It?s Time
Chapter 2
Melville?s Best Friend
He slammed the phone down with enough force to bash someone?s head in. The sound echoed off the bare walls, and found its way to Sally?s ears. Her mouth tipped into a half-smile upon seeing him like this. Of course, he was one to lose his temper with resounding simplicity. He also was prone to worry. His brow furrowed with determination, and his scowl alerted her immediately to the problem.
?Relena??
He cupped his face in his hands, and gave a small nod. Indecipherable Chinese filtered through clenched teeth, heated and sharp. Sally sat beside his desk, trying to find her best course of action. Although she had yet to truly piss him off, she didn?t want to start.
?I fired them.?
She sighed, showing him her disapproval. ?If Une finds out, you could lose your job as well. You?re not authorized to-?
He held up a slip of paper from the colonel giving him permission to ship one, Alex Frankfort, and one, Benjamin Stew, out of the Preventer staff permanently. She smiled and rubbed his back. Knots lined every square inch, and she found herself removing his jacket so she could execute a much-needed massage on her lover.
?They failed to watch her. She shouldn?t be left alone on this day.?
She continued her massage, placing butterfly kisses along his brow.
?You know how she gets.?
Her mouth found its way to his, making him forget his ward?s condition. Their mouths locked in a heated dance, and he found himself slipping into blissful oblivion when a call interrupted their heated moment.
?Commander Chang, get off your wife and listen.?
Une?s harsh yet soothing voice bombarded their moment, and temporarily tore them apart.
?I?ve sent two new guards to watch Relena. We have her location, thanks to the bracelet you wired, and it appears she?s moved back home.?
?She?s home?? both he and Sally remarked at the same time. Sally?s jaw dropped, unable to comprehend Relena?s actions. Wufie?s eyes gleamed with confusion. Une smiled at the two.
?She?s at home with an old comrade of yours, Commander.?
His eyebrow lifted in curiosity.
?Trowa Barton,? she summed ?will keep her safe, I?m sure. Although your worry was well placed, you have nothing else to fear. The agents should report to you shortly, as I told them that you are their new supervisor.?
She paused momentarily before her eyes trailed to Wufie?s exposed torso. Her eyes danced with amusement.
?Have fun, you two.?
The transmition was terminated, and the lovers stared at each other.
?Well? She IS okay. We could still-?
He kissed her gorgeous lips that moved with too much grace. Capturing them for his own, he whispered, ?You talk too much for your own good, Onna?
Her attempts to fight his words with her own ended as she allowed herself pleasure.
It?s time to hold my hand
And take a chance.
It?s time to pay the band
And start the dance.
We hear the melody,
We know the song.
It?s time, I think
We?re on the brink
Of waiting far too long.
Tears fell down her face at an alarming rate with her laughter, and she found herself losing control of her own body. Shaking, she called to Catherine. ?Stop! Stop telling the story! I?m going to pee if you keep talking!?
Catherine laughed at the girl?s actions, and smiled at Trowa, who looked none-too amused. His eyes toyed with hers, telling her that if she didn?t stop, there would be Hell to pay. She stuck her tongue out at him, and ran to Relena?s side, whispering something in her ear.
Relena?s eyes grew wider as each word was whispered, and she flew to the bathroom. Her laughter followed her down the hall.
Trowa continued to glare at his sister. She winked.
Why not believe our eyes
And cross our hearts?
Dispense with alibis-
Enough false starts!
It?s time to put away our childish things
And time to thrust
In us?And what tomorrow brings!
Relena emerged some 2 minutes later; a tissue in her hand was busy wiping away her tears. She still chuckled every now and then while she moved, and when she caught sight of Trowa, her laughter threatened to spout again.
?Trowa, dear, are you sure you didn?t mind having your sister tell that story??
He made no sound and continued to stare coldly at his sister.
Relena suddenly felt badly for causing sibling rivalry, and she walked to Trowa, squatting beside him to peer into his eyes. Since he was still sitting at the dining room table, she had a clear view of his handsome features. She whispered to him, taking his hand in hers.
?I?m so sorry for asking her to tell that. Had I known it caused you discomfort, I wouldn?t have said anything.?
Her serious tone astounded him, and he wished he could assuage her guilt. It was misplaced, after all. His hand squeezed hers back, and she gasped at the pressure. His head bent to hers, and his hot breath tickled her ear and sent warmth down her body. She shivered with the feeling. He whispered as delicately as she had, noting her reactions, and finding it hard not to fondle her right then and there.
?I will collect information on you in due time.?
With that, he tickled her side, sending her into a fit of laughter once more. He picked her up, placed her on his lap, and held her with the arms she had only hours before wished she could massage. She pleaded with him to stop, claiming she would never speak of this to anyone. His story safe, he released his grip on her, but his hands fell to her waist almost protectively. She didn?t stray, but held his hands around her, and stared into his eyes.
His hand moved across her belly slightly, and rather than feel tingly tickling touch, electricity flowed to her body. She gasped, and he recoiled, afraid of how his hands had betrayed him.
Catherine chose that time to remind them she was still in the room.
?Ah, so, Tro-Tro. I never knew you had a thing for blondes.?
It?s time to risk it all
And shoot the moon!
So just let go and fall!
It?s not too soon!
Before the clock strikes one more chime,
Let?s see if we can move love off this dime,
?Cause when we kiss we both can see?
It?s time!
Red flew to her cheeks faster than fire spreads in gasoline, and she removed herself from him, walking to a far wall. The warmth she had felt for such a fleeting moment left, and was replace with the coldness of being alone. He turned to her and smiled.
?I meant no disrespect, miss Relena.?
?Relena, please,? she breathed, calming herself. ?Call me Relena.?
He nodded, and then sent a glance to his sister. She once again winked.
?You can?t become angry with me. I thought I was funny!?
?Your humor needs immediate attention.?
?Relena thought my story was funny.?
Relena giggled, proving Catherine?s statement.
Catherine chuckled and pointed to the giggling girl, ?Aha! See?? Her eyes closed in a childish manner, and she walked over to Relena to give her a sisterly hug.
?Your happiness makes me feel good, Relena! You looked so depressed this afternoon. I?m glad I could make you laugh.? Catherine smiled at her, and Relena smiled back wholeheartedly.
Trowa watched them with interest. Curious, he allowed the mood to darken, as he knew his question was personnel.
?Why were you so sad, Relena??
Her smile faded, and she looked at him, them moved her eyes to a spot that she knew would ask her no questions. She sat beside him at the table, motioning for Catherine to sit by her as well.
She wants a human shelter? She?s surrounding herself with us. Relena?
It?s getting too late
For a lengthy debate
So let?s go for the win!
Let?s give forever a shove so that love can begin!!!!
?Hee?? She cleared her throat and started again. Her guards, being in the room, though silent, watched her with abandoned curiosity.
?I met Heero five years ago today. He left me three years ago. I say he left me as if?As if I were his. But, that?s how I think of it. I gave him my heart. Whether or not he returned the favor, I don?t care. But my heart belongs to him.?
?What were you doing away from your house then? If I were you, I?d bury myself in ice cream, dreary music, and a good snuggly teddy. Why were you out?? Catherine questioned.
?I was out because?Because if something were to happen to me, I know he?d come back. If I were in danger, he?d return. If I sit at home, I?ll be protected,? she looked at Catherine, tears evident in her eyes. ?He won?t come if I?m not in danger. He?he won?t come if I?m not hurt??
?Relena!? Catherine scolded, taking her shoulders firmly in her grasp. ?How on earth could you wish such a thing? What a-?
Trowa gently touched Relena?s face; caressing it in an all-too-gentle way. He lifted her head so that her eyes met his.
?You have people right here who love you and care for you right here, right now.?
Tears fell down her face in cascades.
It?s time to let it ride
?Cause time won?t wait!
If luck is on our side,
It?s not too late!
?Though you may not want me, Relena-sama, I?ll protect you.?
She hugged him. She threw herself on him and hugged him with all her might. She cried into his shoulder. She cried all her fears onto him, and he held her safely.
She lifted her head to meet his gaze. ?I would be honored, Trowa,? she reached for Catherine?s hand, ?and Catherine.?
Catherine smiled at her, and squeezed her hand right back. ?Call me Cathy.?
Relena smiled, a choked sob fell from her throat, and she hugged Cathy tightly. Trowa smiled at the sight.
When she was finished crying, she stood up and straightened her dress, smoothing out the wrinkles with delicate hands.
?You two,? she sniffed, ?hate where you live??
?Well, I hate how small it is?And all the noise the neighbors make,? Cathy said.
?I hate leaving her behind in a neighborhood like that,? Trowa quietly commented.
?I have a solution to this problem. You two are to move in with me at once.?
The siblings started to politely protest, but Relena kept talking, holding her hand up in defiance of their wishes to speak.
?Now, no rent will be required, I have more than enough room. I?m never home, and when I do come, it would be wonderful to see you two and laugh with you. I have no noisy neighbors, and plenty of cars and means of transportation, and you couldn?t ask for a safer residence than MY house. Une designed the security system herself! Please tell me you?ll take my offer!? her eyes bore into both of them, their hearts unable to turn her down. When she saw Trowa sigh, she knew she had won.
She and Catherine smiled and screamed and hugged each other. Trowa watched it all, happy to have her regain her humanity. He closed his eyes and listened to the noises, unaware that Relena was creeping up on him.
He arms were around his upper body in an instant, and before he could react, a chaste kiss was planted on his forehead. She lowered herself to his ear, where red quickly started forming. ?This way, you can collect your information. Just stay the hell away from my shower,? she winked at him, and stood with his beaming sister.
Before we stumble past our prime,
I know together we can make this climb!
?Cause I believe for you and me?
It?s time!
For the first time in his life, he laughed.
It was time.
