I normally look on google or ask my freinds in Osaka, but I haven't started collecting the Manga like I whanted to...is it diffrent then the series? So far the Manga has 11 volumes and the Series has 51 Episodes and out of the episodes I've missed episode 49 and 50.. looking forward to watching the final one, but there is somthing I must know I saw the end results of battle between Fuhrer and Roy, and Roy on the ground not moving...I thought he was dead, is that true?zapenstap wrote:*possible spoiler warning for this post*
Now that I'm all caught up on both the anime and the manga, I can add my two cents! Personally, I enjoyed both of them immensely and at this stage maybe the anime a little more just for the vocal and visual appeal.
I'm pleased that the anime is (so far) substantially different than the manga because otherwise I would probably feel that one was better than the other and then one would become less enjoyable (probably the anime). I like WATCHING the series more than reading it for the action and voices if nothing else (and color--that's nice too) so I'm pleased that they are still both good, but there is more going on in the manga technically, after a certain point anyway. But that is to be expected.
Some things are better explained in the manga than they are in the anime, though. For example, the homonculus in the manga seem to have different goals than they do in the anime, and also seem to have come about in a different way... and parts of the manga explanation and plot development make more sense than in the anime. The part about Al being worried about his memory in the anime is never explained thoroughly, for example, but it makes sense in the manga. Fortunately, the things that are not adequately explained in the anime (such as the little black creatures beyond the gate) are what inspire my desire to the read the manga, which is probably intentional.
However, I wouldn't say that the manga is vastly superior to the anime. I think there are enough similarities and differences that they are cohesive without one overshadowing the other and can be enjoyed independently. Also, I don't agree with whoever said that the relationships in the manga (particularly Ed and Al) are any deeper. I think they are about the same, although the different scenes reveal them differently. If anything, I would say that the female roles in the manga are the roles that are fleshed out a little more. We're a little more privy to Winry's thoughts and feelings because more time can be spent on her in the manga, which is also true of Hawkeye and some of the other minor characters.
And finally... I like the gate. I hope that the gate provides a similar "truth" in the manga, if maybe not in exactly the same way. I'd sure as hell like it to go /somewhere/, and the explanation for how alchemy works in the anime does make an intriguing sort of sense.
Now... I've read the manga up through chapter 51. Clearly, it is still going, but can anyone tell me when and where I go to find updates as new chapters are released and translated? How often do they come out?
Thanks!
Z

I'm not spoiling it for you.I found current releases of the manga scanslated actually and I'm sure there are places where you can download the anime. But you might as well just watch it on CN since episode 49 is playing this weekend. You'll be all caught up ^^
