Music

Post by Sachie »

I find that music is very helpful inspiration when you're stuck in a story, whether I'm actually listening to it as I type, or it's just playing in my head.
Recently, I managed to start working on a project I'd set aside for a while due to lack of inspiration, just because I happened to catch a song on the radio. It was Michelle Branch's "All You Wanted" btw. I find most of my inspiration in pop or rock music. (Sarah MacLachlan is great for that.)

What do you guys listen to when writing?

I listen to Christophe Beck's music from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I drool over his score) and I listen to various other soundtrack stuff... I think soundtrack helps me because I can imagine the fic having the music as it's soundtrack and music always helps to convey emotions.

Good stuff:

"Sacrifice" Chris Beck
"Close Your Eyes" Chris Beck
"Across The Stars" John Williams
"Magic Snow Music" Chris Beck
"The Ring Goes South" Howard Shore
"To Zanarkand" Nobuo Uematsu
"Aeris's Theme (Pure Heart)" Nobuo Uematsu

But if I'm not listening to soundtrack, I listen to music that really makes me feel something, like "Suteki da ne" by Rikki

Sometimes I also listen to Gackt, though ^_^. "Wasurenai... karaaa!"

I totally agree with Sachie on Sarah MacLachlan. Works wonders I tell ya! Besides that though, I listen to the Beatles, Rooney, and sometimes classical. Or movie soundtracks anyway. My faves are Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. Very relaxing, and good for angst stories. Me and cherryflavored1R think alike! Nicely put too.

Great question!

Some anime songs, my mixed CDs, and any other songs that is either in my CDs or in the cpu since I'll be typing. Most of the time I'll be writing w/o music. So my taste of music is varied.

Anime music, rock, alternative, classical, celtic, songs from movies (rarely an entire soundtrack), y'know stuff like that.

*shrugs* I personally don't want to get too specific because it might break my mojo. As if I had any in the first place but whatever.

Bon Jovi, Sarah McLachlan and Dido. I usually listen to this while writing... John Mayer, Jewel, and Cranberries are algo great for it. Oh, and David Gray, and Remy Zero.

Especially (for writing):
Bon Jovi - Always, Bed of Roses, Runaway, everything from the crossroads CD is good.
Sarah McLachlan - I Love You, Possession, Angel, Fumbling Towards Ecstacy, Fear, Sweet Surrender...
Dido - Can I really choose? I love all her songs...
Jon Mayer - Why, Georgia?
Jewel - Standing Still, Absence of Fear, 1,000 Miles Away, You Were Meant For Me
Cranberries - Shattered, Linger, Yeath's Grave, Empty, When You're Gone, God be With You, Dreams, Ode to My Family...
David Gray - Meet me on the Other Side, Babylon, My Oh My.
Remy Zero - Life in Rain, Gramarye, Yellow Light, Perfect Memory, Prophecy...

I usually listen to slow-sad songs...

Music helps me sometimes, but if I'm actually *doing* something, and I'm listening to music with lyrics, I get sidetracked singing. ^_^; So I try to stick to the orchestrated stuff. Mostly my VG music, Anime BG music or my LOTR music.

..of course, I haven't written very much lately. I should try to fix that.
