Pure Coincidence

Hey everybody! ?A Time of Mistrust? was a tough story to keep going, so this time I?m going to try a one-chapter comedy of coincidence?I hope you like it!

Disclaimer: My birthday has passed and I STILL don?t own Gundam Wing :::cries hysterically then suddenly calms down::: I?m better now.

PURE COINCIDENCE

Relena sighed. She and Heero had only been married for six months and she was slightly panicky. This wasn?t supposed to have happened yet! However, it was too late to do anything about it so Heero would just have to deal with it. She decided to tell him her little secret after dinner.

Later that night?.
Relena had made an excellent dinner. She had even bought ice cream for dessert, which was unusual because the Vice Foreign Minister had to stay slim. She had bought REAL ice cream, not frozen yogurt. He wasn?t going to complain, though. Halfway through the ice cream, Relena decided that what she had to tell him couldn?t wait any longer.
?Heero?? He looked up expectantly and she blushed. ?I?uh?well, you see?I think?I think I?m pregnant. I don?t know for sure, but my period?s late.?
Heero spluttered and choked on his ice cream. He opened his mouth as if to speak, and, not finding the words to, closed it. He repeated this several times before mumbling something about going out to get a pregnancy test as he grabbed his car keys. After he left, Relena smiled. That wasn?t as bad as she had thought it would be. She started clearing the dishes.

Heero drove around for a while before finally choosing a drug store to go into. He just didn?t want to go into the drug store close to their house because people would talk. He slunk into the pharmacy and found the pregnancy tests. He sighed as he began his quest to choose the ?most reliable?, which was naturally claimed to be true by each and every test. He ended up picking one at random and walked up to the cash register. He tried not to look anyone in the eye while he waited in line, but there was something about the cashier that he couldn?t ignore. When it was his turn at the check out, a single green eye stared at him and a small gasp escaped Heero as he realized that it was Trowa behind the counter! ?T?Trowa, what are you doing here? What about the circus?!?
Trowa smiled slightly. ?The circus isn?t traveling right now and I needed some cash. So, what have you and Relena been up to? Besides the obvious,? he smirked.
Heero chuckled. ?Not a whole lot?I think she may reconsider staying in politics if ?this? isn?t a false alarm.?
Trowa nodded. ?That would be wise.?
Even though there was no one in the drug store besides the two of them at the moment, Heero felt awkward holding the pregnancy test. Trowa scanned it and put it in a little bag for him. Heero wrote his and Relena?s phone number on the back of the receipt and handed it to Trowa. ?Give us a call sometime.?
Trowa nodded his assent and slipped the paper into his pocket. Heero left and drove back home.

When he arrived home, Relena was fidgeting on the couch, pretending to watch TV. When she saw him in the doorway, she jumped up and gave him a hug. Heero gave her the bag and she went into the bathroom. Heero started to sit down at the table, but couldn?t stand just sitting there. Unsure of what to do and feeling slightly sick, Heero grabbed a spoon and started eating ice cream right out of the carton. ?No wonder women find this so comforting,? he thought to himself. He heard the bathroom door open and he jumped a little. ?I don?t know yet, but you better not be eating my ice cream!? she called teasingly. Heero put the lid on it a little guiltily and put it back in the freezer. He twiddled his thumbs for a few moments before he heard Relena?s light, quick steps hurrying to the kitchen. Heero could tell by the huge grin on her face that it was true. They were having a baby! Relena threw her arms around his neck and whispered in his ear, ?Lets *celebrate*". She nibbled his ear but noticed that he wasn?t ?responding?. ?What?s wrong?? she asked.
?I just?well?it?s like?it?d feel like someone?s watching.?
Relena burst out laughing and gave him a long, warm kiss before skipping off to the bedroom. Heero smiled. Wow. He was going to be a DAD. The thought was overwhelming.

It was unfortunate that the Gundam pilots hadn?t all kept in touch, although it was hard with Trowa touring in the circus, Wufei being so anti-social, and Quatre doing God knows what. Heero and Duo had remained friends, and had heard that Quatre had broken away from his family to ?make his own way?, but they weren?t sure what that entailed. They hoped he hadn?t decided that he was gay and had ?come out of the closet?. However, when Heero called Duo to tell him that he and Relena were having a baby, Duo was dumbstruck for a full minute while wrapping his mind around the Perfect Soldier becoming a FATHER?to a CHILD. Then, after that precious moment of silence, Duo started laughing and congratulating. Heero rewarded him with a smile. He realized that he had started smiling more and more often while thinking about his and Relena?s new baby. Then Relena got on the phone, too, and talked to Duo and then Hilde. The excited screaming coming from both women was loud enough to make Heero and Duo get off the phone.

EIGHT MONTHS LATER?.

The two of them made the decision to check Relena into a little known hospital under a fake name so that reporters wouldn?t pester her. She had abdicated her position as Vice Foreign Minister so that she could spend unhindered time with her child, but the media still wanted to know about every aspect of her life. She had arranged for her OB-GYN to come with her to the hospital so that someone familiar would deliver her baby (A/N: sorry if OB-GYN?s don?t deliver babies?I wouldn?t know, but I thought it would be a safe guess).

Relena grimaced and squeezed Heero?s hand as the first contraction came. Heero buzzed for a nurse. Much to his surprise, in walked?..

?Quatre!?
Quatre gaped when he saw Relena?s bulging belly and Heero by her side. He looked from Prussian blue eyes to the sunshiny face on the bed. There was much hugging and catching up to be done, but Relena was moving along and it was time to get into the delivery room. However, her OB-GYN had mysteriously disappeared (to the nearest bar), so Relena would have to rely on the resident obstetrician, whom she didn?t know. She sighed but put on a smile to greet the doctor she was about to meet. Quatre brought in the resident, and both Relena?s and Heero?s jaws dropped.






?Wufei?!?!?!? Relena cried in shock.
?What in the hell made you decide to become an obstetrician?!? Heero asked.
?We?ll talk about this later. Right now we have more *important* things to do,? Wufei replied briskly.

And so the delivery, well, happened, Wufei shouting things like, ?Push woman!? or, ?You bring injustice to giving birth!? and ?Weakling! My wife got the job done in one push! So PUSH!!? And Relena pushed with all her might, which Heero was sure of because she almost broke his hand squeezing it against the pain. She gave a final push and suddenly crying filled the room. Relena cried and laughed in relief. Heero, in a state of shock, realized that Wufei had become an obstetrician because it gave him an excuse to express his sexist feelings toward women. After the baby had been cleaned up, Heero left Relena to cuddle the new baby for a minute while he talked to Wufei. ?Did Sally really give birth in one push??
?Hell no,? Wufei replied, ?that?s physically impossible but it makes the mommies competitive against a woman that they don?t know.?
Heero smiled and walked back to his wife?s room. The baby was a girl and Heero felt a warm feeling swell in his chest at the sight of his two leading ladies. ?Chloe,? he choked out around tears. ?Let?s name her Chloe Rose.?
Relena smiled and choked around her own tears, ?That?s a very pretty name.?
Heero climbed up on the small bed with Relena and held his family in his arms.

Ahhhh, that was so cute/hilarious. (snigger) I especially liked the 'my wife gave birth in ONE push'. (chuckles some more)A nice little read before I headed off to bed. ^____^ Thank you. It was muchly appreciated.

And Heero, goggling like a fish... (cherishes the moment) THAT's not something you see everyday. ^_~
