chasing high tides 1/?
Inuyasha lay on an old tree trunk of the tree he formally was pinned to for so very long. It was odd, he hated this tree greatly, it's trunks reeked of his own scent.
He stared off into the distance, not paying any attention to the surrounding world, as he did from time to time. "What's it matter..." he began to mumble to himself, "if I exist or not?"
Though he hated this tree with every fiber within his body, he also enjoyed its company. Though only a tree, it seemed to be like a penpal he had that he spoke to mentally. It felt his pain, his sorrow, and sometimes even his joy.
A small storm of dust flew upward as the teenage girl plopped her heavy backpack on the ground just outside the old, dried well. She sighed he herself in annoyance as she started to trek down a long, windy trail to find the dog boy.
She must not?ve seen me up here? he thought jokingly to himself. He exhaled greatly before dropping onto the ground, only mere inches from Kagome. She responded with a loud shriek and an involuntary ?SIT!?
Inuyasha was forcefully slung to the ground with an immense deal of gravity. His face now caked with mud, he glanced up at Kagome to exclaim ?What was that for!??
Kagome softly giggled to herself as she helped Inuyasha stand upright. ?Sorry about that, Inuyasha, I?ve just been really tense lately.? She said as she hefted the large yellow backpack onto her shoulders.
?I can tell?? Inuyasha mumbled to himself, catching an even greater concentration of Kagome?s fresh scent. He flung the mud from his face with a forceful wipe of his firerat haori and began his usual argumentation session with Kagome.
?Did you bring the Ramen? And the shards!??
?Power and food, is that all you think about??
?Well there?s things you don?t know about me! You just don?t understand! Now did you, or didn?t you bring the stuff!??
Kagome exhaled a deep sigh ?Yeah, it?s all in the bag.?
Kagome, though deep down she was thrilled to have these exhausting arguments with Inuyasha because she knew he cared, acted on the outside as if she were hurt by his rude behavior. She retrieved a small package of Ramanien noodles from the side pocket of her backpack and handed it to Inuyasha.
?RAW!?? he exclaimed in disbelief.
Kagome, now with a look of mere disgust on her face, took a slow breath before stating ?It?s cooked, it?s just not softened with hot water. You can eat it, and just down the little packet too.?
Inuyasha snarled as he ripped the packaging open and began chewing on the hard, dry noodles. An eerie silence befell them for several moments as he took his time to carefully chew the potentially tasteless noodles.
Kagome finally broke the silence as she looked up at Inuyasha. ?How?d you know how I?ve been feeling if I?ve been gone for three days, anyway? You been spying on me again, you ecchi jiji!??
Inuyasha choked on a mouthful of noodles as he heard the girl call him a ?dirty old man?. Quickly, he searched the lining of Kagome?s backpack for a bottle of Lemon-Lime flavored Ramune. He quickly fondled with the top, found the marble incredibly tight in the bottle, and decided to break the glass instead. He quickly sucked the sweet liquid.
?It?s your SHAMPOO!? he yelled as he struggled to swallow the contents lodged in his throat.
?My shampoo??
Inuyasha immediately responded with a loud belch. Kagome smacked him over the head with her biology textbook.
?Yeah, your shampoo. When you feel happy, you use spring rain, depressed or sad is coconut, and when you go into heat, you use strawberry. I can smell it really keenly!? he said as he started to laugh.
Kagome joined in the laughing. Why not? It was the first time she?d even seen him laugh?
?Inuyasha?? she began to ask. He replied only by turning his head, ending the laughter.
?hmm? What is it!??
?W?would you like to go on?? vacation? with me? and my family.?
Inuyasha was shocked. First off, what was a vacation? And secondly, he had never been invited to anything. But he figured whatever it was, there had to be food.
?Sure? I guess? he replied

I like it -- classic start with Kagome returning from the human world and Inuyasha waiting around by the tree. I like the description of how his emotions connect to it (I honestly think he'd cry if something happened to it!) and how Kagome knew just where he was.
A couple of things . . . raw ramen must taste like ass, but Inuyasha can probably chew it. Maybe she's trying to turn him off it?
I don't think Kagome has ever called Inuyasha "old man," and I'm not sure it's really in character. She's never viewed him as anything but a peer, as someone her own age. She's always thought of him as a "boy" and not someone significantly over, even if he is at least 50-100 years old. And if she did view him as an elder, she'd have a lot more respect for him. (Look at how she treats Kaede.) That's the only bit that seemed off to me.
I'm assuming this is a pre-Shippou adventure, or is he off someplace else? This sort of scene seems very early in their relationship, so having it before Shippou was introduced works very well.
I'm looking forward to chapter two. What sort of vacation are they going on? (Skiing? The ocean? Out of the country? Osaka or Okinawa or Hokkaido or Hawaii?) Please write more soon!

hmm... I guess it doesn't make much sense that she called him an "old man".. but I think I read in a manga where a girl called a guy that.. and I think he was younger than she was too... hmm... I'll look into that...
I have a few off-topic ideas for Shippou... and it's set in the pre-Miroku and Sango time...
as for the vacation, you'll just have to wait to find out
