Disclaimer: Yet again, I don?t own them. I actually enjoy writing this, though. ^___^ Thanks for reading!!!

The breeze that had hugged her soul with its warmth only moments before mutated into a gust from northern lands. Her eyes, cold and focused, placed barriers on his flesh; he was not to step closer. His locks danced within each other as if entwined in an exotic dance. Through the chaos the wind placed upon them, their eyes remained unwavering, and his weapon still held its valor.

?You wish to kill me, hunter?? her voice calmed the raging winds until all was still. A cricket, unaware of the danger nearby, was the only sound throughout the wood. Swallowed within the depths of the forest, he watched her hair and clothes cease their vibrant movement, and he slowly relinquished his arrow's position. Neither look of puzzlement nor concern for her glided across the strong firm face of his as his weapon nestled into a sheath on his back.

Turning, he dug his heels into the fresh wetness of the Earth and headed deeper into the wood. Who was he to care that a woman had lost her way?

?You?d best return to the village, maiden, less a beat kill you in these woods,? his voice was gruff and edgy. It carried but a few feet before the trees swallowed his words with fervor-- capably listening with wisdom through age. Again she noted their differences. Her voice rang throughout the wood until every creature had gathered by her.

He turned his head to glance at her-- assuming she had taken his advice. His gaze fell only upon the path that had been plowed by his feet. His eyes widened a fraction?for he, in all his glory as a hunter, had never known any creature to disappear without his senses acknowledging him. His eyes narrowed as he readied his bow once more.

She caught it swiftly, moving her hand to cup the underside of the weapon. He had no time to struggle as she broke it with a sweep of her hand. It fell to the floor where it ricocheted beyond her trees' walls.

His lips curled back while from his throat there emitted a wolf?s growl. She, having watched the demise of the weapon with a certain amiable air, casually looked upon him.

?Man,? her eyes narrowed, ?You have trespassed into my home.?

?I know you,? he seethed, ignoring her statement.

She smiled as he stared at her. Was it the wind that moved strands of hair away from her face? Or was it her own power that allowed him to behold a star-shaped mark on her forehead?

?It took you longer than you would have liked,? she closed her eyes smiled.

He dove to the ground for the weapon and readied the blade to be driven into her heart. Once again, she had moved away from him. Once again, her speed far outmatched his own. Once again, she caught his hand with hers from behind.

Her skin melded into his, and in that moment, he knew time had stopped. His eyes were suddenly drawn to hers. They beckoned him. They were drowning him. A burning sensation rubbed itself along his body. His senses rose to heights unknown?yet he could not place anything around him but her eyes.

Her steady pulse, he felt within himself. He would have made protest, but her steady heartbeat was a melody that he had always dreamed he could hear. He was faintly aware of a cold heartbeat followed by a warm one?

Cold?

Warm?

Cold?

Warm?

In a beat that lulled and soothed.

A cloud formed around him as his eyes continued their journey in hers. He could see her for what she truly was now. Her form was in front of him as clear as day?yet she, in her human essence, was still holding him.

The unicorn?

The fog thickened and attacked his lungs. With a few deep breathes, he fell to the floor, asleep.

A steady hand reached to his sleeping form. She moved her hand to caress his ears?she ran her delicate fingertips along the bridge of his nose. When the tip of her hand met his horn, its splendor intensified as it began to grow with a thousand fires.

Just like hers.

?The hunter has become the hunted.?

Oooooh, very interesting twist. This is already getting suspenseful and wyrd, and I can't wait for the next chapter. Once again, I reiterate that your style fits the content very well.

Both of them unicorns... how ironic (and yet so romantic at the same time). ::sigh:: Lovely. :)
