AN: I thought I’d try my hand at poetry for a while. I’m jealous of some authors, they write so well! Angel222, Lady Casper, Anshino and my friend Sophia are by far my fav authors! FLC9 would be one too…if she still wrote…but she’s long since retired, but I just love their style. It has a simplicity all its own and yet more an even adverse contrast! You’re hooked right when you start reading!
The Old One
By Egg Drop Soup
She stands alone in the dust hills of the never-ending desert,
Alone, but not yet driven with the sadness of it.
She bellows loudly as reality finally tells her that that her herd has deserted her.
To old to roam with the other horses,
Or to keep the weary pace of the herd,
She finds herself limping, ever reminded by the weariness of old age.
Not stopping,
But yet always trying to ride faster.
Her bones no longer young,
But, coated with experience of old twisted trails,
And adventures of the past life.
She hopes her children and the generations to come,
Will be ever plentiful,
And hoping the descendants of her herd will not forget her.
But how can they forget their leader,
The one who led them on their many unpaved roads and trails?
Closer now the darkness closes in on her weariness.
Somewhere in the darkness a foal is born,
And it clings to its mother’s body, wanting to return to the dark warm place it came from.
The old mare heard the distant bellowing,
Of her own children’s cries from afar.
Her ears prick upward and her head bobs lightly as she finds it harder to stay awake,
She finally sleeps in eternal happiness of the moonlight.
The other horses bellow louder,
As if thinking she can hear them,
In the quiet solitude of the never ending sleep.
But the horses never forgot the old mare first and oldest to live of their kind,
She will live in their hearts forever till the end of time. But yet the wills never know the meaning and sorrow of death till it is their turn to yield the ride.
A herds gentle cry,
The ordain of their sadness,
But yet the old one is happy,
In the pleasures ride of her never ending dreams.
AN: When I reread this, it often leaves me with mixed feelings…Thanks to all whom read and review. You can find this and other poems of mine at fictionpress.com.

All my works, whether they are original or fanfics, are all dedicated to the memory of Francis. She was a brilliant author who could have changed the ideals of all literature works worldwide, her talent was that great…and this year on September 26th would be celebrating her 17 birthday.[/img]
