Relena stood out on her balcony watching the full moon cast a serene light over the garden. It had been forty years since the war and was now only one week before the funeral. Still, here she was missing him. She had thought she had accepted that he would always be a part of her. Maybe it was the guilt she had felt for moving on, but it was not enough, she thought, as she stared at the ring she had worn for twenty years. The week after his death had been miserable. Everyone that had known of things between them had constantly been asking her if she was okay. They never gave her the chance to pretend that he was still alive.
She wiped away that single tear that had always flown for him. A question that she had spent days trying to figure out was once again taking all of her attention. All of the questions that had been second to everything in her life now shown in her mind as the glowing moon. Had there ever been a future for them beyond people seeking peace? Would he have been happy with her? Would he have been strong enough to be the perfect solider as well as the man she loved? She knows she will never find the answer, but the questions would always be repeated.
Relena closed her eyes and took a deep breath, finally feeling the chill. Her mind once again drifting to the part of him that had made him whole: the perfect solider. The peace he had fought for was now so familiar that many forgot the reason why the war had ever been fought. Even in death he gave her the strength to obtain the peace which both the earth and the colonies sought. It did not take as long as she had thought it would. There were a few that actually were trying to stop peace from happening. Although they did not get far, for the rest of the Gundam pilots were there to help her. It was a good fight, a long fight, but it was finally over. Allowing herself one more moment before he disappeared from her thoughts, she blew a kiss towards the sky. ?Thank you, Heero.?
PS: I was wondering what would happen if Heero didn't survive the destruction of Libra/Peacemillion and end up with this. I also find it funny that the title began with "One" since my other story have the same thing.
