uhmm... I just have one quickie question for you Heero...

I have this classmate in my World History class and he would sometimes make fun of freshmen (cause you know, we are new to the school), like me and my friends. I feel like I need to tell him to go away, but I don't want to sound rude or anything. Any ideas on how I can talk to him and tell him to stop because it's just mean?

I think it's the same concept as Vampires needing blood. Somewhere along those lines.

I always find it funny when Sophomores pick on Freshmen due to their class. Because that one year difference you know.... it's very... you know... difference...

The age gap between Seniors and Freshmen can usually cause a clash. Only because the amount someone matures and changes in the four high school years really can create a maturity difference. However, most Sophomores haven't matured enough to really create that gap. It sounds like your classmate is just looking for an excuse to feel bigger and more powerful. And I'm not sure about this... but isn't World history a Freshmen coarse? If so, he probably failed the first time around, and feels ashamed to have to do it over again with lower classmates. So he belittles everyone else to make him feel less ashamed.

But more than likely, he's just an arrogant prick.

PS: the teacher placed him in my History group for a project... how unfortunate... and he did give me a headache because he kept on arguing with another of my team member.

Dear Heero,

Sorry to bother you again, but I just really need advice for school problems (I admit, I'm new and still getting used to it)... okay, there's this another guy that is so annoying, not only to me, but to my other classmates and friends as well.

One time, when it was my birthday last week, I got this balloon from one of my friends and he tried to pop it... first of all, why would he do that? And then everyday, he would throw things at other people: paper or even gum! GUM! can you believe that? and a lot of times he would ask these very random questions that obviously anyone can answer! what do you think is this guy's problem?

HG, this other guy is desperately looking for attention and is more likely than not, wanting to be liked by his classmates but doesn't know how to go about it the right way. Trying to pop your balloon? He wants attention. Any kind will do.

He could also be jealous that others are happier than him or smarter or some other such thing. Insecurity makes people react in various manners. Some become introverted and shy while others become extroverted and others still become obnoxious. Approval is essential to these people but they don't know how to go about it. But this guy could also just be trying to find where he fits within the school and how he fits in himself. He may not be comfortable in his own skin (and really who is in high school?) and trying to figure that out. Maybe he feels different somehow and wants to compensate for that by acting in a manner he thinks is normal. It could be many things.

Also remember, guys mature at a slower rate than females (hence we throw rocks at them for being so stupid for so long in life). It's kinda normal for this period of a teenagers life.

It might be good to take into account the real reasons why acts the way he does. Whatever you do, don't pass judgement on the guy. He may end up just being a jerk through and through without cause, rhyme, or reason but then he might not. Either way you'll have to deal with him and it'd be better to deal with someone you understand than not.

I knew a girl in 7th grade that was loud, obnoxious and just an attention getter. I was not, and still aren't, that way. I've always been the quiet one. We were thrown into a group together during class. She knew I didn't like her and called me on it. We worked well together and we ended up friends throughout junior high. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

And remember, just because someone asks a question you think anyone can answer, there might be another person who wants to know too but is afraid to ask. That's one thing teachers, even at college levels, will urge you to do: ask questions. <s>Although admittedly some will say, "I expect you to know this already being at this level but you never know." It's there way of channeling Mr. Garrison from South Park and his "no stupid questions just stupid people" theory.</s>
