Heero's Big Oops, Chapter two

?I don?t see how this is going to help any.? Heero said opening huge dark blue eyes to glare up at Hilde. Hilde Maxwell was positioned over him with a tweezers in one hand and an ice cube in the other.

?Shut up Heero. Really, have you seen Luke? He?s like God?s gift to women. And he doesn?t have eyebrows that have gone un-plucked since Duo and you burnt all your facial hair off trying to light the barbeque two summers ago.? Hilde spat at him through a rush of frustration.

?I?m a just as symmetrical as he is.? Heero said indignant.

?Yes, you may be symmetric Heero Yuy, but girls don?t like symmetry. Girls like sex appeal, and on that Luke has got you beat.? Hilde stood back. It was like talking to a five year old. And really who were these young men she had embraced as family. They really were like five year olds stuck in grown men?s bodies. They could operate the most sophisticated programs and machinery, but they never managed to safely light the barbeque.

Heero mumbled something like ?Not for long.? Hilde hit him in the shoulder.

?Remember what I said about NOT resorting to violence. Relena doesn?t want a violent guy. You need to show her you don?t have to be violent. You need to show her you have changed. And I don?t want to hear otherwise.? Hilde pressed the ice cube forcefully to Heero?s brows.

?If Relena doesn?t need a man capable of violence then why are you helping me?? Heero said closing his eyes against the cold.

?Because I think she needs a man capable of Violence. And besides there is a reason for all of this.?Hilde said waving around the tweezers. Heero had been in the chair for hours. Hilde had brought someone in to cut Heero?s hair then dye the grey out of it, polish and buff his nails, apply a cream to help the appearance of scars. Among other things two gay guys and a pink haired girl had gone over every inch of Heero?s body. The massage wasn?t bad.

?Hn.? Heero said. In other words, go on.

?I want you to have the most perfect eyebrows standing next to Dorothy.? Hilde laughed and Heero grumbled.

?I don?t see how she is going to help either.? Heero grumbled again.

?Well then you?re an idiot. Relena and Dorothy have had the biggest competition going on since grad school. Here in the modern world we call them frenemies.? Hilde scrunched up her nose.

?That?s not a real word.?

?I know it?s not a real word. But what it means is that they are interchangeable friends and enemies at the same time do you understand?? Hilde said stepping back to give him a once over. Heero just stared at her. She got the point.

?And besides you and Dorothy have enough in common I don?t want your brows to look like sisters.? Heero detected faint footsteps in the hall.

?We have nothing in common.? Heero said.

?Right just a repressed sexual attraction towards Relena.? Hilde laughed, and so did Dorothy from behind her. Hilde whipped around.

?Ha ha very funny, I think I remember some interesting pictures of you from Greek week.? Dorothy flashed Hilde a menacing smile. ?Hello Heero.? She said again in more of a sing song voice. Dorothy towered over Hilde. Half because of her natural height and more because of her nearly five inches spike heels.

?Hello Dorothy.? Heero said. It was nice to see someone get the upper hand on Hilde for once. She had started talking and had never quit.

The shoes were truly impressive. Dorothy had to posses some real talent scampering around in those things. And if things tonight did not go well, Heero thought he would use them against Relena?s fianc?. He cocked his head sideways to better analyze the shoes.

?Besides, it?s not a sense of competition I?m propelled by.? Dorothy let the sentence go hoping it would spark someone?s interest. Heero and Hilde both stared at her. ?Ever since Quatre left to find himself, I?ve needed a new game to play.? And they both continued to stare at her; Hilde only noticed that Heero was transfixed on Dorothy?s shoes.

?Well okay then.? Hilde said. She went back to Heero and pulled off the black cape and lowered the chair. Heero stood up and stretched, he had been in that chair for what seemed like hours. He realized that he was clad in only pants and socks, and that both girls were staring.

Heero?s body was nothing to laugh at. The hard plains and crevices of his muscle and the smooth tan all said business. And even the scarring from his exploits both recent and old suggested that this was a man. He wasn?t the tallest pilot, but he was definitely the most well defined. Heero smirked, he was symmetric after all.

?I think I?ll pick out your outfit.? Dorothy said looking him up and down. Hilde glared at her but shrugged as Heero got up and followed Dorothy to Hilde?s bedroom. Hilde had ordered Heero to pick up several bags from the nearest Barney?s. He would only discover later that they were full of men?s clothing.

?Just remember to keep your hands off the merchandise!? Hilde hollered after them. ?And I don?t mean the retail!? she finished after thinking about it for a moment.

Dorothy immediately began to go through the bags. She pulled out shirts and jackets and held them all up to Heero as he stood watching her. Heero could think of a hundred places he?d rather be and a handful of ways to exit the room.

?So how much do you know about Luke Emery?? Dorothy purred admiring a pair of dark denim jeans.

?His security check is clear.? Heero said crossing his arms.

?Did you know he is one of the wealthiest men in the world?? Dorothy said. ?Though I guess Relena doesn?t need any more money.? She gave him a pitiful look.

?I have money.? Heero said unconcerned.

?Yes you do and a very prestigious position at the Preventers. But Luke Emery has the same sort of friends Relena has, and those are friends with money and power. What I am saying is don?t be surprised by the lengths these guys will go to.? Dorothy gave him a more meaningful look.

Heero made a list of research for when he was finally alone and out of this hellhole.

?Okay I?d like you to wear this,? Dorothy handed Heero a grey suit. It was modern and young, and something he would never have worn to attract Relena. His doubt was evident on his face. Heero again looked down at her shoes. The toes were pointed but they would crumple easily under the force of his arm . . .

?Yes, but what is important about your outfit is that you are my date tonight, and you look has to echo my look without looking like we got dressed together in a broom closet.? She said annoyed.

Hilde stepped into the room and leaned against the door frame and closed the cell phone she had in one hand. It snapped in an ominous manner. Both Dorothy and Heero looked warily over at Hilde.

?Catherine has a difference of opinion.? Hilde said unpleasantly. ?She thinks that Luke is a perfect match for Relena. She?s threatening to tell on us.? Hilde?s face was sad. Heero didn?t know what to say, he really didn?t have anything to say. Heero had his own ideas about getting Relena back, eyes darting toward Dorothy?s feet. Idea?s that had gotten him through
most of their primping session today.

?So what if she tells Relena?? Dorothy said laughing. ?Yuy and I can fake it enough to trip up Cathy, who has never even met Luke by the way. Tell her to shut her damn mouth before I do it for her.? Dorothy smiled and grabbed Heero?s arm.

?You tell her that when you see her tonight.? Hilde smiled leaving her bedroom before Dorothy and Heero exited it.

?Why is she coming, I didn?t invite her. This is my party!? Dorothy yelled at no one in particular. Heero looked at her calmly. He was used to deranged outbursts, so it did not surprise him when Dorothy seemed to lose it for a moment.

?Because you invited Trowa and they are engaged. Anyway you?ll be on your own. Duo is at work all night and the kids get home in an hour. You?d better get going.? Hilde said a small hand resting lightly on her flat stomach.

The door hit the wall and bounced off. Relena hardly noticed the hole left in the wall. It was not the first time Relena had slammed the door open and closed this week, and it was Friday so I probably wouldn?t be the last. She threw her briefcase down and kicked her shoes off narrowly missing a free standing dressing mirror down the hall.

What the hell was wrong with him!

Relena leaped to the mirror next to her bed to check her face. Was she ugly? Was there something in her teeth? She tried to smell her breath and then opened her mouth trying to get a look at her molars. Hoping she didn?t have a rotten tooth that caused chronic bad breath. Why didn?t he want to have sex?! Relena had done everything she could think of.
She had shown up in a trench coat and basically nothing else last night. And before that she had sent him a suggestive letter complete with photos. She had tried to get him drunk, but the bastard never had more than two drinks. Relena had even gone so far as to seriously contemplate bringing a friend. Such extremes especially after normal flirting and hot and heavy make out sessions always ended in a sweet kiss good night.

It was enough to make a girl cry.

What was wrong with her? Relena could have almost any guy she wanted. She was thin, fair and blonde. What more did she have to do? Luke was amazing. He was tall, GQ gorgeous. A little thin, but he had never had to work for anything. He came from a good family. He had a medical doctorate which he never used. He was smart, elegant, and funny, everyone loved him. And he seemed to genuinely care for everyone.

But he had never made a crude remark or sexual advance towards her that she had not initiated. In the beginning, Relena was sure he didn?t even like her. But the calls, flowers, and chocolates kept coming. She kept agreeing to the dates. And seven months later when presented with an engagement ring everyone had cheered. And Relena had agreed even before she had a chance to think things over.

Now three weeks from the wedding he still hadn?t done as much as tried to cop a feel. It was enough to make a girl stray. Of course the only guy she had previously wanted was nowhere to be found. At least not when she came around. To say his name out loud created a sharp pain in her chest. And lately there had been so many sharp pains she was beginning to feel like a pin cushion.

?Heero.? She said it anyways. Even the mere thought of him brought back some thrill to her mundane turmoil. Relena bit back the tears. This had to end. She had to end it for herself. Heero had ended it years ago.

Years ago had been the last time she had seen him. Back when she was working with the preventers redrafting their working guidelines. It was her break from politics, and a needed one at that. Things had gotten so out of control. Relena had made a practice of going into the worst affected places of the war and living with the people. She sat up her offices there and held campaign speeches. She believed that if she was going to help people then she needed to make a difference in their everyday lives, before large scale political changes would reach them.

It was a practice that had almost gotten herself killed. She had refused a body guard and any help from the preventors. Against every order from Milliardo, she was finally out on her own. Relena was making a difference without anyone?s help but the peoples. It had gotten her reelected. And it had gotten her a world full of pain.

A stupid personal policy to ignore any threats against her life had gotten a young boy killed. She had been unable to explain to his mother why her son was dead. Why after all the fighting was over, people around her still ended up dead. The life of an innocent child stolen away for the chance that hers would end.

In Relena?s mind, she may as well have been the killer. When it happened from far away, Relena could rationalize. This was her life; she had chosen this dangerous path knowing that her work made bad people suffer. And they in turn would make innocent people suffer. But it had to be done.

Finally when she did ask for help, the preventors sent her only the best. And that meant the Gundam pilots. Heero had suddenly resurfaced in her life. But things had spiraled too far out of control. Drink was an all too easy refuge.

It had been a long time since Relena had binged. That night with Heero had shaken life back into her. But it had also scared her. She didn?t want to trap him, and she didn?t want to hear him apologize for something she wasn?t sorry for. So she avoided him. Looking back on it, it seemed like a stupid mistake. If she had only talked to him, maybe she would be with him now and not a marvelous guy named Luke.

Luke Emery.

Relena Emery.

Relena Darlian-Emery.

Relena Yuy . . .

A buzzing noise distracted her. Her cell phone displayed the text message on the touch screen. It was from Luke. Relena laughed out loud, ?Well I guess that answers that question.? She said somewhat bitterly. Luke was on his way, and she had completely forgotten about Dorothy?s party.

Quickly leaving the cell phone unanswered Relena sprang to her closet. She had to find the perfect dress to show up Dorothy and entice Luke into something more than kissing. She settled on the shortest thing in her closet. The black dress was short compared to everything else in her closet, but not truly short.

Relena was a public figure and a role model. But the dress was tight, and she hoped that it would be enough. She let her hair out of its day time bun and threw the loose waves around her shoulders and neck. After the Smokey eye-shadow and sheer pink lip-gloss she felt complete. She felt sexy, at least she hoped.

Looking in the mirror objectively, Relena knew she looked good. But her thoughts full of old rejections and pending rejections only made her want to cry.
