Maybe it was the lighting of the hallway--- or the way the sun seemed shimmered upon the light of the woman?s eyes in front of her, but Kagome couldn?t help but recognize something. A something that eluded her mind as she desperately tried to put the name to the face that held those particular eyes.
But her mind was blank, and the itchy feeling that traveled along her skin--- telling her that she had seen or met this person before--- but alas she would not know this hour.
Instead, the thoughts turned distant as the recollection of the rude tone the woman had used came back to fore front of her brain--- a behavior in which Kagome was usually very ready to ignore as she believed in treating those as how one should hope to be treated in return.
Yet, an ire rose in her that seemed to take over all normal functioning in this type of situation--- tightening her grip upon the luggage she had recently set down, she narrowed her eyes at the woman and she took a slow step forward as if in challenge.
The woman in question noticing the stance of the new visitor took an unsteady step back before quickly remembering that as ?she? was not one to be treated as such, and instead took two steps forward evening the both of them.
Kagome having not expected such a reaction, but was far too gone to notice, sneered at the woman in way that belied the fact that she did indeed not like this particular servant whomever she may be. To treat her as such, and her being a guest--- although the likelihood of the woman knowing was slimmer to none.
Yet, she could the warm puffs of air that blew across her nose and along the sides of her cheeks as the two of them stood eye to eye lost in staring contest awaiting the other to move--- and therefore allotting the winner of this here match.
To both their disappointments neither of them were destined to win, as an elder woman with striking gray hair and an eye patch over her right eye interrupted the two with a soft cough. The both of them---ironically, lost their concentration as they turned to see who would dare come between such an important battle of will power.
Kagome--- once again at wonder at the strange sights of females she was seeing about in the small house stood a bit transfixed at the woman. Ignoring the previous observations of the eye patch, she took in the simple but elegant ware of the woman?s miko robes that covered the elder woman.
It was then--- tuning into her powers, she felt the woman?s power, although not very strong, they were aged with the wisdom of knowledge. The woman, would not be someone she would like to cross, no matter how small her power was to her own. It was only a matter of seconds, but it finally hit Kagome that this must be Kaede--- owner of the house that WA arranged for her stay.
Smiling much kinder as the irritation at the interruption all but left her, she greeted the woman with a formal bow as she introduced herself, ?You must be Kaede. I am Kagome and it is a pleasure to meet you--- I expect all my reservations are in order??
?Ah, yes. I hadn?t expected you until later this night. But all the same, your room is ready.?
Kaede smiled at her with warmth that was very much the opposite of the glare she sent over her shoulder towards the odd looking woman.
Obviously it wasn?t the first time the woman had been looked upon that way as she snorted with a roll of her eyes before turning to pick up her things.

Inuyasha was beside himself at the challenge insinuated by the girl?s stance as her eyes seemed to attempt to bore holes through his head. After the initial shock, and his somewhat pathetic step away from the girl, (not that he was afraid mind you, if anything she was weaker than Shippo) he in turn moved to push his face in her line of vision starting the age old war of a staring contest.
But as the staring contest ensued--- Inuyasha was having hard time concentrating on the reason for why the challenge had been accepted in the first place. He couldn?t help but stare into eyes the clearest shade of blue he had ever seen--- something that very much a rare in any native Japanese girls. At first he thought them contacts, but as he continued to search her eyes he could see no sign of the modern device that allowed one to change their eyes colors and allowed them to see without the annoyance of glasses.
However--- much to his delight that he got to stare into the beautiful shade of blue, although he would never admit it aloud and hardly even to himself, the loud coughing of a certain annoying older woman seemed to shatter whatever spell had overcome him.
He was only mildly surprised to see Kaede--- who instantly ignored him as she peered over the girl now standing a little past the threshold of the door. The two females seemed to size the other up before the girl greeted Kaede in a formal manner.
?You must be Kaede. I am Kagome and it is a pleasure to meet you--- I expect all my reservations are in order??
Kaede--- not missing a beat, replied easily to the girls greetings, ?Ah, yes. I hadn?t expected you until later this night. But all the same, your room is ready.?
And then--- if possible, a miracle occurred as for the first time in years Kaede smiled. Well, he shouldn?t have been so surprised, but in all his life Kaede was never one to smile at him (which wasn?t such a shocker anyways, but he tends to think himself a lot more pleasant than how others might describe him.)
Then to his not so great surprise, she then turned to glare at him--- as if he had done something wrong. He in return gave her his usual answers to such a look and let out a soft snort before rolling his eyes.
It was only as an after thought, as Kaede was again turned to the visitor that she waved absentmindedly at him to grab the girl?s (Kagome wasn?t it?) bags take them up to the last room on the second floor.
In answer, he grabbed the bags a bit roughly before taking up to the stairs and throwing them rather without care into the room as he easily came to the room within a matter of seconds.

It was an odd feeling--- as if cotton surrounded her entire being, drowning her senses. Yet, as far as she could tell she could hear the sounds of the birds chirping, the feel of hard wood pressed against her palm, the taste of the ramen in her mouth, and so on. But she couldn?t help but feel as if something was off and the reason of it lay in both Kaede and her obnoxious worker.
?What?re you looking at,? the question was tossed at her from the odd woman. For some reason, the patience she was renowned for was just another page in history, her ire rising.
?If I didn?t know any better, I?d say you?d make a good case against the cigarettes companies around here, don?t you??
Alright her comebacks were a bit--- lame, but the woman had a thing for throwing her off guard when she least expected it. She?d have to work on her concentration a bit more if she was going to stay one step ahead of this person.
But as she perused her senses, she realized with a start that it was her miko powers that had dimmed, and no more than five minutes from the moment she. stepped. in. here.
How odd.
Turning a quick glance to the worker, her eyes slid quickly to the miko, Kaede--- her mouth opening and then hanging from the quick gesture of Kaede?s hand.
?You have noticed the difference I see. You are much stronger then you appear Kagome,? the sentence, drifted across pale cracked lips--- the voice somewhat harsher then she had first perceived. She sounded much older, although she wondered how she could be any older than she already appeared, ?it is nothing you should be worried about, it is only to hide your power from being sensed, it may dull your senses for awhile but they should be just as good in a few hours. Would you like some tea??
Absentmindedly she reached for the flowered tea pot to pour herself a cup, the warm fragrance surrounding her with a sense of comfort, ?How is it you are able to such a spell, when I first came in I sensed very l-?
?Little power from me. You?ll be amazed what little power can be used to manipulate even the highest of arts,? her aged hand then lifted to pour herself a cup of tea, her voice continuing on, ?But we can discuss that later; you haven?t been sent her for training, although I?m happy enough to give you a few lessons while you?re here. Now I haven?t been given all the details, but what I do know is that the demon you seek is somewhere in these parts and I?m certain I can point you to a few places he may be hiding, yes??
Kagome, happy for once with her organization, gleamed at the older woman. Maybe she?d ask for a couple of vacation days and spend a little more time here after the mission was complete, ?That would be fantastic. You see, I?m looking for this demon by the name of Inuyasha and-?
The words cut off as a loud crash from the kitchen door broke through their conversation.
?Shit.?

Authors Note: Sorry this is a bit short. You know, I was writing a completely different chapter, until I realized that I had already wrote the majority of it some time ago. Luckily I didn?t get too far into it, not that it was too far off from how I wanted to lead into it. Anyways, thanks for all your guys patience. Hopefully updating this and A Question of Loyalty means I?m back into my writing mood.
