AN: I know, you're probably thinking, "You have three other series going on, why are you starting another?" ?I know, I know, but this idea popped up and wouldn't leave me alone. ?This is not AU... this could actually happen. Oh my gosh, what's wrong with me? ?Please tell me what you think, and please review for this series, because I think this one is going to turn out really well.
Disclaimers: I don't own Gundam Wing.
"That's absurd Senator Coniak! ?How can you possibly believe that such a proposal could help sedate the appending friction between the Earth and the Colonies? People will begin to think of this Council as a device being used to manipulate the common man by those with ascribed political indulgence over them!" Relena argued profusely with her fellow associate, clutching the edge of the table as she put more emphasis in her voice and upon her key details of support for her controversy. ?
"Vice Foreign Minister Darlian, I understand what you're trying to say. However, wouldn't it be much simpler if we gave the nations and various colony clusters a guideline when it came to representation among this convention?" Terry Coniak spat back at her conviction so conceited in his analysis, narrowing his eyes as he waited for the retort of his equally devoted opponent. ?The young man, equivalent to the princess's years, held his ground firmly as he continued to irritate her findings in a most crude approach--his muscular build and arms cradled in bulging flesh to be swaddled in further sinew only serving as an antagonist to any who depleted his cause. ?His hair fell in waves, a deepened red as shreds of scarlet tapestry seeming to adorn his brow, it covering all of his eyes from perception except for the inner-sketches--the dark violet of royal blood-line staring at the onlooker as he passed by (intimidation by an alleged sovereignty). ?
"No, no I don't think so at all. ?The people of Earth and space are already wary through the motley of delegates chosen to sovereign this Imperial Embassy, and by restricting their freedoms and rights of individual and/or independent government, their suspicions could only be confirmed. ?How can you think that such action could assuage the hostile feelings developing between the two separate verses?" she rejoined even more passionately to his ignorance in mocking her for the sake of his score, rising from her seat as she spoke--her voice now burdened with heated prevention towards her comrade. ?
"Because Miss Darlian, this way there will be equal representation from each region, rather than a majority from one and hardly what could be considered delegation from the next. ?By enforcing a few, simple regulations in their constitutions, one nation or cluster will not have the needed authority to over-power another." ?He smirked at his reasoning with an individual vanity, thinking he was triumphant in this discussion with the former princess, for he was thoroughly confident that she could find nothing to say in response to his counter. ?
"What are you trying to pull Coniak? ?Don't you see that we would rightfully have the power to restrict their political influence on another region's behalf? Because we are the supreme council, it is our duty to be sure that each country and cluster is fully represented to the best of its resources. ?However, we have the authority to intervene in their process of choosing officials if it's possible that they are endangering other areas besides themselves.
?
"Before we allow them to begin the succession or election process, we will have to set up some type of system that will provide guidelines for the maximum amount of representation one region can have. ?Just for example, we could declare that three senators together have the same eminence as a reigning monarch.
?
"So you see, Sir, we will not be taking away a freedom, but instead only helping them create a unified society that can be intertwined with all other areas of the Earth and space."
"But then, of course, you reali..."
"Quiet, quiet now! ?That's enough! ?We've heard all we need to of your views in accordance to the process of establishing the separate governments of the diverse nations and colony clusters, and we can therefore make a decision regarding this matter... finally putting it to rest," the Council's president, Laural Tamorce, interrupted, slamming his fists on the table as he did so in irritation at their constant debate--the migraine that he had acquired at the start of the meeting now having been heightened ten-fold. ?He was an aristocratic old man, very tall with broad shoulders and a softened look in his eyes that could only reflect the devastation that one sees while in the severe combat of war--a gentle kindness once overshadowed but now too precious to be locked away. ?His hair was a thinning gray, slowly yet apparently fading into a distant shade of white, showing only the wisdom that such a person of time and experience can withhold.
?
"Now, all those who agree with Darlian's approach, please nod your head as I address you around the table." ?The president's glance then began to circle the console, everyone nodding his head in agreement to Relena's recommendation, looking over to her in approval, except for Coniak--the only one opposed to her.
?
"Well," the leader of the convention spoke up again, "it seems that we clearly have the three-fourths majority needed to ratify this endorsement, and therefore this council's word is law!" ?Following the declaration, the man stood, circled around his chair, and appealed the congress from behind his podium (thumbing through papers for a moment, seeming to make sure there was no other business he'd left untouched), and continued, "Well, then this meeting of the Imperial Embassy is therefore adjour..."
"President Tamorce, Sir! ?I have an urgent message for you directly from Marshall Yaquita, and he says it's critical that I give you word of this data while the delegates of the Council are present and still in session," a young man, about the age of twenty-five, gasped as he ran through the doors of the chamber, saluting the leader as he relayed the announcement.
"Well then, come on, what is it Lieutenant Honice... spit it out before you choke on your own breath boy!" Tamorce huffed as he saw the disturbed countenance that graced the arrival of the soldier, unnerved and laden with indecision.
"Yes Sir!" ?The boy then leaned over and began to whisper his information into the man's ear, his eyes searching the room to be sure that it was inaudible by the other members that surrounded the two in conference. ?The president's face hung low, almost unreadable as he soldier spoke, and he sighed with great encumbrance upon his own burden as he dismissed the scout from his presence.
"All right, thank you. Tell the Marshall I wish all the best to him," the tired man said absently as he sank down into his chair at the head the convention, resting his forehead on his knuckles.
"Yes Sir, we'll do what we can to put these seditionists to rest," then giving another salute, the herald left from the chamber. ?
Making sure that the child had made it down the hall as not to be in hearing range, Coniak leaned over in his seat to Tamorce and inquired, "Sir, what was that all about? you look pale. ?Do you need some water or..."
"No, I need nothing," Tamorce replied, cutting off the last part of the Senator's question. ?"Thank you for your concern, but the problem that we face cannot be solved by a mere glass of water."
"What do you mean Sir? ?What are we up against this time?" the king of Nova Scotia, James Calbury, asked impatiently, his nerves tensing as he saw the lines that distinguished the old man before him descend even deeper into his flesh.
"It's just as we feared, but I still had hope that they would desist on their own.
"My fellow world and space leaders," Tamorce bellowed, struggling over to the podium and trying, as best as he could manage at this point, to stand with an unwavering defiance, "it looks as though we have no choice but to pass the Comradery Bill."
"Comradery Bill... what on Earth is that Sir?" Relena questioned, not recalling anything about a proposal called 'Comradery.'
"I'm sorry Foreign Minister, we talked about this recommendation that week when you had the stomach flu, but we decided not to inform you of its contents because we figured it wouldn't develop into any type of significant conflict... and therefore felt that you didn't need this placed upon your duties as well. ?But, I was mistaken, and to pass this bill we need your signature, for it requires military enactment," the president replied, his eyes pleading for her compassion towards his error.
"Well, I understand that since I control all military activity that occurs between Earth and space that it has to have my authenticity before the act can be made official, but I would like to know the events that surround this proposal if you don't mind, Sir."
"Of course not Minister; it's your right to know what this is all about," Tamorce said kindly, clearing his throat so that he may explain the current situation. ?"A few months ago, we were informed of rebel activity around the distant colonies, but since most of the incidents were minor and isolated, we felt that at the time it was nothing to be concerned about. ?However, we've been receiving word of even more of these attacks on various areas, now the violence spreading to the Earth, and we feel that it's about time to take action against these fomenters before they can cause anymore potential harm."
"Do you have identification as to who any of the suspects are?" Relena questioned, unsure whether or not she wanted the answer.
"Yes Miss Darlian, we do. ?After incessant exploration and eye-witness accounts, we have been able to identify these rousers as the five former Gundam pilots."
"The Gundams?"
Chapter 2
"I... I don't understand. What do you mean they're the seditionists?" Relena questioned amidst her blaze of mistrust to be fondled amongst such sheets of her gentle influence, edging back into her chair with widened eyes adorning her countenance to to display her shock.
??
"He means what he said Miss Darlian," Coniak replied with a depraved smile spreading across his face, tallying such lavish deceit to his already mock demeanor towards her. "They've been a threat to the Earth and colonies for much too long now, and it's about time we give them their recompense for that vile nature."
"How dare you rely on such misconstrued rumors about them!" Relena spat to her fellow delegate in piercing rage, rising up from her seat and slamming her fists on the oaken panel out of that same fury. "They've saved the Earth Sphere and the colonies numerous times, and I think it's only fair that we give them the opportunity to explain this supposedly 'vile nature' as you so casually put it," she continued to fire back, turning her attention to Senator Coniak at the last part of her declaration.
??
Raising his hand to cease this exchange of venom, Tamorce, with much effort and strife out if his weary age, arose from his recline and demanded in compulsion, "Stop this useless prattle at once. This is no time to earn hostile sentiments with each other. We have no choice but to bond together during this time and find a peaceful yet efficient solution to the problem at hand."
?
"I understand that Sir," Relena assured him as her grip upon the table slackened and a flush of released passion perfumed her cheeks, "but I still feel that your resolution to use military enactment to bring them to justice is too harsh a step to take at such an early stage."
"Your cries do not fall upon deaf and impassive ears, my Dear, I assure you. But you must realize how dire a situation their threats impose upon the peace you so drudgingly created," the old man reasoned, placing a consoling hand on her shoulder to reaffirm his sincerity on the matter.
??
"The peace that I created, Sir? If I'm not mistaken, the Gundam pilots had just as much to do with this millennium of peace as I did, most likely more. Therefore, it's only right that we show them tolerance if they, for some incomprehensible reason, feel they need to obliterate this peace they so willingly risked their lives and sacrificed their hearts for.
"Besides," Relena whispered, a coy smile tugging at the edges of her even warm yet moist lips, "you owe me for not letting me in on this problem sooner. The least you can do is allow my wishes to pass in this council."
??
Letting free from his chest a defeated sigh, the man collapsed back into his chair, holding his head in his hands and massaging his temples out of both torn allegiance and inevitable grief--trying considerably to make a decision that will appease and benefit the fragile peace surrounding the so ginger coalition.
??
"Don't let the Minister's words and pretty speeches intimidate you, Sir!" the little upstart challenged his superior out of vengeance for his earlier loss by the sweet princess. "You are the leader of this council, not her, and so you can't let her puppy-dog eyes and lustful demeanor steal you off of the main road of peace!"
"Enough!" the president bellowed to the Senator, resting his head deep into his knuckle, trying to find peace with his thoughts and come to a consensus with his intuition and his rationale.
??
"Minister," Tamorce addressed Relena, not in the same brash tone as he used in the case of her impatient rival, "because of my mistaken judgment not to fill you in on this, I guess, so disputable issue, I will leave you with this to keep in mind: Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Rebaba Winner, Wufei Chang, and Zechs Merquise a.k.a. Milliardo Peacecraft are to be thought of and treated as fugitives. They have violated the peace so many have sacrificed their lives for, and I will not let these troubled souls die in vain.
??
"So, here is my proposition: you do not have to sign that military declaration against them, but realize that they are still considered outstanding. Through this, the more time you waste in refusing to sign that document, the more innocent civilians will be killed on these pilots' rampage, and therefore, indirectly, you will be signing the death warrant of many forsaken children from the war.
??
"What's more, you seem to have a rather intimate connection between these six young men, and that's something that disturbs me greatly, Relena," he relayed sternly to her concentration, perceptive that he's getting her full notice and testing her conscience by using her first name with such disgrace in his rebuke. "We can't afford to house someone in this embassy who reeks of betrayal, Child, and if I find that you have any contact with these men other than for the sake of making peace, then I will have no other choice than to seek penalty for this perfidy. Is that clear, Young Lady?"
"Crystal..."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*Oh dear God... what am I going to do?* Relena asked herself in despondent gaze, covering her face with her hands and trying to keep the tears that so wanted to lick the cream in blend of rose lush of her cheek to satisfy their need in famine.
??
"Rough day, eh Miss Relena," Coniak's voice echoed throughout the desolate chamber, his silhouette hidden by the dusk of the curtains so sheltered from the moonlight's resplendent embrace to keep the night's shadowed children in cold relief.
"What do you want Terry... you've helped to make my day hell!" she sneered at his kindness in disgust, not deceived at all by his solemn features and almost genuine-traced intention to offer her some kind of solace on the earlier matter--his joy and salvation only appearing in others' damnation of themselves.
??
Shaking his head at her inveighs and emancipating a soft chuckle from his breath, the young man continued, "Such nasty words to come from you, oh Pacifistic Princess," mocking her purposely in her dejection. "When someone offers you compassion, it is a wise person who feasts upon it."
"I would scarcely call the deception you lay before me compassion, Terry," she rejoined his caveat, wiping the lone tear that graced her beautiful lace out of her triumph. "Besides," she smiled, mischievous in her now assured victory against his wit, "I was taught never to trust a man when I'm alone."
His before smirk turning back to a purse of anger and heated frustration in her defiance and rebellious nature to his honor, he approached her, saying, "One day you'll regret that high and mighty attitude of yours towards me, Dear Princess, and then you'll be up the creek without a paddle."
"You're right," Relena agreed with him confidently, a subtle giggle dancing across her lips, "because by the redness of your face, I'm guessing you'll have enough hot air to float down that creek, huh?"
"Perhaps," said the vicious male in his anger, now finding calm and an inner tranquility in his rebuttal to her former remark, "but can you say the same thing about you precious soldier when you see him hung like the dog that he is by the jury's verdict... once I convict him?"
A gasp set free from her breast at the mention of Heero and he somehow knowing the princess and her beloved soldier's... interesting bond to each other's essences, Coniak let go a taunting chuckle and left her before she could get a word in edge wise to his oh so crafty challenge.
Upon hearing the door shut with its thunderous echo, Relena turned on her heels and grasped the table out of weakness, muttering to the stars that so painfully wept for her indignation, "Heero..."
