Heard it? Seen it? know of it!!

If you have please come and discuss it with me!!! Don't think it is just amazing!!!

For those of you who don't know it is about this Girl name Utena who wants to be a Prince!!! She wants to be a prince because when she was young her parents died and she, bearing so much saddness, trapped herself in a coffin and hid away from the world that cause her so much pain.
"Why do people want to live when there is so much pain in the world?" asked Utena.
Then a prince came along and freed her from that coffin embracing in a rose sented embrace. He showed her another young girl who was bind by the swords of hate that torture her. "Those that can die are lucky, for they can escape the pain. But she has eternal suffering for she can never die. And... it is only a prince who can save her."
"Why don't you help her?" asked Utena. "Your a prince! Why don't you save her."
The prince does not say anything but instead bends now to the little girl who looks up to him with clear eyes.
Utena gets up definantly "I will save her. I will find her and help her, and free her from her coffin."
"How can you?" ask the prince, "you are a girl, soon to become a lady, how can you be a prince."
Utena looks back at the little girl "I will be a prince! I will help her." She said with renew determination.
"If you can keep that noble spirit maybe you will" said the prince, "and to remind you of this day i will give you this rose seal, a ring to forever remind you of your promise and that would one day lead you to her and me."

Now if this was an enagement ring, then all was good and well but utena decided to become a prince to help the little Girl for she was so inspired by the prince that saved her. But was this really a good idea...?

I always loved this anime!! For Utena (my icon) is both prince and princess, and why can't people be both!!

It questions the essence of her identity and our right to be true to ourselves. I remeber it once was said "All girls are princesses, it is our right!" and the Sikh faith have Kaur in all girls names which means princess. But it is also our right to be a prince as well. I think what i love most about this fic is that it took adolences, fairy tales, present day time and noble qualties and done the impossible - they made a fic that everyone across the world can relate to.

Afterall, isn't the most difficult thing in the world is to know ourselves and be comfortable with who we are and who we are not. Our beliefs are always question, but if we believe in ourself we can always sucdeed.

I have always absolutely adored this anime!!! Though the manga is different (and which i perfer to a certain extent) I cannot but feel that this was such an excellent production of the nature of humankind.

We always try to put people in boxes, catergories, races, nationality etc. yet this anime totally disregards all of that and instead pushes the boundaries!!!

Oh, i just noticed that you only told utena story, what about anthy (my icon)? Maybe it would been too long, or maybe you don't know it, however there are two versions of the event and here is the one i believe is true!!!

The True Story of Dios, Anthy, Utena and?Eternality

Once upon a time, there was a little princess who was very sad, for her mother and father had died...but when they held the services for the girl's parents, they could not find her. Passing by the church were two young boys who were coming home from kendo practice. They were stopped by a man in a suit who asked them if they had seen the girl. When they replied no, he said that a girl had lost her parents that day, and to tell him if they saw her.

Acting on instinct, perhaps, they entered the church to see if they could find anything. They were surprised to see there were three coffins in the church. Walking up to them, Touga listened to the coffins, and hearing something opened the one furthest to the right. Saionji shouted at him to stop what he was doing, he couldn't believe Touga would be so horrible as to open a dead person's coffin, but as the casket opened, he didn't see a corpse, but a young girl crying inside of it.
This was the girl whose parents had been killed. She was curled up on a bed of roses the color of her hair Nothing is eternal, she claimed. Everything will die, so why do we bother living. I will never come out of this coffin as long as I live.

Something Eternal? Touga asks her as he feels her hair run through his fingers. We can't just leave her there, Touga. Saionji tells him. We should tell somebody! Touga ignores his friend's pleas, silently leaving the church.

Later that night perhaps, a shadowed figure approaches the coffin. He is dressed in all white with a cape at his shoulders. His skin is dark and he carries the caste mark of an Indian prince. He looks at the girl as if he is asking her to come with him. She raises her head and looks at the unusual man before her. "What are you doing there?" he asks. "Nothing," is her reply. "Are you the Grim Reaper?" she asks timidly. "No, I do not bring death," he states. "You're pretty" she says as she looks at him as he stands in a shaft of light. As he begins to walk away, she stands and folows in his shadow.

The prince leads her to a chasm bridged by a narrow walkway leading to a platform. They stare accross, transfixed by the figure suspended in the center of the weird platform

"Who is that?" Utena asks him. "A Witch" he says. "A Witch?" "The Rose Bride," he says.

"The 'Rose Bride'?" she asks him. "Those who can die are lucky. She cannot die, she can just go on suffering." he responds sadly. "Why?" Utena inquires. "It is her punishment for stealing a prince from all the women of the world...that which could not be told until now:

'The Tale of the Rose',"

"Anthy...Anthy..." Dios says weakly. "I'm right here," she replies.
Outside, the cries of the gathering crowd are heard. "Prince...we beg you...please save us...Prince, we know you're here, come and fight for us! Come and save our daughters, all of our daughters need you!"

You musn't move anymore! Anthy cries. "But I must go to them" Dios responds. "But you'll die, please don't fight anymore..." she pleads, laying a hand on his chest. He slumps back onto the straw as if asleep.Looking at him tenderly, she walks to the door and opens it. "Who are you?" the crowd asks. [/color]"Dios is gone. He is mine and mine alone," she states, glaring at the crowd.

How dreadful! one exclaims. "Infernal witch!" the crowd cries. They surround her swiftly, piercing her with their million swords fueled by hate as she screamed in agony.
"She sacrificed herself to save her beloved prince, even though she was the only one who truly loved the prince, but what's more, the prince who loved her was no longer the prince, but he became 'Ends of the World'," "This is..." Utena begins.
"And her suffering was all that remained," Dios concludes. Utena runs towards Anthy and gets knocked back with a wall of force and she cries out. She looks up at the prince with tears in her eyes."Hey, save her! It's too cruel! Save her...save her..." Utena pleads. "She can no longer be saved." he states simply.

"The only one who can save her is a prince she believes in," Dios continues. "You're a prince, right?" Utena implores. "I can't become her prince." he says. "Why not?" she asks. He does not respond to this, but bends down and kisses her eyelids.

As he begins to rise, he says, "You're a gentle child, thank you for your tears," Utena ignores this. "Then I will become a prince!" she shouts. "I'll become her prince and save her!"
"If you can keep that nobility even when you grow up, then you may indeed be able to save her from her suffering. But you will surely forget all about this night. and even if you do remember, you're a girl. You will soon be a lady,"he says as he giving her a rose seal ring.

I will! I'll become a prince no matter what! she shouts, looking with a frightened, yet fierce look at the rose signet on her hand. "Then this ring will surely lead you here again. Dios responds. She looks deeply into the hellish coffin of her princess and gives a nod. The piercing swords creak and anthy turns her pain filled green eyes to meet with Utena's, silently begging for help.

The next day, the girl came out of the coffin. Touga and Saionji watch as the funeral ends and the mourners depart the church. "You did something to that girl!" Saionji accuses. Touga simply ignores his friend, smiling secretly to himself as he watches the young girl who was so vehement about never leaving the coffin step out into the sunlight.

Thats a rap folks!!! I hoped this helped!!! and what might help even more is that Goldberry done a fic based on this anime called "Eternity in his hand" Look it up, it might help!!!

I been told the series is better than the movie because it reveals more about the characters and themes etc. But is it true that the storylines were very deifferent??? I been told Touga became Utena's prince but died ( or was dead all along)??

If you got some answers post them please??

Ugh, I need to get this series. The movie is the only anime based thing in my town's rental store, abd man, was I confused when I first watched it (I'd never heard of Utena before).

I've read Goldberry's 1xR "Eternity" so I definitely need to see this one because her fic entranced me so much.

Utena is very good. =) I saw the first season when a friend came down to visit. Of course, wanting to know more, I spoiled myself and lookd up what happens. =D (Let me tell ya-- I had NO idea what happened would happen in the end!) Seems so trivial and lighthearted and silly in the beginning- but, wow. =) I think my favorite lines from the movie is the first season when the Student Council introduces itself--- the world is an egg, and like a chick, the world must break its shell before it dies? Something along those lines. =) Very interesting-- and IHMO hilarious-- metaphor. ;D

Is this true? I want to know. And which one did this happen, the movie or anime? And what about the manga? What happens there? Spoil it for me, 'cause I already looked it up long ago (I got the first season, but stopped afterwards since I spoiled it for myself). You can PM me if you don't want ppl to read teh spoilers.

Of course, I'm not saying it is bad. Utena is really good. Chiho Saito is really good. Even the music is really good. I just lost interest after I spoiled it for myself. NOT to say that I don't have a fave couple in that series, which I do. But I won't tell.
