Pressed in a book (drabble)
I have returned! I've been busy with school, as everyone else is, but I have been writing. A LOT actually. But I fell into a deep writer's block, so I wrote a little drabble to get myself out of it. Needless to say, it worked!
Title: Pressed in a book
Author: Athena
Rating: PG
Summary: Based on an official picutre, Relena and Heero read underneath a tree.
Words: 390
She reached out and caught a blossom that had been captured by the breeze. The rough tree roots dug into her back, and soft green grass tickled her bare feet. Digging her toes in the cold dirt, she smiled and let the rays of sunlight rest on her upturned face.
The book in her lap lay forgotten for the moment. The world had picked her up by the senses and had no plans to let go. She breathed in the sweet air and her nose picked up the smells of saccharine petals. She lived for these moments, when she could forget that she had anything to do and just watch the white clouds float by.
Light footsteps at her side did not surprise her. She had not been expecting company, but she felt that she might be disappointed if he had not shown up. Her smile widened and her blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight. Picking up the book, she pretended to busy herself with the words on the page, even though she knew perfectly well he would see through it.
She caught a sidelong view of him as he eased himself against the tree next to her. His breathing quiet, she could barely notice his presence, but the soft, enticing smell of his cologne gave him away. She brushed away a few blonde fringes, and kept her eyes on the book.
It was a game that they played. Nothing spoken, of course, because he was never one for words and she used too many. But as he sat near her, she felt safe and comfortable. He?d flip open his own book, something about peace, or war, usually. Then he?d allow her to slip a few inches closer. Just enough to brush arms, or shoulders.
His rough fingers slipped through her smooth one?s, and her heartbeat quickened. His subtle strokes and touches are not lost on her, and she felt herself melting. She touches the inside of his palm, slowly and cautiously, and finally dredged up enough nerve to look at hm.
He smiled at her from behind dark blue eyes and the nervous haze she?d felt herself drowning lifts. Leaning into his shoulder, Relena rested her head and closed her eyes. Heero placed his head on top of hers and both sets of fingers are hopelessly entwined, books completley forgotten.

Thanks for reading! I'd love it if you'd leave a review.

We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing - Beyond the Sea

You know, this little drabble just made me feel all warm... like I was brought into their bubble of seclusion. You described things really well, and I could feel their tension melting away.
Awesome!

The clarity of the hindsight we obtain from a new day may be 20/20, but it provides us with biased knowledge of the experiences and emotions that were-- Not what could have been, if only we had the chance to look through those premonitory eyes.
