Inuyasha was laughing so hard as they came down to the open space of the rooftop of the university. They were heaving for air after flying a far off place. Inuyasha tried hard not to be entertained but to no avail, he was laughing his heart out.
Kagome's wings gave one last flap and she made it disappear behind her. Retreating to her mortality, now visible to others, she tried to comb her disheveled hair with her fingers. Her eyes darted to Inuyasha, who was dusting himself off with his hands.
They have been from a city and Inuyasha pulled several pranks on people and she -heaven's angel, was no other than an accomplice. Her brain was filled with guilt but her heart allowed so much amusement. Well, she was half-human, after all. Humans were obliged to err.
Glancing at Inuyasha, she noticed that he was still trying to find stray leaves on his sweatshirt and pants. She stepped closer to him and took one unseen by the hanyou from his hood.
Their closeness suspended her heart as she felt his warm breath a few inches from her face. Her eyes suddenly locked with his, starting to melt her as he stared.
Stop it, Kagome, she ordered herself. Swallowing the thick lump on her throat, she smiled playfully and withdrew her hand with the leaf and let it float down to the ground.
Taking a step backwards, her feelings started to scare her. What the hell was she doing so close to him like that? Before they left for the city, she dared to imagine what their position would be like when they were about to fly some place else. Would she embrace his back or should she let him hold onto her back? But Inuyasha knew well to let her grasp the insides of his arms and let her powerful wings carry them both.
Kagome took a step behind them and went to the edge of the rooftop's railing and leaned her body against it. She felt the strong blow of wind against her hair and she did not bother to keep her poise. The sky was starting to grow dark, she noticed. Who'd ever imagine that she would spend the entire day with Inuyasha -a hanyou?
"What are you thinking about?"
His question startled her secretly. Within a matter of hours, have they opened themselves to each other ever so quickly? How was that possible, she asked herself. He was getting too personal but then again -they had nothing to hide. They were beings but neither had secrets or a past life. Their life was pretty much black and white. Kagome never thought that being half-human would turn her clear perspectives into a blissful color of gray.
"Oi, wench," he started. "How long have you been human?"
Kagome knew he was just seeking answers. He longed for her company because no one else was there for the newborn hanyou. Yes, that was it. But she knew he could have left her when he saw her at the park, instead he stayed and agreed to talk with her.
"How long? I don?t know, really. All I know is, I have been allowed to guard Sango countless times in different manifestations as a stranger. This is the first time I was given a certain identity, my first time to get really acquainted with Sango."
Inuyasha did not respond, instead he looked far across the sky.
"How about you? What made you pursue to taste mortality?" Once again, he kept silent. Kagome did not intend to pester him with questions intriguing her brain. "I know demons work for being a hanyou. It?s a different case for us angels. One day, an angel messenger told me that I was to become half-human but I could still transform into my true form. I didn?t say anything and the next day, I woke up in an apartment somewhere here and instantly I knew I was somebody. I don?t know why I was given this chance to be in this frail form-" she stopped herself from saying words that would bring out such emotions from her heart, words that might reveal what she has been feeling since the day she has become Kagome the human.
His ears twitched as she cut her words, his eyes suddenly darting to her into a frown. "Don?t you like being human?"
Kagome's eyes widened as the hanyou spoke the words she was afraid to utter. An angel had an obligation and was always compelled to follow no matter what. She dismissed thinking further. She shook her head and took a step back. "I? I have to go back to the apartment."

Feeling her motion to leave, Inuyasha's senses tingled. She, go back to her apartment? Where was he going to stay? Is he supposed to standby and keep watch? But his body was assuring him he was not the demon he was. His mortal body told him it was a few moments till recharge. He reached out his hand to her and grabbed her wrist. "Wait!"
Her eyes widened. "Why?"
Damn that Sesshoumaru! How could the demons leave him like this? He wanted yet again to bite his tongue and slit his throat but he had to calm down. This is the reality. Demons only do something for selfish benefits. Why would the Head Demon be so concerned as of where he would settle down once he was human? Funny? he was not the angel Kagome, who was given security that once she woke up -she was under a roof.
So he still owed the damned Sesshoumaru for at least giving him some clothes to start with! Curse the wretched demon! His chest felt wonderfully exuberated with frustrating anger. This was their role, to lash hurtful things against others and against each other and it was enough to content his human heart with his demon bliss of wrath.
She was baffled as she stood before him, unable to respond. "What are you thinking?? You can't just stay in my apartment."
"Yes I can! I'd be invisible before I enter." Inuyasha grunted impatiently. "I have? nowhere to go."
Her startled eyes softened with humbleness. He knew she had no choice but to be the helpful angel she really was.

Kagome's place was just a large room with everything on it. There was a small kitchen with a small refrigerator, an oven, a sink, a wooden table and two chairs. On the other side of the room was a fourteen inch television, a cushioned sofa for two and a book shelf against the wall. There was a lone door in the big room which was probably the rest room. It did not take long to reach the large bed on the far side of the room.
?So? you live here, huh? It?s near Goshinbu.? Inuyasha continued his observation, continuously thinking of how Heaven pulled the strings to provide Kagome such a homey place to live in. Why Hell wasn?t gracious enough to even give him some extra pair of underwear. He cursed under his breath.
?What was that?? Kagome asked.
?Nothing,? he replied quickly. He looked out through the window that was a few feet from her bed and set his eyes down to the street. Her apartment was in a building, twelfth floor, room 125.
His mind was full of uncertainty, the events of the day starting to sink in his brain. Everything seemed to happen so fast. His eyes stole a glance at the kitchen where she was and it was hard to take his eyes from her.
?Are you hungry?? she asked, unaware of his eyes on her.
His hand instantly went to his stomach. Hungry? Hunger. So this feeling was hunger. He walked to the kitchen and sat on a chair. His eyes pasted on her form, yet another burst of questions filling his head. She was in her human form and he could not muster how she managed to conceal her very huge, elegant wings.
Damn, he cursed again as he turn his gaze away. He was getting used to watching her every movement ?waiting for what might she do next, or what emotion her big eyes would express. She caught his attention again when she placed two plastic cups with seals on the table. He frowned as he read the words: Instant Ramen.
Kagome blushed, she seemed somewhat ashamed. She held her hands together in a knot on her skirt and fumbled as she opened the seals on the cups. ?I?m sorry if this is all I could offer you right now. Cooking is really fantastic. I kept on practicing with what was already here and so ?well, I?ve wasted and ate too much, I guess.?
Then he noticed an angry burst of steam behind her, his eyes widening and he stood up from his chair in alarm.
She followed his gaze immediately and gasped at the sight of the electric kettle shaking with heat and intensity. With caution she carefully unplugged the appliance and walked ever so slowly to the cups and poured the hot water in each. Placing the kettle back to the counter, she sat across him and pressed the seals of the containers with her fingertips. ?Let?s just wait, it?ll be ready after a few minutes.?
?I know that, baka,? Inuyasha snorted out of the sudden. He cursed inside his mind for being so frank. Wasn?t he indebted to her for letting him in her place? But heck, he was a demon after all. He secretly glanced at her to see if any form of anger or irritation formed her face but to no avail ?she sat there, her eyes locked with her own cup of ramen.
After a few minutes of silence, Kagome reached out and pulled the seal off his cup. ?There! Don?t worry, we?d be eating real food tomorrow once I get to shop.? She turned to her own cup and opened the seal. ?Be careful, it?s hot.?
?Of course it is, baka.? As the smell of the ramen caught his sensitive nose, Inuyasha?s mouth began to water. His stomach turned with eagerness for food. Not once did he eat real food before. Unconsciously licking his lips, he took the steaming cup with his hands and raised it to his mouth. The burning sensation in his mouth made his senses tingle with pain but he didn?t mind. He just slurped the soft contents of the cup and he wiped his lips off as he sat back satisfied with a warm ramen-filled stomach. He felt her eyes on him and he frowned at her. ?What?s the matter? First time you?ve seen someone eat ramen??
Kagome shook her head with a laugh. ?I?m sorry, forgive me. I?ve seen other people eat ramen, of course but not that fast. I mean, the ramen was hot. Mine still is.?
Inuyasha snorted as she laughed again. ?I?m a demon. Did you forget??
Kagome suddenly froze, her happiness perched. She looked away and nodded.
Inuyasha felt his stomach turn again. He was still hungry? So this was human hunger? He wanted to ask for more but after treating her without respect? Maybe later. He had to be careful next time when being a jerk. He stood up and went to her sofa and sat down. ?Could I watch TV??
Kagome smiled faintly and nodded. ?As humans say, make yourself at home.?

She was kind enough to give him some blankets and let him sleep on the couch. It was hard to crouch into such an uncomfortable position. As much as he did not want to sleep, his human body felt tired and exhausted. He stared at the darkness, his mind uneasy. His chest was unsettled, though. Her presence was rubbing off on him. Her kindness, her smile, her goodness ?he was so disturbed.
Earlier, they watched TV together and they sat beside each other. He couldn?t really keep his mind to understand the program they were watching. Her nearness made his heart beat so fast, his hands doing their best to keep to themselves. Damn it!
He had plans before becoming hanyou. What about his plans of giving Miroku a run for his money and getting laid? He didn?t even get the chance to chat with Miroku. All he did, so far, was to be with this angel, his enemy, his companion. But he was at peace, strange as it may sound. His plans did not seem important at all, his helpless condition with her putting his mind at ease.
All he wanted right now was to discover the essence of humanity.
The essence of humanity? Shaking his head quickly, he squished his eyes close. He was acting so damn human!
"Sheesh..." he muttered angrily. With an instant, he was up on his feet, walking to the window beside the bed where she lay. He opened it and sat on the pane.
The wind blew softly inside the room, making his hair float for a matter of seconds.
Inuyasha closed his eyes. And there was it again.
His hand enclosed over the soft skin of her face. A moan escaped her lips and he smiled. He wanted to move his palm and feel more of her but he stopped his urge. He wanted to do this so much, maybe even when he was still a demon. He used his fingertips to clear the stray hair from her face, the feel of her skin vibrating ever so ferociously against him.
His feet went cold as her eyes half-opened, her hand catching his on her face. Then he felt himself pulled closer.
?Inuyasha? come,? she whispered silently as she motioned him to lay beside her. ?Don?t be frightened.?
Inuyasha grunted but he followed where her hands directed him to be. He kept his eyes on her as he did, making sure he kept his guard? making sure it was real. He felt so warm, just the way he ate his ramen ?but so much warmer on the chest, as her hands enclosed his against his chest.
The angel touched his cheek and smiled.
Inuyasha smirked and looked away. ?I?m not frightened. If you think you could send me to hell-?
?Shh?? she hushed him, her fingers reaching around his neck, pulling him closer, down to her bosom. She smoothed his hair, frightening him even more, making him still and passive.
?W-what? are you doing??? he whispered in a muffled tone against her softness. He was blushing, that was for sure. But in the dark, that was his dirty little secret.
?Listen.?
Inuyasha stopped his thoughts from wandering and obediently followed her once again. His ears heard it, his arms wrapping around her body, grasping her closer, making sure he heard it all the more.
?This is life, Inuyasha,? she said softly as she continued to stroke his hair. ?This is what we didn?t have when we were what we were.?
Inuyasha nodded, closed his eyes, concentrating. He could have listened to the throbbing in her chest, the loud beating of her heart. He felt her fingers, cold fingers reach for his own. She placed her palm against his heart and sighed. ?Now we have a heart??
How beautiful did her heart sound, her voice. The way her hands was on his chest, he felt so fulfilled. He listened to her more, the way she explained how humans lived, loved and how they strived with their lives. He took all her words in his head with sure understanding and it amazed him how she perfectly knew when she needed to stop and explain again.
She went on and on about humans and their passion until he was no longer listening. His arms tightened about her but with great care. All he could think about was the angel and her heart. He liked to hear her heart so much. But he knew one thing she said would stay in his mind.
She was real. So was he.
