AN: The next chapter is here, and I think I did a great job at keeping Heero in character. You may not think so, but I'm proud of myself. ^_^ The mystery only gets deeper now, and you shall soon understand the meaning of the title. Also, there's more than meets the eye in this dialogue... so don't pass judgments just yet. And finally, thanks for all of the wonderful replies. They inspire me so much.

Disclaimers: I don't own Gundam Wing.
???

The princess rested herself so mournfully in that dusk the new moon, merely traced with her former mother's glow to cast the earth in darkness, could promise in her birth as this woman gazed upon her echo within the mirror's face, the shadow whispering against the glass a descant she feared to breathe into the distance, for perhaps amidst some realm in which supposed ears other than her own could hear and mock her romance with the disdain she desired to yield her dear friends would indeed be taken from her side... even her love.

"I have to... I have to talk to him, no matter what the cost to myself," she decided almost silently among the hushes the wind dare cry upon that eve, crossing her robe more aptly about her breasts and turned to the Vid-com sitting on the table next to her.

She held the crumpled shred of paper within the grasp of her palm, the hand shaking horridly at the thought of talking to Heero once more, after what seemed three long years ago. Oh she had suppressed the yearning that bled for his heart to mend and use the kindness she knew dwelled within his mask to sooth, slowly yet steadily cracking to reveal the true compassion he withheld... she had cried her tears for him and shed her nightly sweat in recurring nightmares of gore at his demise, and yet she knew that just one glance into those orbs capturing the myth of midnight amongst their sheen would be enough to make her forget every restless dream she toiled.?

Slowly, hesitantly she typed the number on the keypad and waited for his face, shrouded by the serenity the blackened aura had now cantered unto his land to feed his nocturnal children--mere illusions dancing through moonbeams--, hiding her expression in those same shadows to keep him from seeing the affection resting there.

"Heero," she seemed to sigh as his name left her tongue as nothing less than a prayer to send, those hands once more quaking.

"Relena?" he answered her back as he had returned her calls once reverent to his soul so many times before, almost questioning if it were truly her contacting him on this night, rather than someone only posing as herself to ensnare him... knowing where the source of his strength resided.

Taking a breath to calm the choking of her voice at his appearance, she went on, "I needed to speak with you... it's very important."

"I thought we agreed that day three years ago to never speak with each other again. It couldn't be those years ago, Relena, and it still can't be now... for the sake of peace and our sanity."

"I know, I know we promised each other complete detachment, but I must break it now," she gasped oh so desperately as she saw his finger reach for this 'disconnect' button on his keyboard, she clutching her vanity against the will she bred to keep her body from trembling by the reminisce. No... you can't think about that now Relena, not with him watching you and his life at stake. Your loss you've suffered can't cloud your vision. "I need to speak with you alone."

"You have my attention," he replied coldly to her pleas, eyes dancing aflame in the moonlight of his dorm--phantom calling to the darkness that bathed him.

"No, not over the phone; the line could be tampered with. I need to speak with you in person."

He looked at her half-way amused with her desperation quite blatant upon the flush of her cheeks along the dusk, smirking a bit as he thought of how naive she really was, so innocent still even after he filled her once with his tainted soul (as if he wouldn't be able to monitor his own line).

"Relena, this line is completely secure, and you know that."

"Heero, just please listen to me for once... God for once in your life let me protect you!"

She could hear his sigh at her outburst, feeling his eyes move downward as he considered her plea--how could he say no to her, after what they shared, after he killed her so... he owed her this much--, and bringing his face to meet hers, gaze to gaze, ocean wild meets river clear... river raging with reflection of that sea, he answered, "All right, Relena. I'll be over to your estate within the hour... and that's as 'alone' as we're gonna get."

Blushing at his comment, she gave him a weak smile in gratitude and whispered, "Thank you, Heero... my love..." the last few words lost to him as the link was terminated.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"So what do you want, Relena?" Heero murmured against the breeze echoing rather quietly alongside the silence only twilight could sire, standing there upon her balcony amid the glass doors rendered by his touch.

"Heero?" she asked him softly as she met his silhouette against the infant moon's halo, finding her feet moving her body to sit upon the bed for support without her consent; for her knees felt themselves falter by the very blaze he fetched along his veins--flashbacks of their passion entering her mind to weaken her more.

"Yes."

"You're in danger."

Snorting at her perversity and crossing his arms about his chest as he leaned against the far wall, he sneered, "I've been subject to danger since I was born. I didn't really expect my enemies to give up once 'peace' was maintained."

"No Heero, you don't understand," she managed to utter against his severity that shattered her breast in the throb it dared ache, clenching the sheer of her gown to keep the tears shackled; just as ripple shatters the crystal of the lake so tranquil, so beautiful once... how could he just forget what they had... go on as if it was just a physical act with no intimacy at all? "This isn't just a general statement; there's a direct threat on your life again."

"By whom?"

"By the Imperial Embassy itself. The leaders have heard about your little sprees around the colonies, and let's just say they're none too pleased by your cruelty towards the people you and the other Gundam pilots once swore to protect.

"I just don't understand you," the maiden sobbed beyond her own will, reaching out and capturing his hand within the grasp so fragile in the dread she spoke. "You go through hell to acquire peace, and then you go with your comrades and throw it all away out of a brief flash of anger? Is that it?"

"I don't know what you're talking about, Relena. Neither myself or the other Gundam pilots have been to the colonies in over half a year. The reports must be mistaken."

"Oh please, Heero," she could only insist at his denial, for now she could feel the frustration rise from just that to a resentment at his dishonesty towards her, completely misleading. "The military has eye witness accounts of you guys threatening colonies."

"So you're saying you don't believe me?"

"No! No Heero I never meant that. It's just that I... I don't know what to think. I have powerful delegates shouting to me to hand you guys over on one side, yet I have you being the heartless bastard on the other, not even trying to defend yourself if you're as innocent as you claim to be.

"What's more, Senator Coniak is seething vengeance specifically at yo..."

"If you called me here to simply accuse me and throw away everything we once knew of each other, then that's fine with me," Heero interrupted her rambling with pure ire to lynch his voice as he scathed himself where her caress that once cradled him so fondly, taming the demons that haunted his craters from a past he couldn't even speak, turned hollow; he threw her to the sheets to tangle her there from his grip before he could check his fury from rampage, but scarring his thoughts to leave his breast enflamed... betrayal shrieking her banshee's cry as the gales outside sang alto to her shrills. "I don't need your help or your concern," he turning and disappeared from the balcony and into the brush it sustained.

The princess's knuckles feigned to white as she saw him leave her presence, her breath chained to the cavern of her throat with only tears to help these inhales break their irons as arid wails resounded amongst that room barren of all but she, "Heeroooo! Bastard!"

Oh, yes, I think you got Heero perfectly in character! He is quite a bastard though, ne? Relena should have just slapped him to knock some sense into him. That jerk.

Well, besides Heero's emotional constipation, this chapter was filled with more questions! *grins* I wonder why Heero and Relena promised to never speak to each other? Did I miss your explanation of that, or is it yet to be revealed?

I can't wait for the introduction of the rest of the gundam guys. Brilliant chapter, Tomorrow! I can't wait for more.

*hugs*
Berry

PS. You're from Missouri, Tomorrow? Awesome! So am I! ^_^

Oro? What's the danger for Heero? A tad confusing, but you said you'd clear it up later XD
