Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha at all. I wrote this fic because Sphinx bullied me. I'm kidding. =) I'm just a poor, struggling college student, so please don't sue me, unless you really want to own my Organic Chemistry textbook as payment. Thanks =)
Warning: This is my first fic, so please review at your will. Also, if you catch any grammatical errors, let me know via PM or email (jingrbread@yahoo.com). Or if you want to chat, I'm open to that. =) With that done, enjoy!
I forgot one more thing--- thanks to my beta reader Danielle. =D She inspired this fic, so this is for her!
Chapter 1- Better Off with Bricks
?SIT!?
BAM! went Inuyasha as he promptly plummeted into the ground. ?I HATE when you do that!? the half-demon yelled angrily, annoyance written into each crease of his face.
?You just don?t get it, do you, Inuyasha?!? exploded Kagome, with the same amount of rage that Inuyasha had displayed.
?Feh!?
?That?s it! I?m going home!?
?Fine! See if I care! Why don?t you leave already!??
?HUMPH!? Kagome sniffed, crossing her arms. Digging her heel into the ground, she turned around and stalked off. After taking a few stomps, she suddenly stopped.
Inuyasha, hearing the halt of footsteps, smirked. He knew Kagome was going to turn around and apologize. Keeping his back turned to her, Inuyasha impatiently tapped his foot, waiting for Kagome to bed his forgiveness.
Calling over her shoulder, the girl asked in a syrupy drenched voice, ?Oh yeah?one more thing, Inuyasha??
?What, bitch?? he smugly replied.
?SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT!!!!?
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I swear, Kagome thought, Inuyasha can be so aggravating! He really doesn?t get it, does he? Stupid boys. Why are boys so dense?!
Huffing and puffing, Kagome angrily stomped her way to the well. As she reached her destination, she paused to reflect the events that had made her so angry, once again, at Inuyasha.
***flashback***
?Aughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!?
?KAGOME!? screamed Inuyasha.
?Go to her, Inuyasha! Sango and I will take care of this demon!? Miroku ordered.
?Right!? Weaving through the throng of incoming fire, Inuyasha raced with lightening speed. Jumping in front of Kagome, the half-demon brandished the Tetsaiga and delivered a fatal blow to the demon about to attack to Kagome.
?Inu...ya....sha....? Kagome whispered in shakily breaths. ?Thank....you...?
?Stay over there! We?ll fight off these demons!? commanded Inuyasha.
Nodding her consent, Kagome spotted some movement creeping towards them. ?Inuyasha, watch out!? she warned. She had noticed another demon, stealthily skulking towards Inuyasha. At her warning, the demon suddenly leapt into the air and landed its fangs into Inuyasha?s shoulder.
?Shit!? howled Inuyasha, in pain from the sudden attack. Using his claws, Inuyasha swiped the demon in the face, slicing it in half. Grimacing in pain, the wounded half-demon protectively grasped his shoulder and peeked at Sango and Miroku?s progress with the last enemy. With his staff, Miroku temporarily blinded the demon, while Sango delivered the finishing blow with her boomerang.
The fight over, Kagome ran over to Inuyasha to observe the severity of his injury. Although the demon itself was small, it had lodged its teeth into Inuyasha?s shoulder, and they remained firmly set. Kagome reached inside her knapsack for some bandages, but to her dismay, she realized she had used up the last of her medical supplies the night before. Swearing under her breath, Kagome racked her brain, thinking of other materials she could use. Absentmindedly, she began tapping her elbow, when she looked down at the material she was fingering. Of course, she thought; I should use my sleeve. It?s probably the most sanitary material available. Tearing off some cloth from her shirt sleeve, Kagome prepared to make a tourniquet for Inuyasha.
?Give me your arm, Inuyasha.?
?Why the hell for? The wound can?t be bandaged until these damn teeth get pulled out first. Don?t tell me you have some other sort of dumb ?medicine? you have in your own era.? Inuyasha suspiciously eyed the cloth.
?It?s not dumb! It will stop the bleeding, as well as the pain, so when we arrive at a village, the wound can be properly treated!? Kagome argued.
?Feh! I wouldn?t have this wound to begin with, if you hadn?t been so careless and left yourself in the open like that!?
?What?! Are you blaming your injury on ME??
?Well, you were standing there, all defenseless. You could have least stayed in a safer area or used one of your arrows!?
?There was no safe area to stand around in! And you fully know why I didn?t attempt to use my bow and arrow. There was no way I could have used, unless I wanted to cause further damage to myself!?
?It?s your fault anyway!?
?MY FAULT?! How can I be responsible for something I have no control over?!?
?Hmph.?
?Ooooo! You make me so angry Inuyasha!? Her face flushed, Kagome?s permeating anger was causing her body to shake with uncontrollable rage. In the midst of the verbal argument between Kagome and Inuyasha, Sango and Miroku had walked over to assess Inuyasha?s injury and to ascertain Kagome?s condition. As usual, demon slayer and monk found the two, arguing over what appeared to be another moot point of blame. Sighing resignedly, they both wearily stood, simultaneously shaking their heads at Inuyasha?s predictable, inevitable stupidity.
?Inuyasha, just apologize to Kagome. Allow her to bandage you. That way, we can all move on and have your injury looked at much faster.? Miroku said in exasperation. Really, Inuyasha. You?re an incredible fighter, able to decipher the weaknesses of each enemy we face, but when it comes to women, Kagome especially, you?re absolutely clueless, Miroku mused.
?I am not going to apologize! Why in the hell should I apologize? She?s not the one who has fangs stuck in her shoulder! She?s the one who should apologize to me!? Inuyasha spouted angrily.
Fed up with Inuyasha, Kagome threw the cloth onto the ground. Casting a wicked grimace, ?Oh, In-u-ya-sha!!!!!!!!!? Kagome sang with sarcasm. ?SIT!?
***end flashback***
Furiously shaking her head, Kagome berated herself for dragging up the past event into her mind. What else do you expect, Kagome? she told herself. This happens every time: a battle occurs; I do ?something? that upsets Inuyasha; he gets mad at me, says something harsh; I get mad back; he expects an apology from me; I yell ?sit!?; and then, I leave to go home to my era. Why does this always happen? I am getting really sick and tired of this continual pattern. Maybe, he really doesn?t get it at all. He is a boy, after all. Boys never understand. It?s like talking to a brick wall! Although, I think the brick wall understands more than boys do! What am I talking about? Of course, the brick wall gets it! If only the brick wall could lend some of its wisdom to Inuyasha?s thick head, maybe, we wouldn?t fight all the time... Breathe, Kagome, breathe. Closing her eyes, Kagome listened to her own advice, and slowly inhaled and exhaled three times. I really need to calm down. This is how Inuyasha acts. I need to keep reminding myself of that. I?ll just go back for a few days. Get some more medicine and bandages, catch up with school work, and spend some time with my family. Rest and relaxation: it?s what I need right now.
With her mindset, Kagome took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. Placing her hands upon the edge of the well, she steadied herself and prepared to swing her leg over the well. She was about to swing, when her right arm suddenly gave out. Wincing in pain, Kagome instinctively massaged her right shoulder. That?s another thing! Kagome started to rile herself up again. How dare Inuyasha accuse me of not helping?! He knows my shoulder still aches from the battle last night, when a demon clipped it, before I was able to knock it off with my bow. AUGH! And I thought Inuyasha had really changed, especially that night... Angrily, Kagome violently shook her head to empty her mind of any thoughts of that night and him. Determination in her eyes, Kagome readied herself to jump into the well. On the count of three, Kagome prepared herself. 1...2....WHOOSH! Before the last count, Kagome was knocked down by an unexpected wind coming from the east. Blinking her eyes from the confusion of the sudden gust, Kagome found herself, staring into a pair of crystal clear blue eyes. ?Kouga...?? she asked in a daze.
?Oh, sorry, Kagome. Didn?t mean to frighten you with my incredible power! Guess you?re not used to that dog-face making such a grand entrance as me!? Kouga arrogantly proclaimed. Puffing out his chest, the wolf demon gallantly grasped Kagome?s hand into his own and attempted to pull her up from the ground. Kagome tried to hide her injury, but she yelped in pain from Kouga?s aggression. ?What?s wrong, Kagome?? Kouga asked worriedly.
?It?s my shoulder? I strained it yesterday.? Kagome responded.
?Did that dog-face give you that injury? I?ll kill him!? Kouga swore vehemently. He launched into a battle stance, preparing to take off to uphold his vow.
?Nonononono!? Kagome rattled off hurriedly, trying to calm down Kouga. ?I got injured when trying to fight off this demon. It snuck up on me and attacked me before I was able to hit it with my bow.?
?Hah?that dumb Inuyasha couldn?t protect you, huh? I?ll deal with him later. To have him hurt you?he?ll pay. I don?t know why you waste your time with that mutt. Wouldn?t you rather be my mate than travel alongside that thing??
?Um...? Flustered, Kagome let her eyes wander into the distant.
?You can answer me later. Right now, I need you to come with me. Here we go!? With that, Kouga effortlessly lifted Kagome into his arms, taking care not to put any pressure on her shoulder. Kagome began to protest Kouga?s action, but when she laid her hand upon his chest to fend off his kind, though not necessary, action, she felt the toned muscle and decided it would be useless to fight. Besides, she doubted Kouga would listen as he seemed very adamant about taking her to wherever he had in mind. Worriedly, Kagome began to wonder where he was going to take her. She began to tense up and stiffen her entire body, but she relaxed a bit when Kouga whispered into her ear, ?Don?t worry, Kagome. I?m not going to do anything against your will.? Knowing Kouga?s honor was his word, Kagome settled herself more comfortably in his muscular arms. She felt Kouga?s arms envelop her, bringing her closer to his well-defined chest. Yawning, Kagome closed her eyes, exhausted from the day?s events. Kouga, looking down upon the sleeping girl, grinned at her beauty and sped off into the east.
