Chapter 2: Into the Future
Inuyasha and Kagome went to Kaede's and discussed the matter of the lost jewel with her. Shippo was there as well. It was already afternoon. Inuyasha could get back between the two times back and forth, but not Kagome. She could go back now to her present times, but needed the jewel to come back to the Feudal Era.
Inuyasha and Kagome had only one question to ask. Kagome spoke up. "Kaede, is there any way to get back here without the jewel?"
The old woman shook her head. "Not that I know of, dear. The way you come here is the way you come here."
The two thanked Kaede.
They went back to the same place where they encountered Gauln, not saying a word. Kagome sat against the same tree that Inuyasha rested at last night. She broke down and sobbed.
Inuyasha did not know what made Kagome suddenly cried. She was all right when they walked back here from Kaede's place. Women!
Inuyasha instinctively wrapped his arms around her. Kagome, feeling his arms, wriggled into his embrace. She clung to his chest and continued to sob. "I'm sorry, Inuyasha, I'm sorry......"
"It's all right, Kagome. What is wrong?"
"I did not protect the jewel, Inuyasha, and now it is lost again. It is all my fault......now the jewel is lost again......"
Inuyasha knew that this turn of events just simply overwhelmed her and threw her into despair. They had worked so hard to find all the fragments after all. Unconsciously he hugged her tighter and stroked her hair. He was sensitive enough to know that Kagome needed his support the most right now. He decided it was definitely not the best time for shouting. He tried to as gentle as possible. "It is not your fault, Kagome. I am to blame too. I did not protect you from that guy. I am to blame, Kagome."
Kagome only shook her head. They stayed that way for a while. Kagome continued to sob while Inuyasha patiently waited for the girl in his arms to stop crying. It pained him to see her in such a frail state.
Finally Kagome stopped crying. Inuyasha took his hand and hold Kagome's chin up so that she was looking up at him. "Look, Kagome, it's not your damn fault, so stop thinking that it is! Besides, our new task at hand is to retrieve the jewel again. Got it? I can't get it done with my jewel spotter crying her head out."
Inuyasha put his head against hers. "You are more important than the damn jewel, OK? I did not want to lose you to that bastard. Without the jewel the worst will be that I will stay in my half-demon half-human state. Without you, though, I will be given another heartbreak to deal with that could be even worse than Kikyou. Besides, we can always look for ways to retrieve the jewel. But if you are dead, I can't raise you back alive! Got it!?"
The words just spilled out. Even Inuyasha did not realize it until a few moments after he said them. Perhaps these were his true feelings all along......
Kagome looked up at his face. She then brought her arms around his neck, head against his chest. "Can we stayed like this......for a while?"
He nodded
"Thank you, Inuyasha." There was a smile on her face. They stayed like this for about 10 minutes. Kagome did not want to leave his arms, but knew she had to. She gently pulled herself away from him.
"I didn't know you can be so gentle, Inuyasha."
Inuyasha was back to business after seeing her regain some of her cool, but he was blushing. "Yeah, whatever. After a while I do want to find a way to get to the future to get that bastard and the jewel."
Kagome nodded and smiled again. For the first time, she did not feel despair anymore.
They then tried to think of anything that could help Kagome be able to access the two times back and forth again. Nil.
She walked to the well trying to think of something. She tripped and fell in the well.
Silence.
"Kagome!"
Inuyasha jumped down as well, carrying her bike and belongings along. He found Kagome holding her rump in pain. Inuyasha slapped his hand against his forehead. "You stupid moron!"
The hanyou calmed down. "Look, it doesn't matter now, Kagome. Let's get to your house first and then we will talk. We WILL have to find the jewel now."
---------------------------------------------------------------
"Looks like your time machine still needs some fine-tuning, doctor. Especially after I got out of that well and the portal remained."
Gauln got back to his headquarters with the jewel soon after arriving back into the present times.
"Yes, Mr. Gauln. It is still very much in the experimental process." The doctor looked into the monitor indicating the presence of the portal as well as the view of the surroundings captured by a camera naerby and started typing furiously. "It is fixed, mister."
"Close it before someone find it suspicious. Do it NOW." His tone is ominous. The doctor quickly complied. He did not want HIS head to be on Gauln's head-shelves.
Gauln walked out of the room, but not before he shot the doctor's brains out. Too bad. His head would be on the shelf. "Worthless."
However, if the doctor was still alive, he would have caught sight of a dog-like boy and a human girl exiting the well just before the portal closed and be able to report it to Gauln.

Note: The only thing that can be grammaticaly wrong are the tenses. But I think it will not make reading this thing difficult. It WILL be that way for the rest of the story, however, since I'm too lazy. Forgive.

Seemed that I made a boo-boo before, but now it's corrected.
