How To Be a Lady: Chapter One

**

Walking towards the school, suitcase in hand, shoes clicking against the hard cement underneath. The air was chilly, the day gloomy, something to compliment his mood.

He had awoken to gray clouds this morning, the temperature just above freezing. Having prepared his things, Heero had been glad to have it be such a day. It provided him with the excuse to wear many layers of clothing, baggy in nature, and completely warm.

Although, as the days progressed he was sure it would not last long--- this form of wardrobe would have to be changed due to certain seasons on the verge of arriving.

Something he was altogether not looking forward too.

But it wouldn?t stop from lifting his mood a tad, and he was determined to look on the bright side of things. If there was a bright side, that is.

Turning a corner on the street, his steps fell short as black Iron Gate came face to face with him. Stonewall stretched from either side of the gate to surround the school.

A low scoff escaped Heero, more like a prison.

He could see a group of students chatting happily by the entrance, unaware as they were of his presence. Stepping forward, he moved to cross the distance from the sidewalk to the gate.

It was interesting you might say, how the group of students chatted so amiably outside, despite the cool breeze. Even with the warmth of his clothing, he could feel himself shiver every now and then from a brisk wind sent his way.

As he moved closer to the entrance, he watched the slight change on the student?s faces as they peered up to see the newcomer, a mixture of curiosity and indifference gracing the majority of their faces. But he didn?t care, neither for their quiet greeting, or the whispers that came as soon as he passed by his soon to be peers.

Seclusion going to be Heero?s only friend the entirety of the semester (Mr. Seclusion meet Heero, Heero meet Mr. Seclusion).

The only other person who might be titled as an acquaintance was a fellow he was most inclined to ignore--- wherever that idiot might be.

It wasn?t until he caught sight of the school that Heero finally noticed his surroundings. One might say the usual emotionless face was for once expressing a bit of what he was feeling.

Heero?s jaw dropped at the sight of his new school. The wide lawns, the trees tall, yet were lacking the usually wide berth of leaves, and light covering of frost. Although the air was crisp, he felt a sort of warmth surround him as he looked around him.

The place was altogether beautiful, all leading to the castle like structure not to far away. Tall and wide, and few centuries old--- just the place he had been told to expect. Looking the right and left, he could see where might be the pool and gym, and most likely the dorms where all the students would sleep.

Letting out a slow breath, and moving to take a few steps, he returned to his usual pace as he moved the rest of the distance to the school--- eyes still glancing about him in wonder as he took in the rest of the school.

*

He waited patiently outside the principal?s door. Patiently--- as in, he tapped his foot against the hardwood floor, and drummed his fingers along the armrest.

Not to mention he was a bit disgruntled by the hard seat covers he was made to sit on.

The tap-tap tapping of the typewriter almost a bit loud as the secretary worked her usual rounds. It was astonishing how very like this school was to his own--- only realizing it a bit belatedly as he entered the school doors--- his wonder quickly evaporating at the realization. But, the gloomy outlook on the day had dissolved just as quickly, and his moods lifted a bit more than he thought possible.

So he was altogether, not in such a bad mood.

That is--- he wouldn?t have been, had not another student arrived (quite loudly, he might add) rather suddenly with a burst of the door. He flinched as the door banged into the side of the wall, his head turning away--- not caring whomever it might be. But as luck would have it--- he was not to escape quite yet.

?Ah, I should have known I?d find you here. Already here to meet the principal I see.?

Duo, or Mr. Maxwell had finally decided to grace him with his presence--- oh goody.

A small resigned sigh-escaping Heero as Duo came to sit next to him.

A few minutes passed before Duo begun talking to Heero in what could only be considered a one-sided conversation. An occasional ?hn? escaping the boy whenever it seemed called for. The chatter only pausing momentarily when the secretary came to hand a few papers to Duo, whom in response took them merrily and begun to fill them out as he once again continued his endless chatter.

It wasn?t until Duo hit upon the conversation (of all the beautiful girls) he had seen that Heero actually stopped ignoring him and took a bit of notice. Not that Heero was one to really notice all the girls, as his thoughts unlike many teenage boys; his thoughts were centered on other trivial matters (not that Heero was a prude or a cold fish not to notice a flash of skin now and then).

But it was this topic that had Heero turning to look at Duo with a slight raise of his eyebrow.

Heero glanced briefly to the secretary, wondering whether she took notice of the conversation, but the look on her face hadn?t changed and the tap-tap tapping didn?t stray from its quick pace. So--- turning once again to Duo, as he seemed quite happy to chatter away on the topic of girls, Heero decided to join in on the conversation if only momentarily.

?It would be better for the both of us, if you remembered rule six of our challenge. We are not to engage with any of the girls here in any sort of romant-?

It was here Duo, looking surprised that his companion had actually spoken to him--- but as the words slowly registered in Duo?s mind that he decided to interrupt.

?There?s no need to worry about that Heero-buddy. Not in this get-up anyways. You can be sure I?m not interested in any of the girls who?ll take a liking to me this semester. Couldn?t do much with them anyways without them finding out.?

Heero--- only a little reassured by this statement once again opened his mouth to say more, but was soon cut off by a wave of Duo?s hand and a quick ?don?t worry about it? look sent his way. A small frown and the usual glare he now associated with giving Duo marred his face.

But as it was, he knew he could say no more as Duo was prone to ignore any and all of his warnings. Most likely going ahead and breaking the said rules he usually warned Duo about in the first place.

So he could only hope for the best, however little reassuring that might be.

Turning around, Heero listened to the rhythm of the secretary?s typing as Duo once again set about to have his one-sided conversation. This time without any of Heero?s interruptions, or words of wisdom--- the very way Duo liked it.

It was strange he thought, that he should be here of all places. The very school his mother had attended.

Why the challenge involved him being here was even more interesting. To attend his mother?s school, if only for a little while, then to return to the school his father had attended.

What would his mother say?

It was with a relieved heart that the club leaders would make sure no one outside of the club (including his family) would know where he was for the semester.

How he could succeed with the challenge they set forth without their help on that end of things--- seemingly impossible. It was then; during these thoughts that Heero was brought out of quiet thoughts that Duo paused his chattering and the secretary slowed her typing.

The creak of the Principal?s door opened as a very plump looking woman exited from inside the office (just think of a pumpkin with a splash of violet). Turning her squinty eyes over the scant few people in the waiting room, she zeroed in on Heero as she lifted one of her hands to bid him inside.

?Miss Yuy, I presume. If you would please, we have a few things to discuss before you can begin your first day at out academy.?

And with that simple statement, Heero moved to grab his belongings before taking the few steps to enter the Principal?s office.

AN: Yes, I am taking up my own challenge, as it is, no one else has posted for it yet. I do hope you enjoy it although I?m afraid the characters are all going to be a bit OCC in this AU. But I do hope I?ll provide you a little entertainment along the way. Anyways, thanks for reading and please: Review, Review, Review!!!!

((Oh, and don?t let this story discourage any of you who promised me that they would do my challenge? I?ve been looking forward to reading them so very much!))

Ohoho. I'm just trying to picture Heero all dressed up as a girl.... I mean with the whole get-up and everything.

I mean, he's just too... too.... muscular?

AUGH! I don't know. But he's be a terribly mannish woman, I think, the poor cutie.

Relena will get quite the shock, ne? Not that they've even met yet.... ::sigh:: When do we get the pleasure of that moment?
