As for the "alternative" thing, though, as of the sequel and the writer's/director's recent interview, Athrun/Cagalli isn't canon; they're not together, and they've never been in love. So, if that's the issue, he's free now to join our Athrun/Lacus fanclub.

I wonder if we can get some Captain Chair Sexin' for this couple too?

But, if Lacus is the captain... Would she be the one commanding teh sexin?

Thank you for the compliment on the fic. As for being cold-hearted... I guess if that's what I have to be, I am. I see Kira as the type, though, that should go back to a normal life after the war and he'd find another gf.

Athrun, though, he and Lacus... I see a deeper connection between them. At the end of Seed, he and Lacus have both lost their families. They're all the other has left of the world they used to know.

Some people don't see it. Some people prefer the other, more popular pairings (KxL, AxC), and that's fine, too. I just...can only write about what I see and enjoy.

Interview with Morosawa (screenwriter for SEED and Destiny) in November's issue in Animage:

Q. We would like to hear what you have to say concerning the relationships in Gundam Seed Destiny.
A. Only Shinn and Lunamaria are truly in love. Kira and Lacus have already settled down (pass the "in love" stage), Athrun and Cagalli's love is a misunderstood love. It seems like Cagalli doesn't seem to like Athrun a great deal.

Q. But they do seem to care for each other.
A. It is true that Athrun is very gentle to Cagalli. But I think that's because he is someone very honest, someone who wanted to be a part of Cagalli's power, someone who wanted to help her, which resulted in his action (being gentle to Cagalli) naturally. But Cagalli has her country to care for, so she can't care for only Athrun.

Q. At the end, Cagalli chose Orb over Athrun.
A. I believe, if Cagalli can choose both Orb and Athrun, start over and learn to face Athrun again, then they may truly be able to become lovers. Of course, Athrun would have to work hard as well. Just staying by Cagalli's side and following her around won't work. Cagalli wishes to protect her country. That's why he has to step up to a position where he can lead the world to peace.

Q. You mean, a position that has equivalent powers to Cagalli?
A. Right. To an extreme, he can propose to her after he becomes the chairman of Plant. *laughs* If he can't do that, it'll be hard for Cagalli and him to have a peaceful/smooth relationship.



And here's the excerpt from Fukuda (director for SEED and Destiny) in December's issue in Animage:

Q. Finally, in last month's interview, Morosawa-san's "Athrun and Cagalli's love is a misunderstood love" statement had brought forth great reactions (from the fans). What is the director's opinion on this?
A. My opinion is the same as Morosawa's. If Cagalli is to choose between her country and lover, she is someone who will definitely choose her country. And Athrun has not reached to a position where he can overlook her country and protect Cagalli. And so, their love cannot be maintained in their current situation.

Q. So you're saying, the bond they have up until now is not love?
A. Rather than love, their relationship is more of a "comrades in arms" relationship. Though they blushed when they kissed, but that's because of embarrassment/shyness and uncertainty. It is not a mature feeling of love.
