers found a patch of thicker fur just behind his neck, and she scratched there.

The wolf pawed the ground, and rubbed his nose against her thigh. A shiver ran down the length of his spine, giving her the impression he rather enjoyed being touched there.

"You like that?"

Something like a half-sigh, half-whimper escaped his mouth. She leaned forward to give him a hug, but before she could get her arms around him, the wolf's head jerked up, instantly alert, and he sprung from her lap. He sniffed the air, and growled in the direction of the forest.

"What is it? Is someone there?"

His yellow eyes continued to stare at some point behind her. Relena stood and looked around, searching for possible danger. The wolf started to trot away, off on another path, heading away from the house, and the grove.

"Wait!" She started after him. The grey wolf turned to look back. "Are?are you sure you're not hurt? Where did the blood come from? Is there danger?"

He paced towards her. Relena bent down on one knee. She wanted to hug him, have him near again. There was something so?powerful, yet soothing about him.

The wolf stopped a few feet away, his gold eyes alert and fixed on her.

A deep voice spoke within her mind. 'Heero.'

"Heero?"

The wolf turned and ran off.

"Relena! Relena!" Her grandmother's voice sounded tired and winded from somewhere behind her. Relena turned around as the older lady moved as fast as she could over the broken ground. She rushed towards her grandma to help her.

"Oh thank heavens, dear. I was so worried. The McAffreys called a bit ago, said they found a man's body. I just got back from there. Oh, dear, it was awful. Had to have been a wild beast. It was just terrible."

Relena let her grandmother lean on her for support as the made their way to the house. "What happened?"

"The McAffreys think it was a wolf that killed him." The older lady huffed and puffed for air. Relena stopped to let her catch her breath. "But. But I have never known a wolf. To attack a human unprovoked."

The younger woman stopped in her tracks. Her grandmother tried to take another step and came up short.

"A wolf?" Relena glanced up at the older woman. Her heart had picked up its pace and was now pounding in her chest.

"Lori has already called in the Sheriff." Her grandmother glanced around and found a tree stump that would suffice as a seat. "They're on their way, dear." The older woman lowered herself onto the stump, placed both hands on her knees and tried to catch her breath. After a minute or two, she stared up at Relena while she finished her thought: "But please be careful from now on. I don't like you to go out into the grove alone. It just is not safe, dear."

'Heero...My kind and gentle wolf. Killed a man.'</i>

When the Sheriff arrived, he thoroughly investigated the incident. The coroner took the body away; days later, it was indeed concluded the man had been attacked, and his throat torn out, by the jaws of a wolf.

However, the man, a Harvey Whittle, identified by his pre-autopsy fingerprints, had an arrest record; he was just released from prison after serving five years for stalking and sexual misconduct with a minor. Harvey was found in possession of an illegal handgun at the time of death, recently fired, and trespassing on private property. The old Sheriff was quoted as saying the man got what he deserved.

"I protected him from being crippled by that awful trap. He protected us from a dangerous criminal." She frowned and pulled the comforter up tight under her chin. "I haven't seen him since then, though he still accepts the food I leave for him from time to time. But will he eventually leave?"

Relena stared up at the ceiling and asked the light fixture overhead:"Why am I so attached? How does he know when I'm talking to him, and understand what I say?" She let out a sigh and rolled over, trying to get comfortable so she could go back to sleep. She wasn't sure what time it was, but she was sure she could sleep just a little longer...

"I know wolves are intelligent, but he's as smart as any human I've ever met." She yawned and snuggled into her pillow. "And who was that man in my dream? Why can I remember his eyes, but not his face?"

She closed her eyes. "How could I have let him touch me like that?"

"And call out Heero's name?"

Oh goodness! *Fans herself vigorously* That was certainly... I enjoyed Heero's little speech about her thinking he belongs to her. It really set up this great mood for the rest of the story and it totally went with Heero's alpha male attitude. What's with Heero and turning into a wolf these days? Maybe he just enjoys it... :D Thank you for updating, it made my day! You really do have an amazing talent, but you probably already knew that. Until the next chapter... :salute:

Rose,

*Blushes* I'm not one to normally read really explicit, graphic sexual content, and I must say... it was definitely a heated passage you wrote for that scene. You were tasteful though, not using slang and so forth (which, in my opinion, would have ruined the atomosphere of the chapter). I'm not very experienced in the lemon department (hence my previous statement  ), but from what I know (which is slim to none), it was very well done.

You have me hypnotized with this piece, with its sensuality and eloquence and mystery. It's just so original, and Heero's possessiveness and instinct just gave me the shivers. You just write so well.

I'm hoping this dream business gets cleared up soon, because I'm somewhat confused with everything... was it really a dream, or something a little bit more real...

I guess I'll just have to find out in the next chapter. :bounce:

Thanks for writing this, Rose, and good luck!

Glorious work as per your usual.

Heh. It's both funny and sad to me to see Heero as a wolf mainful because he has a hard enough time getting along with people as a human. . . this whole new level of alienation is just. . . .

Well, Relena will just have to love him that much more to make up for it.

That was just terrific! Great! I don't have words! And I love wolves and stories with them! And well, Relena you naughty girl! How could you dream such a dream??? *playful tone* I really love it. And even if it's an AU, Heero and Relena are very in character (for an AU of course :-P ) I agree with others - Black Rose has great talent! *nod*

Oh, I've got few questions:

1. Is Heero a werewolf or wolf with ability to transform into a human?

2. Relena doesn't have anybody else besides her granny, does she?

3. This AU is in the present, right?

4. Will we know Heero's past?

I think it's all I wanted to ask :D The most important question is the first one. So please answer just on first if you don't want to answer me on others, Black Rose.

Thanks, lil Rasp ( :-P )

What great timing for me. I've just read 3 romance stories dealing with werewolves, and I was thinking wistfully where I could find more, when I checked this thread again, and here's chapter 2 of something I haven't even read chapter 1 before.

Still, I like it...although honestly I can't think of scenes like this without thinking of Inuyasha (though he's a dog demon, they're still cousins with wolves...anyway back to the matter at hand).

I like Heero's attitude towards Relena...after all wolves are supposed to be territorial and his subsequent attraction and *coughs again* actions towards Relena give me a thrill.

Enjoyable...as usual...keep up the good work for us happy fans. *_*
