Just What I needed

[Nights Red Rose]

The funeral was lavish. Hundreds of flowers (all white roses) and people (all in black) came to see it and pay their respects.

"This is wrong," Duo said quietly.

"What?" Relena looked at him. Duo fumbled with his tie before Relena came foward and tied it for him.

"He wouldn't want all this, he would want a hero's death, not some prissy funeral."

"Duo I wouldn't call a 21 gun salute, 500 white roses, 100 candles and hundreds of important people coming to mourn you 'some prissy funeral'," Relena scolded gently finishing the tie.

Duo didn't say anything.

No-one said anything until it was time for Relena to make a speech.

She stood by Heero's closed casket, barely visible under the hundreds of white roses all over it.

"Heero Yuy was a true leader, he was assasinated years ago. The man in the grave before you took Heero's name, but he was a true leader as well. Fighting for peace alongside countless others, Heero led the way to peace between the colonies and earth. When I first met Heero Yuy, his favorite phrase was 'I will kill you'. As time went on, he learned he was not just a soilder but something more. He became a true friend and his life touched countless others. In private, Heero once told me 'I cannot imagine dying today because I want to be part of tommorrow'. Heero Yuy, I promise you that you will be part of many tommorow's to come," Relena finished and walked down the podium.

Duo got on it next.

"Heero Yuy was a piece of work. When any of us first met him he never smiled, there was speculation he wasn't human. As time went on, like Vice Forgien Minister Peacecraft said, he learned. Heero learned to separate the man from the solider. So, as his friend I ask you all, do not remember his death but rather his life, don't remember his failures but rather his accomplishments, don't remember the soilder, remember the person. Because Heero, you weren't just a soilder, you were a true friend. You will be missed, but you will be part of tommorrow," Duo said.

The rest of the funeral finished. There were no terrorist attacks or world threats (but then again, everyone knew that if they did anything to stop the funeral they would have to deal with the evil-older-brother-from-hell aka Millardo Peacecraft).

Soon it was night fall and everyone was gone except for Relena.

"I suppose this is my goodbye to you," she said softly walking foward.

In her hand was a small boat. In it was a lit candle that was protected from the wind by a small paper structure on the boat.

"I can't imagine life without you Heero, but then again, I never imagined life as the Vice Forgien Minister, I never imagined a lot of things and I learned to live with them and I will learn to live with this. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine," she said softly.

Relena placed the boat on the lake and gently pushed it foward. The boat moved down the lake and dissapeared into the night, it's light flickering cheerfully against the blackness.

Relena turned and walked back to her house.

That night she slept without nightmares and dreams of Heero.

Heero is not allowed to die...it's sacreligious...When he dies it usually means Relena moves on...with another pilot...and that scares me, considering it's in the Heero/Relena Pairing section...Heero best get his ass outta heaven and back in that fine ass body of his or I'll have something to say about it! Lol

Great story so far, and I seriously hope things start looking up for 'Lena.

Relena sighed and ran a hand through her hair, then turned back to her work.

She was right, life went on and she was adjusting.

It was odd not to imagine him standing over her shoulder or jumping through the window. Relena smiled slightly and rested her chin on her hand.

"Hello Miss Relena."

Relena looked up to see Midii Une standing in the doorway.

"Midii, please come in," she said smiling warmly.

Anyone who could get Trowa to smile and talk was a saint in her (and practically everyone elses) opinion.

"Miss Relena," she bit her lip, "Everyones a little worried about you," she said finally.

"Worried about me?" Relena asked, "Oh not about--"

"You don't seem that troubled and they are worried you're going to kill yourself or something," Midii said quickly.

"Midii," Relena smiled, "It's not that I'm not sad about Heero's death, I am. But I am not going to die because he did. I've done much that I never thought I could do," she paused, "I survived and I adjusted. I am going to survive this," she said finally.

"Glad to hear it," Midii said, "The others will be too."

"Midii, how do you know Trowa?" Relena asked curiously, "I don't mean to intrude--"

"No it's fine," Midii said quickly, "I knew him when he was in the mercenaries. I was with the Alliance to destroy them so I could save my father and brothers. I did betray them but Trowa took me away from the fighting. We did not part on good terms," she said whistfully, "But seeing him again, it just felt right. Now that we've made peace with it, I hope we can move on."

"I'm sure you will," Relena said, "I've never seen him open up to someone like he does for you."

Midii blushed but smiled.

"Midii," Midii looked up as Lady Une came inside, "May I talk to you?"

"Yes," Midii stood up and looked at Relena, "It was nice talking to you Miss Relena."

"You too," Relena said and waved slightly as Midii and Lady Une left her office.



'How did I get forced into doing this?' Millardo thought furiously as he blocked another punch easily.

"You're pushing yourself too hard," he said cooly earning a very patronizing stare from his sparring partner, which he promptly returned.

"You two! Stop this instant!" barked Lady Une coming inside, "You're going to kill each other!"

Both of them merely gave her a glance of slight disgust.

"Don't look at me like that," she snapped, "You need to train, not kill each other!"

"Fine woman," Wulfie said standing back, "This isn't over Peacecraft, we'll continue this later."

Millardo just rolled his eyes and walked off.

Lady Une muttered something under her breath and looked out the window.



Midii was shocked to say the least. She hadn't seen anyone run this fast--except for her. Midii was breathing hard but her ego wouldn't let her stop.

"Looks like Peacecraft and Chang have stopped their 'duel'," Midii commented dryly, keeping her voice level, even through she felt like she was going to pass out.

Her partner didn't respond....how typical.

"Hello? Anyone there?"

He looked at the window and a flicker of something passed in his eyes.

"God give me strength, I'm going to kill Aunt when I get back," Midii muttered under her breath and ran to keep up with him.

Trowa ran through the door with Midii right behind him.

"You're a fast runner," Midii commented dryly.

"You're not so slow yourself," Trowa said cooly.

"I'm so out of shape," Midii muttered, "I haven't been fighting since I was a little girl."

"I would think raising three brothers would keep you in pretty good shape."

PREVENTER'S HEADQUARTERS

Lady Une's shoes clicked against the floor, her footsteps echoed off the walls of the hallway.

"Tell me how this happened Nion," she said tensely.

"We don't know Lady Une," Lucrezia said, trying to keep the bite out of her voice.

"There's a conference in room 5, been there in twenty minuets."

"Yes ma'm," Lucrezia said saluting Lady Une.

In the Conference Room, 30 minuets later.

"Alright, does someone want to explain how the hell did we not know about this," Lady Une asked after the mission briefing.

"Millardo?" Lucrezia asked gently.

"They didn't mention anything," he said firmly.

"Are you sure Peacecraft?" Lady Une asked.

"Very," Millardo said evenly and Lucrezia winced slightly writing a mental note to alert the housekeeping staff and put them on standby.

"Midii did you find anything?" Lady Une asked.

Midii nodded.

"I found this," she said and passed her a folder.

Lady Une opened it and looked through the documents inside. She closed her eyes briefly, feeling much older than she was.

"Is this information credible?" Lady Une asked.

"Yes."

"Very well, thank you Midii," Une said, "Trowa, I need you to take a buisness trip to L3, Colonie Inteligence needs to know about this."

Trowa nodded.

"Midii, go with him."

"Yes Aunt."

"Both of you are dismissed, the private shuttle will be ready in half an hour and I expect you on it. I will alert L3 of your coming."

They both got up and left to prepare.

"As for the rest of you, be on stanby for when I need you. Nion brief the Vice Forgien Minister."

Lucrezia nodded and left.

Soon the conference room was empty.
