The Way Things Change {Prolog}

Disclamer: I don?t own Full Metal Panic and unless a sudden shift in the management of ADV, it is likely that I never will.


AN: I have a miniscule amount of self esteem (the upshot of this being a small ego). In accordance to this I will post this prolog and if enough people like it I will continue. Please post what you really feel, I don?t want to mentally injure someone with my writing just because someone else doesn?t want to hurt my feelings. Without further ado I present The Way Things Change.

?Fifteen high velocity screws confirmed. Locations: 3, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, 132, 144, 156, and 168 degrees.? The helmsman sounded more then a little tense. It was understandable; 15 torpedoes don?t normally spontaneously appear in the middle of open sees.

Even we don?t have the power to avoid all of these without a little help.

?HARD RIGHT TO STARBOARD, 20 DEGREE?S DOWN BALLAST? Captain Teletha Tesstarosa shout could be heard even through the soundproof doors. Even the ever calm captain seemed to be at a loss as to what to do.

?Captain it?s too late, there?s no way.? The helmsman said, stressing each syllable even as he wrestled with the bilateral control.

?Twenty clicks, nineteen, eighteen??

There?s only one choice left open to me. I can only pray that we do not al have to pay the price for my failure.

?At ten clicks activate the bipolar interference wave.? Tessa?s voice had gone completely numb and cold.

Enough room to still get away after the blast, if we still can.

?But ma?am! That system is??

?That?s an order.?

The helmsman continued the countdown, ?Fifteen, fourteen, thirteen, eleven, ten.?

?Now? Commander Mardukas took the lead knowing full well that he would suffer sever penalty later for his choice.

At first there was nothing, then the entire warship was shook by an explosion that seemed to come from all sides. Less then a second later DAINA came to life, ?Premature detonation of all torpedoes confirmed.? Then right on top of that, ?Internal damage on hanger one, palladium reactor malfunction, door locks in fore quadrant A inactive, flooding in engine room one.?

?Daina, can we move??

?No, madam captain, all drives are inactive. Chance of repair with current equipment 5.286 percent?

Tessa looked down at her feet for a moment as if undecided. ?Commander Mardukas, load the escape casuals, prepare to abandon the Tuatha de Donnan.?

?Yes Madam Captain,? his voice also held a gravely resigned tone.

I?m through, I can?t stand it another instant. I need to think of a way to get that baka to leave me alone. Just for a few seconds.

Kaname?s head flew up as she had an idea; it was brilliant in its simplicity.

?Would you like to tell the class about LaGrangean theory Miss Chidori, since you seem so eager.? Sporadic chuckles ran through the class, everyone knowing that she hadn?t been paying any attention to the particularly boring discussion on the gravitational pulls of the sun and earth on each other. Not that anyone had for that matter. The general assumption was that the almighty class rep. had been day dreaming about a certain destruction prone boy; who was at that minute the only one actually paying attention to the lecture. He was even taking notes on a small pad of paper that always seemed to materialize whenever something of ?importance? was being discussed.

?Actually, I would like to ask to go to the bathroom please.?

?I suppose. Go ahead.?

Sousuke, who had been following the conversation for the sole reason that his charge may need his assistance, called out, ?I will accompany her.?

Now the laughter was full out as the class erupted into a roar of noise.

?You most certainly will not.? The teacher sounded horrified at even the suggestion.

Perfect.

That contented thought was the only thing going through her mind as she went into the hall. Sousuke had been particularly bad for the last couple of days. It really wasn?t his fault; during a routine drugs/weapons check on the school property a gun was found in the locker of a newly transferred student. He had gone berserk and tried to shoot some of the students. Unfortunately for him, his choice of buildings to make his point in was poor. Sousuke had made short work of him. Since then Sousuke had become worse and worse. It still baffled Kaname how Sousuke got his extensive weapon collections through those tests.

Must have something to do with a curtain super secret organization and some money changing hands.

Kaname?s freedom had a time limit and she knew it. Soon, she would have to return to class. She had no idea what surprise was waiting there for her.

?Thank you, for rejoining us Miss Chidori. Now that we have everyone, I have an announcement. We have a new student with us today. What is your name miss?? An unsettlingly familiar pair of silver eyes and hair appeared through the door.

?Please just call me Teletha.?

Kaname spared a glare at Sousuke for keeping this a secret, only to see him doing an excellent impression of a ghost. He had gone completely white. He... didn?t know.


AN: I must admit that I have not had the opportunity to read the manga or see the second season (Although I really want to). So I apologize if this is a repeat of a theme in one of those things. However this is a theme of my own creation, any correlation between this and something from the show is purely coincidental. I also appologize for the size. Subsequent chapters will likely be longer.

I's really sorry, I was hopeing to come out with the next chapter before I left but I am going to be away from a computer for the next week. I will be continueing this story though. In addition, as I have been told something similar to this plot takes place in the manga (I think). So I have decided to not read the manga until I am done in order to not be influinced in my writing. Again, I apologize in advance for the long wait.
