What do you think is the best way to restrict access to sexually explicit content on the forums?

Find the html or java code to rate the site as Mature so that parental control software can block the site. (Thank you Adaon for this info)

I can sympathize with you Rose, and i can see where the parent comes from. In my own opinion i don't think you dhould be the one required to do anything here. This is a public hang out really. People come here to show off their stuff. People come here to read said stuff. As was mentioned before, it's not your fault the parents can't trust their kids, or that the kids aren't trust worthy. I pretty much agree with everything Mizaya said and
I have discussed at length and defended this site's content to the parent. Most of us are far older than the user that was on this site, and though I don't think it'll scar anyone for life reading lemons at 13, that's why things are marked.

I KNOW it is possible to read labels and avoid things you don't feel comfortable reading. I do it all the time with GW yaoi fics, no offense to yaoi fans, but reading graphic yaoi does make me feel uncomfortable. So, when I see something labeled "lemon, yaoi" i know not to click on it. I don't see that that takes a lot of effort. Now, if the user WANTS to read it and their parents do not, well, I can't blame the parents when the user is so young. But I can't see taking down the content because one user can't be trusted by his/her parents.

On another note how long has this site been restriction free? And if a kid really wants to see/read/go somewhere they will do it anyway, and they will find ways around blocks. Is it really fair that you, Rose, and people that have been with this site for years have to deal with restrictions and blocking and all the pain in the rear stuff because parents either can't/won't stop what their child reads, or are just too picky as to what is aloud. And even if you restrict this site their are hundreds of other that could provide as an alternative to coming here.

all right, i think i covered everythingi wanted to cover. ^_^ :-P

Perhaps some sort of age thingy might be a good idea on Club Beer? :-?

That would be a good idea, considering that the initial problem may have started from there. I think that as a result of that topic coming into existence in the off-topic, the girl thought it was okay to go ahead and do the kinds of things that upset her parents. I don't really know, but that's my guess anyway. Regardless, some restricting would be good in terms of keeping the parents happy, but then again, we can't make everyone happy with whatever we decide, so don't overtax yourself on this, Rose.

I don't. I'm just trying to think of a way to make happy as many people as possible. I just meant that maybe putting up some sort of warning on the thread so that at least members will know what they're getting they're getting themselves into. *shrug* I really don't know. These are just suggestions.

This is a difficult thing. I'm an IT Manager at a school and I understand exactly what it's like to have to watch what kids are looking at. It is a pain in the neck and something that requires constant attention.

We try our best to keep the students away from inapproriate material, and we do manage it for the most part, however we understand that nothing is 100% safe and we therefore have an Acceptable Use Agreement we make the students sign as well.

We basically put the responsibility back on the student as much as possible. We accept that we have a duty of care, but there is only so much we can do.

You have to take this viewpoint as well. You are certainly not responsible for individuals viewing so called unacceptable content. Who decides what that means anyway?

Everyone is different and people have to be responsible for themselves.

Being a web censor might be my job, but it certainly is NOT yours!

You keep up the excellent work! :)

hey all, i just joined! :D i luv this site, and now im a member!!! oh um yeah i think that the parents should watch what sites their young ones go to, i know there is alot of naughty stuff out there, im turning 18 this year so i concidered myself mature enough to read fanfiction :-P AND I LOVE IT! well i've only read the fics off this site because they are so :bounce: beautifully and well written -i already have my favourites  i especially love the "in character" fics. so uh i think i got carried away there im supposed to be writing about the poll  well, to keep it short the parents SHOULD be more responsable. :) i waited 4 years and now im old enough to read the adult stuff :-P so the lil ones should be patient -the more mature you are the more you understand the fic.

First off *hugs Rose*

Okay moving on...Yeah it wouldn't be a bad idea to restrict entrance to the mature fics. They're still going to get in. But at least if another parent comes to you, you can say "hey they got in doing this and that." As for Club Beer....well many already know my feelings on it to begin with. I think restricting that would be a good idea as well. Even in jest and fun it's not a place for youngins.

Or do what I'm told
But one of these days
I've got to hit the road
On my way home
I'm coming home
That's where I'm going

I think that parents should watch their kids, but I also know that they can?t watch them 24/7? If you could design a lemon forum to appear only to members would be perfect. You could post a message on the forum directory showing where the lemon stories will be going. When children are raised right? they don?t get into that kind of trouble. Even if it is no more than a mistake on the parents? part, it is detrimental to them. People are right when we don?t need to babysit them, but we can?t just let this material be here for someone to just click and read. We would be partly responsible for not having any restriction whatsoever. At the very lest we should have the authors make sure in their disclaimers that they or the site is not responsible for underage viewing and that they have been properly warned? That is my opinion and my fundamental beliefs as well.
It is nice to have returned. I greet you all. I guess its time that I show who I truely am...

Oh boy...

I'm gone for several months and all Hell breaks loose...

I have a REALLY GOOD IDEA what happened, I tried to stop it from my side but it was already too late. To all, one person involved was so upset about it, he won't even go near an internet computer ever again.

He also wish to say to you Rose, He is very sorry. He did not wish to get you into any trouble. And to apologise to everybody, for his behavior.

With that said, I wish to remark that I have found, through corresponace with fanfiction.net people and here, there is a ALOT of underaged people on lemon sites. It is the parents' responsiblity, ultimatly, but many will blame BI and not their children or themselves. The parents in this situation have been cool. Rose is VERY LUCKY that she hasn't have any problems.

The solution? Perhaps several things on the list should be used. Listing this as mature would mean I could not be looking at this site at all. But if that has to be done, I will agree to it.

All the lemons in the same place? Again, that worked on the original site. Perhaps blocking only that site might work, and I could still access this site. And so can the guests and underage members.

Kari has a great idea. Ask for the age. There will be people that will lie, but you have proof of their age and you can allow access to limited areas on the site. When this problem comes up again, then you can say that their child lied to you, and you are covered.

It may be harsh, but you must agree in this day and age, one must protect youself, Rose. You give this free website to "publish" our stories and a forum to discuss them, we should allow you some blanket of security. If you get into trouble because of one of us, innocent or not, the this site is gone.

And I, for one, would be very sad.
