The Wrong Guy
Chapter Three
They rode the elevator to the bottom floor, Heero using his anger to keep his mind off of Riena. They were greeted by some boy in a uniform. He handed Relena a flower and, blushing, led them outside. It was evening and the low light gave a romantic effect to the party outside.
There was a long table to one side filled with bright and exotic looking foods. There were a few chairs and tables in this area as well. ON the other side was a low stage where music was being played and Hawaiian dancers were dancing. Many of the guests had already began dancing with each other to the slow song. The entire place was lit but large torches that, he was sure, doubled as anti-bait for bugs. Relena turned to say something to Heero but he had moved over to the food table. He did not want her to ask him to dance.
Heero looked at the food but grabbed nothing; he wasn?t really hungry. He looked around again and noticed a bar set up at the end. He walked over to it and sat down. ?Whiskey,? he said automatically, he needed something strong and painful.
Relena sat down next to him gracefully, her eyes, violet in the torchlight, stared at him. ?What is wrong Heero? You?re almost what I would call moody. I?ll have the same,? she said to the bartender when he handed Heero his drink. Heero looked at her with slight surprise.
?You drink whiskey, Mrs. Hemingway?? he asked, he voices almost failing at her last name. He took a small sip of his drink as he watched her.
When the bartender handed Relena her drink she winked and downed the entire thing. Afterwards she slammed down the glass and smacked her lips. ?Please, you know what I have been through. This is nothing. Another, for both of us when he is done,? she had turned her attention to the barkeep for a moment.
?Heero, I do not wish to be here alone. So, until my husband,? she said this angrily, ?arrives you will be my substitute date. Alright??
Heero finished his drink and stared at her as the man refilled their glasses. ?Do I have a choice??
Relena smiled. ?No, you don?t. So, after this drink we are going to dance. And I know you are a good dancer,? she smiled and downed her drink again. She stood up quickly and smiled at him with her hands on her hips.
Heero downed his as well and left some money on the bar. He stood up and followed her out to the dance floor. The liquor had not effected him, yet, but Relena looked a little tipsy. After all, she was just one little person and the alcohol would go through her quickly. The music behind them was fast paced and Relena danced to it. Swaying her hips and raising her hands above her head as she looked up at Heero.
Heero was unsure of what to do and just stood there. Relena laughed and put her arms around his neck. ?Ok, Heero, this is Dance 101. Move your hips,? she smiled.
Heero fought of the emotions and feeling that shot through him and did as she asked, and he was actually pretty good. Relena danced with him, pressing her body up against his. Heero held one hand around her waist and the other on her back, but they did not push her. She moved close to him on her own. She winked as she slid down and came back up, her face in a mock pout.
Oh god? Heero thought as she slid against him. He shook his head and stepped back from her. He turned and left her stunned on the floor, but another partner soon grabbed her up and she began dancing with him. Heero walked over to the bar and ordered another drink. The only way he would make it through tonight was drunk. What the hell is she doing to me? He threw his head back and drank the third of several glasses he was going to have tonight.
Relena ignored the fact that Heero had left her, suppressing her anger at him, and danced with another very attractive man. There was not shortage of handsome men in her life, they always seemed to be around her. After dancing with him he offered her a drink and she accepted. They sat down at a table with wine in each of their glasses.
Heero watched this as he drank but did nothing. Relena glanced over at him but then turned her attention back to the man and began to talk and laugh with him. She was obviously flirting, and doing it to bother Heero. Relena and the man were able to finish of several glasses of wine before Relena seemed to get drunk. The man wasn?t and decided that this was his chance. But just as he began leading Relena back to the hotel Heero stood up, a little unsteady, and marched over to them.
He shot a warning glance at the man who glared back. ?Excuse me, but we were just leaving,? the man growled.
?I don?t think so. This woman came with me,? Heero shot back, despite his drunkenness his speech was dangerously in control and low.
?Please, go and bother someone else,? the man tried to walk away with Relena on his arm but Heero grabbed the back of his shirt. For a second Damian?s face flashed through his mind when the man turned around, and a second was all Heero needed. He punched the man in the face, sending him flying. Heero quickly pulled himself and Relena back inside the hotel before anyone noticed them.
They made it to the elavator before Relena spoke up. She hit his chest. ?What the hell was that?? she asked angrily.
?I was protecting you? it?s my job,? he said slowly, trying to keep a hold on his actions. His face was flushed from the alcohol, or so he thought.
When the elevator opened Relena rushed out with Heero behind her. She fumbled for the keys to open her door until Heero grabbed them from her.
?I do not need your help!? she yelled at him, he own face red.
?Apparently you do. Why did you have to go and get drunk Relena!?? he said gruffly as he opened the door.
?I am not drunk!? she turned and walked into the room.
Heero followed her and slammed the door. Relena looked back at him. ?Why the hell are you bothering me now? Haven?t you done enough??
She sat down on her bed, wellmore like fell back against it. Heero stared at her angrily. ?What have I done my whole life except protect you!? I have made sure that you have survived every single threat, every single pain. You would be dead without me!?
Relena stood up and glared at him. ?Until you left! Oh damn it Heero, who asked you to be my guardian??
Heero opened his mouth but paused. Until I left? ?Your damn brother asked me to protect you and you practically begged me to stay with you!? he took a step forward, the past five years pouring from his mouth. All the emotion he had been hiding, storing behind his iron fa?ade, was erupting. He was human, despite his efforts to deny it, and he was having a fit.
Relena balled her hands into fists at the memory. ?How dare you bring that up! I was in love with you! I am so glad that I am over that you robot!? she growled, shouting at him with all her might. Heero?s hands balled as well and he automatically cracked his knuckles.
?Over me? Then what the hell was that dance about? Or are you just a slut whenever your husband is off on a job?? Heero didn?t mean it, but he just wanted to hurt her, reflect the pain she had caused him the past few years.
Relena quickly stepped forward to slap him, but she couldn?t surpass his soldier reflexes. Heero grabbed her hand and stared down at her, their faces inches apart.
?Let go of me,? she said icily, her mind swimming in alcohol.
Heero looked down at her, his features angry but his words were softer, although somewhat forced. ?Did you mean that??
Relena tried to pull away but he would not let go. ?Mean what? Get off of me? Well is certainly?? Heero shook his head.
Heero?s gaze softened, sending mixed emotions through Relena. ?No, about not loving me anymore,?
Relena looked up at him, her anger slipping to fright. No? just say no. I am married to?to? but she could not remember her husband?s name.
Heero saw it in her eyes before she could say it. Without releasing her hand he put his other hand on the back of her head and leaned down to her. Heero?s matched Relena?s unsure expression, he was just as scared. He closed his eyes and gently kissed her, his lips were soft and relaxed as soon as she returned the kiss.
Relena leaned against him, kissing him deeper. But Heero pulled back, his old restraint coming back. ?No? we can?t. You are? married? he took a step back. Relena looked up at him, slightly hurt.
But anger flooded her gaze. ?You are not going to do this to me again! Why must you toy with me you bastard! Get out!? she screamed as she pounded his chest with her fists.
Heero grabbed her around the waist with one hand and used the other on her neck to pull her back into another kiss, although this one was much more passionate. Their lips caressed each other?s as their tongues entwined.
Heero began traveling kisses down her cheek to her neck. ?I won?t hurt you again, Relena. I promise,? he said between kisses. Relena closed her eyes and rested her hand in his hair as he kissed her.
She stepped back, pulling them towards the bed. Heero followed her lead and pushed her back onto the bed. His large, built body hung over hers as he pulled back and looked down at her, his hands by her face.
A silent promise was spoken between them and Heero bent down to kiss her again. Her hands moved to his shirt as she began to unbutton it. Finally? they both sighed inwardly.
