I think it's silly because there's no actual "Flying Degree" that you can get. He's going for an english degree. @.@ Logically, guys who have completed four years in college aren't necessarily any better flyers than guys who have spent their time after highschool learning to be pilots. And yet somehow, they're preferred over the latter ones.

It really sucks that society places so much emphasis on college and -where- one goes to college these days. It's really just up to the individual person and what one does with their education-- having a master's degree doesn't really mean you'll be any better off than someone who never even went to community college.

Example: My step-grandfather has a Master's Degree in ... chemisty, I believe. He went to Berkley. He's a really brilliant guy with science and the like. But, even though he was employed by Chevron at one point and helped come up with that new gasoline stuff, he really hasn't done much with his life.

My great-granfather went to a community college and got his law degree in some unknown, small college. When places wouldn't hire him, her started his own law firm. He was a brilliant man and like never lost a case-- and eventually his firm started making over a million a year. He would've gone even farther, but, sadly, he died before his time ...

Anyway, point being. Going to a prestigious academy and/or getting your Masters Degree does not guaruntee success in life or even much about your individual character. It says something about the person to be sure, but anyone who works hard can become accomplished. That's why it's so frustrating that companies judge so much on education these days-- I mean, education is very important, that's a given. But why should it matter so much -where- you learned what you've learned if it's all the same anyway?
One day, we will all look back on this moment, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Oh. Well fine, so there is. ^_^ It's just funny that it doesn't seem to matter -what- type of degree you have so long as you -do- have one. This, supposedly, makes you a better pilot? @.@

i think the idea is that if you'ld put the time into getting a degree you're more trustworthy or some bs like that. it's my personal oppinion that the pilot with more experience should be hired, but i don't have a say in any of that (yet) now do i?

That's exactly my point. ^_^ having a degree means you had the determination to get through college, too, but someone without a degree could have the same determination for their work.
