Alt Pairing Reflections - What are your thoughts?

I should really just stay out of this shouldn't I? I really should. I've been avoiding this topic like the plague, but when I hear my name mentioned, when I hear my favorite Gundam pilot being somewhat abused I have to poke my head in. It's a requirement.

I will say this: on second thought I won't because that will put me into this discussion.

But I won't comment on anything. I can't. It'll drag on and on. And really, this is why I'm the HERETIC this year isn't it? My adoration of alt. pairings has brought me to this state.

Oh and EVERYONE should read Angel Sanctuary. EVERYONE should love it and worship it and realize that Lucifer-sama is mah god!!!

I think that just sent me even further into Hell didn't it? Ayup, I'm pretty sure it did. But I won't get all up on my alt. pairings. I won't do it. I won't.

Wow. I'm gone for a little while and the forum explodes. As for the pairings thing, well, I'm a fan of the HY x RP. But I love reading Heero x anybody (female. I'm not a yaoi fan.) I'm kinda surprised my HY x MK was only briefly mentioned. Its one of the rarest Heero x somebody pairings. I've only found one other and I love the pairing. I know my fic is kinda graphic, but it's one of the only ways I could write the couple. I also like the Heero x Hilde coupling and the Heero x Catherine coupling. As for a Heero x Drothy, I'd read it and review, it sounds interesting.

So maybe I lied. I'm human and I'm allowed to lie even if it's wrong because as a human I am allowed certain indiscretions. I am going to get involved.

First I absolutely adore alternative pairings. I really, really do. I don't think that's ever been a secret in this fandom or a few other ones (except Hellsing, I don't have any alt. pairings). I like to pair Relena up with all the various male characters in the show barring old geezers and the like. Anyone older than Treize and he's out of the running. Perhaps its a small show of sanity on my part that I do have limits and boundaries. Good for you no?

I am a woman. I relate to a woman a lot easier than a man and I can live vicariously through Relena by pairing her up with the other males. Does she belong with Heero? Absolutely and that is why I watch the show and support 1xR. However since this is alt. pairings and in the alt. forum the 1xR is thrown out of the window. See how it flutters so sweetly upon the winds like a butterfly as that ship makes its way back to its designated forum?

Relena is easeier to pair up with the men because it's easier to find certain qualities in each male that would compliment her and vice versa. Heero is an extremely stoic character. He tells Trowa to act on his emotions, but in all honesty we never really see Heero have any emotions other than fear, guilt, and anger. The only person that can bring anything remotely different in him is Relena. No other female in the series can do that. Relena is able to bring out something in each of the males she encounters bringing about the possibilities for different romances. Duo thinks she's cute but strange and stubborn. Trowa respects her and her ideals as well as her emotions even though they've never truly met face to face in the anime. Quatre has the utmost respect for her and sees her as a friend, an equal. Wufei is confused by her, angry at her for her ideals and perhaps even her strength whether he admits it or not. Treize is amused but impressed.

Heero inspires awe to the women around him (except Sylvia who looks down on him in a way and Hilde is never actually given an impression of him because she's wrapped up in Duo and her own OZ soldier drama). All the women rely on him, including Relena. There's a huge difference in that Relena relies on Heero for her strength whereas the others look to Heero to bail their asses out of any given situation. It's literally Heero worship. There is nothing to indicate any sort of romantic nuances between Heero and the other females. I think Dorothy, if anyone other than Relena, could get under his skin. She's coniving and at times deceitful, and I've no doubt she'd turn into a successful seductress. I'm sure she of all the other alternative women could bag Heero. However it wouldn't be anything lasting and more of a conquest on her part and either a learning experience or mistake on his. I cannot see any other female catpuring his interest as much as Relena and that is why I cannot see him in any alternate pairing.

Heero, for me, with another female is wrong. He is either with Relena or no one and in all honesty I think that's how he'd prefer his life. Alone or with Relena in some sort.

Relena would be more open to other possibilities because she's a much more dynamic person whereas Heero is rather static.

I don't believe Trowa is a Heero copy and no matter how many times we debate about this Ryan, you'll never convince me that he's a Heero copy. They have certain similarities but he has so much more to him than a lot of people want to give him credit for. Am I biased? Maybe, because he is my favorite and I do like for him to be paired up with Relena. And if not her then maybe Dorothy or Une and never Catherine or Midii. I just cannot see those two pairings at all either. Trowa would either be with Relena, Dorothy, Une, or himself because I think that as long as he had a place to call home he'd be okay. After Heero I think Relena would be intrigued by him, and if they didn't go to the physical emotional way, they would certainly share a mental connection.

Trowa with Dorothy would equal awesome angsty sex and that is never a bad thing. You all seem to hear the word sex or smut and think it's a bad thing. But considering it is fanfiction, they're some of the greatest things in the world. Don't even try to deny it. They would be a mental battleground, but I think Trowa understand her more than anyone. Would they ever actually end up "happily ever after?" Hell no. But the sex would be good and it would continue even after Dorothy married a proper gentleman and did what she was expected to do.

Trowa and Une are a seriously plausible relationship. He understood her extremely well and understood there were two sides of her and how to deal with each. Besides, who doesn't love inter-office romance (assuming Trowa is a Preventer)?

Now, Sally and Trowa is something I'd like to see. I've never seen that but you can't tell me there isn't any sexual tension between those two in Endless Waltz on the shuttle after Duo breaks out of prison. Those two at least had a good romp somewhere before Wufei became her Preventer partner.

Duo with someone other than Hilde is strange for me but not impossible. Of course I like me a good 2xR every now and again. I could easily see Duo falling for her and I think Relena would try to deny any feelings she had for him if in fact there were any. Other than those two women, I cannot see Duo with someone else. In fact I don't think I've ever seen Duo with any other woman other than Hilde or Relena. Hell it might be because Duo would view the other women as rather butch and while he wants a strong woman he'd still want a woman at the end of the day.

Quatre has three options: Relena, Catherine, Dorothy. Most tend to see him with Dorothy so therefore I won't discuss that possibility as it isn't an alt. pairing. In most ways I see Quatre and Catherine as a strong contender. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking but Catherine is a strong woman with just the right amount of tenderness that I think Quatre would need. Granted everytime he had a problem her response might be, "Here, have some soup." And I think Trowa would approve of their union. Catherine just has to get over her possessive sister act and see Quatre for the great guy he is.

Although some might see Relena and Quatre as the same I don't and not because of the whole male vs. female thing either. The two would understand each other so well, so initmately that I think that it would either transcend friendship and maybe even them as lovers. Those two would be connected in one way or another. And sometimes opposites don't attract. Sometimes you need someone like you and that's what gets you through the day. I think they actually compliment each other well.

Now, Quatre and Noin, oh they so did it while he and Heero were in Sanc. Don't even try to tell me they didn't because if Heero and Relena had haooy on Libra, Quatre had haooy in Sanc. Quatre is the pimp. Because I'm sure he also "comforted" Relena and even "confronted" Dorothy at one point. But this is a pairing I wouldn't mind seeing more often.

Wufei is typically with Sally (when she isn't screwing Trowa) so they won't be discussed. But the boy is in total denial of his hormones when he tells Heero that he can't accept Relena or her ideal during their fight in EW. The woman is a strong woman and he might be threatened by it. His late wife was extremely strong and therefore only a strong woman would capture his interest if he were ever honest with himself. But I could picture this pairing easily enough, especially in an AU where Mariemaia won. Granted that'd be pure angsty sex but that's not bad is it? Didn't think so.

Smut everyone. Say it with me: Smut is good. 5xR smut is good.

I also have to admit that I wouldn't mind reading a well written Wufei x Mariemaia fic. Granted the twerp would have to be in her late teens but I could see her easily viewing him as something more than just a great Gundam soldier under her command or formerly under her command. She'd probably fall easily for him because he is a strong character.

Oh and Zechs and Dorothy totally made it on Libra. I suppose that's another possible pairing. I think she'd aggravate him with her mental challenges and it end up with them either in bed or an extremely intense verbal warfare.

Une and Zechs is another possible pairing that I wouldn't be surprised at one bit. I haven't really read anything that was well written for this pairing but it can be done.

Then there's the yuri which I'm not allowed to discuss and then another pairing I like (see: love) but would be forever forbidden to discuss (see: Hell) but think is HIGHLy probable.

Ah! I almost forgot about threesomes. Threesomes are fun and are written purely for FUN! It's typically a smutfest and while certain situations may actually arise in some cases, it's never to be taken seriously. It's fun and it's smut. Love triangles are not threesomes but triangles and should never be lumped together unless the triangle decides that horizontal all the way around is best.

The best thing to remember is this: Respect. Respect of another's preference of alt. couples. Respect of another's opinion. Respect of the other person. Respect the fact that it's fanfiction and should never be taken seriously.

And never take yourself seriously. All it does is make you look like a goob.

It wasn't intended to come across as such, but I suppose it did sound that way. However, hypothetically, if the pairing she's mumbling about, is the pairing we once talked about Wicked-chan, then I'm sure you could understand my giving her a head's up. I don't think said pairing'd be possible, since HE knows about her, while SHE may be in the dark, at least early on. That's all I'll say about that.

Une and Zechs is another possible pairing that I wouldn't be surprised at one bit. I haven't really read anything that was well written for this pairing but it can be done.

I'm assuming your saying that cause Superposition hasn't really focused on those two yet. Beer'd be heartbroken if you mean't anything otherwise.


As to the others just " basically relying on Heero to bail their asses out of any given situation". Does that include Noin, Sally and Dory-chan? Noin who travelled into space, fought against Dolls and stared down Wufei? Dorothy, who's so manipulative she not only left Romefeller for White Fang, but also became an officer? And Sally who helped, indirectly, Noin to steal back Wing, and helped Wufei overcome some of his doubts?

I really don't see these as " basically relying on Heero to bail their asses out of any given situation". Since they're more militarialistic, in some ways I can see Heero more relating to them than Rel in some ways.

Which is why I'll laugh at the "Heero will Rel or no one," as log as they exist.

You're not actually saying, Ryan, that just because the pairing doesn't have enough evidence in the show doesn't mean that we shouldn't like to see it, are you? We're not talking _support_ here, we're talking reading, liking, seeing. That particular pairing we three are babbling on about is indeed a little implausible, but we just like it. We're not going to support it. (If we ever decide to do so and go against other people, I'd admit we'd have our behinds beat, as there isn't any actual, reliable evidence in the show.)

Relena actually never gets old for an alt. pairing. Mostly for the reasons Wicked wrote above. Besides, we all love Relena anyway, so who would disapprove of seeing her with Wufei, or Quatre? Alt. pairings are mostly just for fun. We can put any characters together - provided that they relate to each other in some way - and just whoop it up with them. That's why I like alt. pairings. Canons can get a little dull, and alts just spice up the show.

As for Heero x female-that's-not-Relena, it's perfectly workable. We're not saying it isn't. I just love Relena, and Relena getting all the pie is good enough for me, and, while HeeroxFemale is ok, it's just not satisfying as MalexRelena. For me. For us. In our opinion. Because we're women, and we're staying that way.

5xR smut is good. 1xR smut is like one of those Galaxy bars. 5xR smut is the same, but only with hazelnuts. They're that good. =) Oh, and threesomes. *claps* I wrote one just yesterday and it's the first time I've written a threesome. I think. I can't remember.

And, no, come to think about it, Wicked didn't lead me directly to that particular forbidden pairing. She just brought up the subject with Angel Sanctuary, and then I went from there to Gundam Wing. Then I flipped my lid, I loved the pairing, and I wrote a fic on said pairing. So, as you can see, I didn't tread lightly. Too late for that. I floated, then I came down on it like a ton of bricks. And I'm staying for some time.

Nevertheless, I'll take up on your warning and handle with care anything Wicked hands me in the future. But I'm her brat, and we think along the same lines even if she doesn't hand it to me on a silver platter.

Well, that was interesting. Wicked, I don't think you give Heero enough credit. He may not show his few emotions often, but if you really pay attention to his actions, he expresses himself quite often, just in a very subtle way. I think Heero is a very expressed character. Ever hear the saying "Calm waters run deep"? Heero is kinda like that, also, its gives the writer a very broad base to take him in a story. And don't forget, there are so many different kinds of relationships. There is love, sex, friends, companions, etc. There are just so many different ways you can take the characters. Considering Heero is one of the only ones to meet all of the female characters for any real length of time, I think it makes things pretty plausible. As for Relena x male, I don't read many of these because its just not my taste.
