This is Punkie ~AKA: "The Goddess of Sugar"~ And this is my first Furuba fanfic and I garantee that it sux monkey balls! If it does.. I'm really sorry! But I'm just not used to writing fanficz, I usually only write hard core stories but hey, I'm the geek with nothing better to do than make up some unrealistic stories about characters from a well loved anime/manga series.. Well I think I've babbled long enough, this story is kind of depressing and alot of it is based on my own experiences with depression. So if it sux, please tell me and I won't burden ya with my crap anymore! Kisses, ~Punkie

Toru woke up in a daze, she was still lulling about that place that only exists in the space between asleep and awake. Her alarm clock read 4:30 AM, it was becomming more and more difficult to sleep in.
There was always so much to do around the house. She vaguely remembered a pile of laundry just waiting to be pressed, a history exam to study for, breakfast and lunches to prepare, and above all, the unanswered questions that revolved around the two boys she loved most.
Things just hadn't been the same lately, there were long pauses between conversations, and too many akward moments of silence. The comradship that had exsisted between them was quickly dissintegrating.
"Oh well", she thought "time to go back to work", and with that she wallowed off to the kitchen.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun rays stung at Kyo's eyes, desperate to rouse him, of his deep slumber. The boy sat up in bed suddenly, his red hair tumbling over his eys.
"Damn" he muttered sleepily.
Although he couldn't pinpoint what it was that woke him, something seemed to be out of place. His room looked the way it always did, clean with everything in it's rightful place.
It wasn't that he was a particularly anal person, he just didn't spend enough time in his room to make a big mess He scratched his head, then with a shrug stepped outside his door to work out and get breakfast.
It wasn't until he was halfway down the stairs that Kyo noticed how hot the railing felt under his fingers.
That, and the further we went, the more difficult it became to breathe. When he reaced the bottom he got on all fours and crawled to the kitchen door, then ever so slowly reached for the handle.....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Toru paced around the kitchen, determined to get everything finished in time for school. Breakfast was heating on the stove, and that annoying pile of laundry was starting to shrink.
"As long as I keep busy, I can't worry about my own problems", this catch-phrase had become her daily ritual.
Chanting it was the only thing that seemed to keep her sane. "I'm so selfish, why can't I just take care of everyone happily.
It's like I have this tiny voice inside of me that speaks out at the most inconvenient times. A constant reminder that I Toru Honda, am not worthy of any special treatment, I am merely a servent to my friends that I don't even deserve."
When had she fallen into such depression? Toru had always been a bit naive when it came to admitting her dissapointments.
Her mom had always warned her about this kind of attitude towards life.. It had a name, an evil name.. Depression.
"Am I depressed?", Toru thought sadly, and she knew that it was only too true.
Sometimes she wanted to run away, to just leave everything and everyone behind her. Sometimes she just wanted to end it all, the pain, the suffering, maybe it was a good idea.
Before she knew it, Toru was crying. Tears blurred her vision as she attempted to cook breakfast blindly. She didn't even see the kitchen towel, oddly close to the stove burner..

The heatwave had been instant, a billowing force of smoke that had almost knocked Kyo backwards.
"What the..?!", he gasped for air, crawling on his belly in search of the one that started the fire.
For what seemed like hours he wriggled on his belly like an inchworm, still in persue of his prize.
And then, when he was about to give up hope he heard it. The faint moan of pain, the soft voice that could only belong to Toru. That sound was all that it took, Kyo felt his heart leap in his chest. "Just be okay", he chanted softly like a prayer.
Crawling over to the coughs and gasping noises he found her. Hunched in the corner on the ground barely visible from all of the surrounding smoke.
"Toru?", he whispered softly, clutching her arm for dear life.
Panic instilled in his heart, he dragged her by her arms, out of the kitchen and onto the grass outside. It was still early morning, the sky just barely dappled with pale blue clouds. "Toru! Toru are you okay?!", Kyo's voice barely a whisper.
Her eyes opened slowly, it took awhile for her to take in the image in front of her. Kyo was covered from head to toe in soot, his hair a grimy brown instead of the normal copper that it usually was.
His clothes were all torn and tattered, and he had a frantic look of desperation in his eyes.
Toru blinked. "Kyo? Wha.. What happened?."
"Well er... I'm not sure exactly. I came downstairs for my morning workout and the house was.. the house.. Oh my god the house!"
They both spun around to see Shigure and Yuki running out of the house in their pajamas covered in black and coughing. As for the house.. it was flaming.
Shigure looked surprised at the image in front of him. Kyo had Toru pinned, with just enough space between their torsos to keep him from transforming.
Yuki noticed this as well, and was busy glaring daggers at Kyo and making nasty comments under his breath.
"Stupid cat!" Yuki stood his ground, a determined look on his face.
"Did ya say something ya damn rat?!"
"Stupid cat!"
His eyes swelled with a rage so deep, Shigure backed off knowing full and well what was about to happen.
Kyo jumped up, then crouched into a fighting position, his arms outstretched, just daring the rat to take a stab at him.
"You want some of this? Come get it!"
Yuki walked towards Kyo, spat at the ground supporting him and sauntered off.
Kyo ran after him cursing and kicking, his arms flailing about forgetting to look impressive.
One kick was all it took, Kyo was hunched on the ground, an impressive bump forming on his brow.
"Oh no! Yuki, Kyo?" Toru looked from one to the other, with a look that would have caused even Hades to freeze in his tracks.
