::Heero?s monotone voice:: Standard disclaimers apply and all.
[Heero and Hilde sit outside a quiet caf? opposite their apartment building, catching up on the past.]
~*~
Heero couldn?t believe that Hilde and Duo were having a baby. Of course, it wasn?t until well into the conversation that the whole ordeal back home came up. Hilde twisted her hands nervously as her voice changed from excited to morose. ?Heero, there?s something you should know.?
Heero?s blood ran cold. He thought, ?What could possibly have happened now?!?
He silently urged her to continue.
Hilde took a sip of her tea and a deep breath, then let the whole story spill forth.
Heero sat back in his chair, unable to speak a word. The happiness that had filled him upon learning that Relena had not, in fact, cheated on him was now gone. Now he was filled with the anger that claimed him before, but now fresh again. He mentally chided himself. She hadn?t actually cheated on him; he had left. He had left her vulnerable and heartbroken. He really didn?t blame her; she had every right to try to find comfort elsewhere. This whole thing could have been avoided if he had just trusted her in the first place. That?s part of what love is; trust. A single tear rolled down his cheek, confusing the hell out of Hilde. Since when had this unemotional soldier taken up crying, of all things?! She had thought that to be her forte. He glanced up. ?Do you forgive him??
She nodded slowly at first, but then more vigorously. ?Yeah, I forgave him a long time ago. I just didn?t have the strength to go back, because Duo still doesn?t know that I?m having our baby; I was going to tell him the day I found out about him and Relena.?
Heero wanted to go back, but he knew that he had to stay and support the younger woman. She was in no condition to fly home, so he would care for her and the new born until the baby was old enough to travel. He told Hilde this and her solemn face broke out in a wide grin. She thanked him profusely and as they left the caf?, there was a new glow in her demeanor.
Suddenly, in the middle of a busy Tokyo intersection, Hilde doubled over in pain, gasping for breath. It took Heero a second to realize what was happening, but as Hilde grabbed his shirt it dawned on him. However, the light turned green and the cars around them started to honk, while some drivers chose to hang out the window and yell obscenities in Japanese. Heero gave them a Bird that would have made Duo proud. He helped Hilde over to the side of the road and dialed 911 on his newly purchased cell phone. Within minutes an ambulance came roaring down the road, screeching to a halt near the pair. At this point, Hilde was attempting to break Heero?s hand and had nearly popped his eardrums. She was loaded into the emergency vehicle, dragging a poor, confused Heero with her, his hand red and nearly crippled from her vice like grip. They were at the hospital in no time.
~*~
He stood outside the nursery, watching his best friend?s son sleep. Hilde was asleep in her room, oblivious to the chaos that is a hospital around her. Heero?s bandaged hand lightly touched the glass as the boy in the bassinet awoke and began to test his healthy set of lungs. Heero smirked; the child, only hours old, was already so much like Duo. He envisioned himself in a similar hospital, but instead of staring at his friends? baby, he would be staring at his own. He stood in awe of the fact that a nonexistent child had wormed its way so easily into his heart, past all of the stone around it. He couldn?t wait to get back to Relena and tell her exactly how he felt. This time, there would be no disappearance.
A/N: ::big grin:: ::holds chapter nine between her fingers and watches the sap drip to the floor.:: Oops, did I do that? ::giggles::
*Jess appears again, rolling her eyes* Oh puh-leeze Liz, can we say ?sap attack?? But totally cute no matter how OOC Heero is!
::Liz glares:: Okay, you?re off the hook for now, because it was just sooo cute
