It?s Time
Melville?s Best Friend
Chapter 1
I?m so tired of being here
suppressed by all of my childish fears.
And if you have to leave,
I wish that you would just leave,
Because your presence still lingers here-
and it won't leave me alone.
She wandered around aimlessly, watching the children tug at the hem of their parent?s clothing, begging to get some sugary snack or ride a pony. She sniffed the air absent-mindedly, inhaling much more than the mouth-watering aroma of soft pretzels and cotton candy. Wet cat bombarded her, and she realized that the tigers must have gotten baths from after their show. She laughed as she recalled the clowns toying with the cats. The beasts looked none too pleased to be tormented so, and for once, sorrow other than her own grief stabbed at her heart. It was short-lived, however, at the family scene in front of her.
She smiled sadly, knowing that she would never have what these people had. A little girl hung delicately from both her parents? hands, and swung about imitating the monkeys she had just seen. She let it sink into her heart, where she felt it gnaw cruelly at her soul. She felt herself not caring about the pain her emotions caused her. It occurred all too frequently, and she was tired of trying to fight it. She was tired of so many things.
What proved to be the most excruciating on her body and mind was this day. Not only had she been able to ?celebrate? this day on more than occasion, but also she had always managed to do it alone.
She had met Heero this day five years ago.
He had disappeared 3 years ago.
Although she convinced herself he wasn?t coming back, she had yet to take her eyes away from the shadows, playing with the idea that he might be there, watching her. Protecting her. Her heart cried for him, and her head cried for justice for the heartache he caused her. Nothing made sense anymore. Perhaps nothing would. She continued to make her way through the crowds when she caught a glimpse of a familiar face. Her legs moved swiftly towards it, and she found her brain malfunctioning. For once, her mind was placed on the backburner.
She should have known he?d be at the circus. After all, she had read somewhere that?s where he had family. In an instant, she lost sight of him, and she traveled to the back of a tent in pursuit. She bumped into a woman who looked about a year ahead of her. Her eyes twinkled with beauty and grace, and her outfit screamed she was from the circus. The leotard accented her features, clinging to her frame as if it were extra skin. Feathers flew from her hair, adding highlights to her hair. Her curly red hair flew about with a life all its own, and Relena smiled at the sight of her. She looked so exultant.
These wounds won't seem to heal.
This pain is just too real.
There's just too much that time cannot erase.
?Better watch were ya? go!? she said sweetly.
?Oh, I?m sorry!?
?It?s no problem!? the girl?s smile lit up the darkness of the night.
?I was wondering if you-?
?I?m sorry, but the show?s over. Come back tomorrow if you can. I have a lot of work to do, cleaning all this stuff up!? she started walking towards the animal cages.
?No, I just wanted to know if I could speak with-? Relena?s voice trailed. The girl turned to look at her.
?Yeah? Who??
?Do you know Trowa Barton??
?Sure do! He?s my brother! I?m Catherine,? she held out her hand in greeting.
?May I speak with him?? Relena accepted the elder girl?s hand, weakly grasping, whereas Catherine gripped her hand as if it were her last stay on Earth.
Catherine eyed the girl and shook her head. ?He?s really busy?. miss??
?I?m no one important,? Relena interrupted. She turned away, the pain in her heart returning to fill Catherine?s place. ?I enjoyed the show!?
?Who needs me, Cathy??
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears.
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears,
And I've held your hand through all of these years;
but you still have all of me.
She turned to see him standing beside his sister, shirtless, and dripping from a shower. Each bead was well placed on his body, as if the devil himself were trying to make her take him right then and there. Crimson seeped to her face faster than lightning, appearing there almost magically. The circus must have been a physically demanding job, as his arms and body were taught with muscle. Relena thought that he could kill her with a flick of his pinky.
He could kill her with his beauty.
She shook her head to cleanse her mind of the thoughts quickly forming, and tried her best to calm herself in a diplomatic way. Catherine pointed towards Relena, showing Trowa who was waiting for him. ?Don?t be too long, Tro! You?ve got cages 6-10 to clean tonight!?
She walked up to him, trying to force the red from her cheeks with grace. Unfortunately, the crimson increased all the more the closer she was to him. His shirtless ness was too much for any woman to bare. She stammered, her practiced diplomatic air vanished, and she found herself stuttering like a maniac. Never before had she lost control.
?Hi. Uhhhhh???.Idoubtyouknowme. Afterall,we?venevermet,but I-?
?Relena Dorlain? he breathed. Her name on his lips was a calling from God himself. Never before had her name seemed so perfect in her own ears. Her face adopted the color of a tomato, and she stared at him with glazed eyes.
?Well, I suppose you would know my face wouldn?t you?? she smiled at him.
He marveled in her form. Her tiny frame moved with elegance and grace, and she carried an air about her that no camera had caught. Her hair moved gently about in the wind, tempting him to tuck its thin strand behind her succulent ear. He swallowed.
?I remember you, Relena.? He called to his sister, ?Catherine, she helped in the search to find me all those years ago,? he continued to stare at her, expressionless.
She lost herself in his eyes, noting how they changed with his thoughts. She could read him as easily as she could read Heero, and her pale face attracted red once more. She berated herself for her childish behavior, and she was on her way to calming herself.
You used to captivate me
by your resonating light.
But now I'm bound by the life you left behind.
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams.
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me.
?If you?re looking for him, he?s not here.?
These wounds won't seem to heal.
This pain is just too real.
There's just too much that time cannot erase.
She immediately returned to her normal color, and stared at him, allowing her diplomat?s face to once again hide. She averted her eyes, and the light ran from them as if the creature before her were as hideous as Satan.
?I no longer wish to pursue him as I he were my lost soul,? she whispered, her voice lost in the roar of the lions. The wind picked her phrase and sent it to the Heaven?s. She sighed.
?He was my weakness.?
Trowa continued to assess her, and placed a hand on her shoulder. He felt her shudder travel to his heart; the simple contact alive with electricity. She turned to face him, eyes once again alive with a light that angels would envy. Smiling, she placed a hand on his, and whispered.
?I feel like I?ve known you all my life.?
He let his hands betray him, as her hair tempted them by the majesty in which they flew. They easily slid into his hands, and he marveled at how soft every part of her was. He smiled.
?I feel the same way.?
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears.
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears,
and I?ve held your hand through all of these years;
but you still have all of me.
Catherine came out carrying a tray full of brooms and mops. Sweat clung to her brow, and her eyes were hard and fiery.
?Trowa Bloom!!!! Get over to those cages and do your job!?
Relena smiled at the girl. Though it was evident she was upset, her eyes held a kindness that brought Relena?s old demeanor to shame.
?I was wondering, Trowa? Would you be at all interested in dining with me tonight? You, too, Catherine, if that?s okay.?
Trowa had no time to answer, as his sister clasped her hands together in ecstasy.
?We?d love to, Miss Relena!?
?Please, no formalities.?
?Alright, then, Relena!?
Trowa watched her eyes darken with her last comment. He followed her emotions as if they were his own. She smiled, catching Trowa?s gaze.
?Trowa. Get.? She scooted him along with the brooms towards his cages. Catherine smiled at his retreating figure.
?It gets hard, doesn?t it?? Relena asked.
?What??
?Moving all the time. Going from place to place with no way to stop and make friends.?
?Actually, we?ve signed onto this area permanently. Trowa and I share an apartment now on the West side of town. It?s not much, but it?s certainly better than those old trailers.?
?What a horrid part of town! Surely you don?t feel safe!?
?Trowa can take care of us.?
Relena smiled. ?I?m sure he can. I don?t know him well, but I?m anxious to learn about him.?
?I can see it in your eyes.?
Relena looked at Catherine, shocked. A startled gasp emitted from her cherry lips, and she looked at Catherine puzzled.
?You?re in need of a friend.?
?I?m in need of many things. A friend, however, is something I?ve not had in a long time.?
Catherine captured Relena?s hand in hers, twirling about to face her. Her hair bounced playfully around her, and whirled with her movements. The curly tendrils glistened in the moonlight, and added to her natural glow.
?It would be a pleasure to be your friend, Relena.?
Salt kissed her lips gently, awaking her from the beauty of Catherine?s heart. Cat smiled and silently rubbed them away, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead before turning to leave, claiming she had yet more work to do before dinner.
Relena stroked her face, and allowed Catherine?s glow to penetrate her defenses. Her tears dried, she turned to help her new friends. Trowa watched it all from the shadows. Bathed in darkness, he saw the dove of the Earth regain her light. He cursed Heero for the role he played in her heartache. He had best never show his face again. He had best let her heal. Maybe one day she could accept Heero in her life once more. Maybe one day she wouldn?t have to?
I?ve tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone.
And though you're still with me,
I've been alone all along.
He picked up his broom, and set off towards the laughing women.
It was time.
Disclaimer: I don?t own the song or the show. The song?s Evanescence?s. It?s called MY IMMORTAL. You should all go buy the CD?.REALLY GOOD. My suggestion would be to DL it and read this fic whilst it plays...I'm not the wonderful amazing raine_yuy and I can't paly the songs pour vouz....try it, though. ^_^
So, my first try at a 3xr fic! They should all be songfics. I happened to listen to this song, and thought :wow. This goes well?.and in, like, 2 minutes, I plopped it up there. It tells 2 different stories. She?s grieving still over Heero, and she still wants him to come back?.but, she?s learning that with time comes new?.*winks* ?friends??.friends with percs, maybe?.^_^
