GW = not mine (ow I wish it were!)
Warning: none really, some hints at sexual stuff, mild language.....but there will be a lemon in this story!

Relena was getting pretty tired. The Charity Ball hadn?t been going on for more then 3 hours but dancing and talking to all the delegates had begun to take their toll. She has begun to hate the fakeness of it all. It was a Charity Ball, but nothing was charitable about it. Everybody was their to either boost their status or popularity. Nobody was actually there for the cause. Relena could count the people who actually knew what the cause WAS on one hand. Rolling her eyes a bit to noticeably she got the attention of the person who was sitting next to her.
?You alright Miss Relena.? The young delegate asked.
She smiled at him, he was one of the few who was here for the cause and not for his own agenda. His blond hair falling neatly to the sides of his face. His bleu eyes were piercing her and she knew he could read her mind. Quatra always seemed to read her like an open book.
She let out a soft sign and decided she could excuse herself and get a good night sleep. Quatra nodded his approval. ?You could use some extra sleep Relena, go on, I can handle it from here.?
?You have always been better at this sort of thing Quatra, how do you do it?? She said. And he knew it was more a statement then an actual question. He flashed her his gorgeous smile and just winked at her.
Relena made her way through the masses and when she reached the door she must have said ?Goodbye? or ?Excuse me? more then an hundred times. Although she was no longer the Queen of the World, many still saw her as that symbol. Every delegate or politician wanted to talk to her all for their own agenda of course. Trying to persuade her into doing or saying things. Some even tried to angry her. But none had succeeded thus far.
When the cold winter breeze hit her skin, and her eyes shone with the light of the moon she gave a loud and awaited sign. A jacket suddenly appeared on her shoulders, but it didn?t startle her. She already knew it came from her most trusted bodyguard. The man who would give his live to protect her, from terrorists or even the common cold. She glanced at him and gave him a genuine smile that she only preserved for her closest friends. No words were needed when he guided her down the stairs of the large building to her awaiting limousine.
The ride home was taken in silence as usual, but none were bothered by it. ?You left early tonight.? Was the statement her bodyguard made.
?I believed it was the right decision to make, I need the rest.? She said. Heero nodded his consent, he would have made the same decision. After all she had been working nearly 15 hours a day the last week which could not be healthy for her. He swore to protect her, even if that means protecting her from herself.
They arrived at her mansion within a few minutes and Heero opened the door for her.
Relena loosened her hair from the tight bun it had been in for the last couple of hours and gave a soft sign. She made her way into the kitchen for a much needed cup of thee. Heero got two cups from the cupboard and set them on the table. It had become routine for them to drink thee before retiring. ?Heero, sometimes I think about stepping aside from my job.? Heero raised his eyebrow. ?Why Relena??.
?It?s hard to do what I do, I?m good at it I know. But sometimes I just wish that I had an easier lifestyle you know.? She looked in his eyes, trying to make him understand. ?I mean, I want to have a family one day, and not have paparazzi standing in front of my gate 24/7. I don?t want people to watch my every move.? She placed both hands on the counter and let her head fall down. She sighed heavily at the dream that she might never have. ?Sometimes Relena, people want their lives to be different, that?s normal. But you have such an important job, you can?t just quite. It would harm the peace. People are counting on you.?
?I?m nothing more then a symbol Heero.? She turned to him and he saw the sadness in her eyes. His features softened just a little but enough for Relena to see. ?No your not.? His answer was short but direct. Typical Heero. She nodded slowly, the soft whistle of the water kettle interrupting their conversation.
Relena pored the thee in the cups and started to stare at the warm liquid in her cup. She wanted to ask him something but needed to find the courage for it. As if reading her mind Heero said ?What??.
?It?s nothing Heero, I was just wondering something.?
Silence.
?Would I be a good mother someday??
Heero gave her half a smile the one he reserved only for her. He leaned forward and cupped her chin. ?I couldn?t think of anyone better for the job.?
She smiled at him. Leave it to Heero to comfort her when she was feeling insecure. Something flashed through his eyes. Any normal person wouldn?t have noticed but she did. She felt something draw her to him as she inched closer and closer. When they lips nearly met she halted. He hadn?t moved at all. So she went for it.
Their kiss was brief but the taste of him was intoxicating. She noticed Heero had come completely rigid and wasn?t moving, or kissing her back for that matter. Relena sat down again, Heero?s face read utter shock and disbelief. At least for once he was showing his emotions openly!
She bit her lower lip as she felt the blood rise to her cheeks. What the hell was she thinking?

Heero blinked, and blinked again.

Relena decided there was only one thing left to do to stop embarrassing herself.
RUN!
She got up and made a mad dash for the stairs. Leaving Heero to gawk at an empty chair. It was certainly not impossible that he didn?t even notice her leaving.
She made it to her bedroom in record breaking time. She closed the door behind her and leaned herself against the door. Slipping down to the floor and hugging her knees Relena let out a small sob. She has absolutely no idea what would happen next. Knowing Heero he probably would act like nothing happened.
She hissed as a sharp pain shot through her heart. She didn?t want him to ignore this, she wanted him to come running after her rip of her clothes and?.never mind.
She had always know she was in love with Heero, the first time she looked in those gorgeous eyes she was lost. And never found again.
However as the years past and she grew older she came to realize the chance of them being together was less then 0%. After all, he was a soldier, a Gundam Pilot an assassin. She believed he was capable of love, o yes, she saw it in his eyes from time to time. But incapable of acting on it. And then of course there was her job. She was the Vice Foreign Minister, the most famous politician in the world. There was not a person alive that had never seen her face before. The person she would date needs to be comfortable of being in the spotlight just like her. You know, the ?smile & wave? concept. She chuckled at the thought of Heero smiling and waving at a large crowd of photographers and fans. Hell no, it would be more likely that the hand of God would reach out from the skies and dragged her into oblivion. But ow, how she wished it could happen?not the God part of course. Heero was sure strong enough to handle the pressure of constantly being judged on everything you do. To be seen as unworthy to be with the Princess. But he was just not cut out to be in the spotlight next to her.
A lone tear made a trail along her cheek. She wiped it away with the back of her hand. She had already spend to much tears on Heero, no more.

tump, tump, tump
She noted a strange sound in the back of her head. What was that?
tump, tump, tump
There is was again, she noted it must come from behind her.
tump, tump, tump
What the hell? Somebody was knocking on her door. Seeing the time on her alarm clock she concluded it could only be one person.
But he sure as hell never ever knocked!
She opened the door to the intense stare of Prussian blue eyes which belonged to the person she feared it would be.
?Heero.?
