Chapter 6
?It wasn?t what they did, more like what they didn?t do. Eight years ago, Baron Milliardo Peacecraft was accused of treason by the Earl of Gloucester, Trieze Kushrenada. The Earl was a powerful man and easily manipulated the weak King Charles into believing him. But that was not so. Peacecraft actually came upon a letter set to Kushrenada from the Spanish monarch when his fleets had captured the Spanish ship carrying it secretly. The letter revealed information that would condemn the Earl to death, should the king know. But Kushrenada acted faster, it seemed he paid a Spaniard to be his ?prisoner?, and the man then lied to the king by saying that Baron Peacecraft was working for the Spanish crown. Our Lord Yuy was great friends with the Baron, and tried to help him by hiding him here in Sanq castle. Lord Yuy praised Baron Peacecraft for his bravery and vowed that he would do all that he could to help him and bring down Kushrenada. But somehow, someone leaked the information about Milliardo Peacecraft?s whereabouts. And Kushrenada summoned his forces and attacked this little place. His troops killed the entire Yuy family. No one survived that blast, not even the servants.? Her voice was starting to crack a little, and behind the blindfold tears began to form until she closed them.
'Not even the boy i thought I thought I loved' she silently added. Thinking of those events brought back a wave of grief and regret she had suppressed until now.
"With his finaly breath, Lord Yuy placed a curse upon us all and sent us to eternal damnation." she fianlly said.
?Didn?t the loyal villagers take to their duties and fought along with the Lord?? The Dragon?s voice held no trace of pity, but a silent loathing.
?No, they didn?t?
?Well no wonder he cursed them all.? He replied coldly.
?You don?t understand. They all would?ve died. They were so very afraid. Kushrenada was known for his ruthless and savagery on the battlefield. Everyone knew why his enemies called him the Butcher.?
?So the people huddled in the little homes, while their Lord and family were massacred.? His voice was sneering with contempt.
?They believed that Kushrenada would spare the family if they did not interfere.? She said.
?And did he? he asked with not one trace of any emotion.
She made no reply so he continued on.
? The villagers weren?t killed, raped, or had their crops burn to the ground. But what little money they had was all confiscated in the name of the Crown. Everything they held dear was outlawed, no weapons, no celebrations, nothing. And those who were young and strong enough fled this godforsaken place in search of their own fortunes elsewhere. And those who remained lived the last eight years in fear. Looking over their shoulders and waiting for the doom they had been cursed with, a black angel of vengeance that would swoop from the sky to destroy them all.?
Her words were almost inaudible, ?how do you know this??
He chuckled. ?Perhaps I am that angel. Or perhaps I am a mere opportunistic bastard who overheard a conversation concerning this land and about the one thousand pounds someone took for the information. And perhaps I even overheard that the badge of the Yuy clan was a fire-breathing dragon.?
?Perhaps you did.?
?Yes, well you?ll never know, will you?? he simply said.
?And I don?t want to, which is why I demand you let me go.?
?Ah, so we?re back to that bit. As I told you, I have no intention of letting you go?. ?Ever? he silently added.
?What of my family, they need me.? She knew that he could never be moved by her words. ?What if I promised I wouldn?t expose your little charade??
?You would be lying?, he murmured.
She was surprised by the sweet shock of his fingers cupping her cheek.
?Couldn?t you at least try to pretend to believe me? I can be very convincing.? She whispered.
?I?m sure you would be?, his voice felt like a lover?s caress against her skin. ?But I haven?t trusted anyone for a long time, and I would be a fool to start with you.? He drew away, the clipped formality returning to his voice. ? If you promise to not hurt Duo again, I will send him up with some more breakfast. Will you be requiring anything else during your stay.?
?If this was how he wanted to play, they I will not make this easy on him? she planned. Gathering her pride and courage, she stood up head held high like a regal princess and stated,
?Yes, there is much that I shall need. First I suggest you double your demands for food, I like to overindulge a little. If I am to remain here, I want to be fully satisfied.?
He seemed to have something stuck in his throat for his reply came out almost choked, ?It would be my pleasure and privilege.?
?And surely you cannot expect me to spend the remainder of my time here garbed in this-this rag.? He didn?t have to know that the silken sheets felt like heaven against her skin compared to the scratchy wool of her usual garment.
?Of course not, feel free to remove it anytime you like.?
?And I shall need some sort of amusement to fill my time here. I prefer books over the tediousness of needlework. I shall need a variety of literature to stimulate my mind.? She continued on.
?Is there anything else you would like, Miss Darlian? I could certainly arrange a musical entertainment, perhaps a sting quartet.?
? I don?t believe I shall need anything more? she waited till she heard the panel door open then spitefully added, ?Yet?.
She then sank majestically to the throne-like bed, hoping to maintain her regal dignity. Which might have been possible, had she not miscalculated her distance from the bed and instead plopped on the chocolate covered floor.
Her captor?s hearty laughter poured through the room.
Relena furiously yanked off her blindfold, only to find herself alone and that the Dragon had once more flown away.
YAY! We finally know the whole deal with this curse.
