[Heero has disappeared and a heartbroken Relena has called Heero?s best friend, Duo Maxwell.]
The phone rang at Duo Maxwell?s apartment. It rang again. It rang a third time. But Duo managed to catch the phone at the very last possible second. ?Hello??
The cheerful voice on the other end of the line brought a fresh burst of tears to Relena?s eyes. ?It?s Relena,? she said in a shaky, sobbing voice, ?Heero?s gone. Gone! He went to the grocery store and never came back. I thought that sort of thing only happened in stories. We were so close, Duo! We almost made it down the aisle. Do you have any idea where he went? I figured you would know, since you?re his friend?that?s why I called you instead of Hilde.?
Duo couldn?t believe what he was hearing. He knew that his best friend loved Relena, so why would he leave?! It just didn?t make any sense. ?Gee Relena, I?m really sorry to hear that. I can?t believe he would do that to you! I have no idea where he is, but I?ll be right over.?
?Thank you,? she whispered.

. The intercom of her apartment crackled and Relena buzzed Duo in. He was at her door in a matter of seconds. Relena opened the door. Standing there, with her tear-stained face, she looked so vulnerable. She stepped aside to let him in and closed the door. At that moment, she realized just how very much she missed Heero and started crying again. Duo, unsure of what to do, gave her a hug and let her cry all over his new shirt. Then all of a sudden, Relena pulled herself together. She looked into his eyes and found so many different emotions there. She saw Duo in a new light?..

Relena awoke the next morning, astonished to see a man next to her. At first she thought it was Heero, but then the memories of last night came flooding back. She sat up and covered her mouth in horror?she couldn?t believe what she?d done! She had betrayed so many people; her lost fianc? Heero, her best friend Hilde, but most of all herself. She had slept with a man she loved only as a friend, something she had told herself she would never do. But she had done it and now she had to face this with maturity. A loud snore pulled her away from her thoughts. She almost laughed out loud at the disarray of Duo?s precious braid. Quietly she disentangled herself from the sheets and dressed to go for a run. The cold morning air would help clear her head.

Relena returned to the apartment to the smell of coffee. Duo was sitting at the table, eating Fruit Loops and reading the comics. She suddenly pictured him, six years old doing the exact same thing. She smiled and said hi. Duo looked up from the newspaper and, mouth full of cereal, returned the greeting. Then an uncomfortable look crossed his face. He finished his Fruit Loops and began to clean up his mess. Relena broke the ice by saying, ?I?ve been thinking, Duo. What happened last ni-? Duo cut her off. ?I?ve been dumped enough times to know what that means, but I think we both know that last night should not have happened. Things got out of hand. I think we were both feeling kinda lonely?did I tell you that Hilde hasn?t talked to me in two weeks?? Think you could find out why??
Relena started laughing. Duo had gone from apologizing about ?it? to asking her to help him deal with Hilde. ?You are so right Duo?I?ll try to find out what?s on Hilde?s mind if you?ll try to find out where Heero went, ok??
?Deal,? Duo said with a grin.
A/N: Yay! It took me a while to get this done and I?m sorry?I?m a member of Procrastinators of America lol. Anyway, I have come up with more ideas for the next chapter so it will be along soon! Oh, and I should probably clear something up?I know that Heero has seemed OOC, not trusting Relena and all, but that?s because he?s walking a tightrope of nerves?he?s not quite sure how relationships with the opposite sex ::giggles at the word:: work. I hope you have enjoyed the story so far!
