Chapter 8 - A Hopeless Case
The morning sun seemed to be more overcasting that day than it used to be. Relena partially opened her puffy eyes and yawned a little due to lack of sleep. She tiredly carried her feet out of the bed and lazily stood by the night table to look at the wooden framed picture of Heero there. It was a stolen shot taken by Duo in their last year?s spring game. Heero was wearing a blue jersey that accentuated the color of his eyes. He wasn?t smiling though but at least he was smirking. That simple smirk meant a lot to Relena. Those thin lips that always made her wonder if he had ever kissed somebody, which he did a hundred of times before to different women, unknown to her. ?It?ll be great to have him for my first kiss.? She giggled a little to herself, feeling as if she were fifteen again. Believe it or not, she?s still never been kissed before. She was reserving herself for Heero only. As in Only. Period. Now, still at a young age of eighteen, Relena felt as if she were an oldie in her eighties who?s waiting for her time to come while laying in her deathbed. The world was spinning slower and slower for her. Everyday appeared to be a decade. Every week seemed to be a century. Weird. Yes, but that?s what she really felt at the moment anyway.
Looking out her window, she noticed that the daisies that were supposedly planted at that corner were already withered and instead dried leaves replaced them. They were scattered everywhere, creating an eerie creaking sound as their mansion?s gardener outside stepped on them. As if the nature was acknowledging her dreadful sentiment, the sun?s ray instantly vanished along with the blissful atmosphere that was surrounding the place a few minutes before she looked out. Cool autumn breeze gently swept over shaking the tree?s branches. Even the weeds decided to play along with the gloomy ambiance and bent down at her in sympathy as the wind blew once more. The animals too could tell that her presence was a disturbance of the peaceful balance of their habitat. Birds flew out of the trees as if they were afraid of absorbing the sadness and the longing she felt inside. Becoming aware of the sudden change of her environment, she just bowed her head down and then turned around to prepare herself to be in prison.
?Another horrid day for me.? She sighed sadly and turned her head around in surprise at her chauffeur?s crotchety voice. ?Huh??
?Miss Relena, the police are already waiting for you outside. Should I let them in??
?Yes, please and tell them that I?ll be down in a few or so.?
?Yes Miss.? With that Pagan hoisted himself to leave as he took one last heartrending glance at the young lady who used to be just a little girl whom he had dedicated his life to for more than a decade. ?Poor little girl?
Wearing a simple ambell cut jeans and a loose beige tee top, Relena went downstairs and faced the authorities formally, ?Good morning officer. So, shall we??
?Huh.? Sergeant Creighton regarded the former Queen of the World brusquely and gestured his right hand for her to lead the way. Relena followed him promptly as she made her exit out of the mansion?s front oak wood door and was immediately swarmed by different kinds of media personnel. Sergeant Creighton took a sneaky glance at Relena who was already at the far end of the hall and made sure that he was already out of hearing range. Shortly afterwards, he instantly took his cell phone from his left pocket and dialed a familiar number. ?Hello Mr. Donenfeld, we are already on our way.?
Two of Sergeant Creighton?s subordinates handcuffed Relena?s hands, which worried her chauffeur. ?Excuse me sir but I think there?s no need for you to put her hands on cuffs, we all know that one remains innocent unless proven guilty.?
Both police officers just looked at each other and suddenly burst out in insulting laughter. ?Hey old man, this is none of your business. We?re just following the standard procedure.?
The other agreed and added, ?Yeah, and haven?t you heard that this little missy here already admitted the gruesome allegation against her. Isn?t that an enough evidence for us to consider her as a cold-blooded criminal? A traitor??
?But?? Relena cut off anything that Pagan was about to say. ?It?s okay Pagan. I understand.? She looked at the officers and solemnly said, ?Let?s go.?
Relena bent her head down and was already about to enter the police cab when all of a sudden a reporter almost shoved the microphone right at her face and asked a few annoying questions. ?Miss Peacecraft, could you tell us the reasons why you want to take over the whole earth and the colonies??
?Was it true that you?re planning to declare martial law for your own political interest?? The reporter continued.
Relena ignored the questions and positioned herself inside as police officers tried to tolerate the increasing number of media personnel outside.
The car moved out of the mansion?s garage and directly went to the women?s correctional center. ?God, I?m scared.?
