Three milk shakes later and two cokes later I crossed my arms and sat back
watching him suck the last of his coke with a red straw that was almost
translucent.
I was feeling quite peaceful and like my old self again. Over the last few hours
I had grown to admire the little cafe. So foreign to my
usual formal surroundings. An old plump lady and her friend with frilly red hair
sat across our booth and I could hear the one whisper to the other, "What a
nice couple. Such a innocent girl with such a mysterious man."
I blinked a couple times. Heero and I? A nice looking couple? I glanced at the
self indulged man and raised an eyebrow. Despite his tired features, he still
obtained that darkly feature I was enchanted by as a young girl. What I loved
most about him then and now was his hands. His callus, graceful hands. The ones
that were rough and hard against my own flesh but gentle whispers.
They always made me think. How could one man be so contradicting? How can he
push me out of the way but yet do it in a way where I feel the warmth and love
smacking against the wall and bruising up?
I'm sure if he was to shoot me I would only be happy. I was shot by Heero Yuy.
An honored to have made it to his list of
'need-to-be-assassinated'. Proud. Damn Proud.
"Relena?" He snapped me out of my thoughts and I slightly blushed
seeing I was staring at his hands. Oh, such hands. Boy I needed a life.
"Yes?"
He shifted in his seat and took a breath. "About my problem..."
"Would you like to talk about it in some fresh air?"
I didn't want him to think I was avoiding his request, but the smell was too
strong now, and I felt some what ill after the shakes and coffee. Fresh air
would treat me right. He slid over his side of the booth and stood up pausing
for me to join his level. I took a sip of the water to get one last piece of ice
cube to suck on before sliding out.
I heard him chuckle as I passed him by and headed to the check register.

Clouds folded over and I could tell some bad weather was on it's way in just a
few hours. A pushing wind molded goose bumps up and down my arms and I stepped
closer to Heero's heat.
Something about him being here made me smile. He was here. And not just any he.
He Heero. Heero the one I've missed. The one I've dreamt of, the one I vowed as
a teenagers to love till my dying day (which comes more often than you think
being a famous
person). It felt so right when he held one arm around my shoulder and held me
closer when he noticed my struggled with the breeze.
It was a small gesture. But for me, for Heero as well, it was something big. It
was a step. Heero never was like this before. He wouldn't even hold my gaze for
long. He always looked away.
Now, it could be that I was ugly, and perhaps with the help of my trusty, seen
on TV ab worker I've worked a few knots out, but not enough that it makes the
whole difference to the point where he can gaze into my eyes.
Seven years can do a lot to someone.
But he was setting my hopes on fire and for that, if he ever drained water on my
flames, I would do something drastic. Like pluck his button off his shirt.
Well, whenever he would wear a shirt with buttons.
We didn't need words, I was in my own world, he was in his own world, and put
them together and what do you get? Uh, um, our worlds mixed together?
So what if that's lame. I thought it was still romantic. And yes, I have been
reading Nora Roberts once again.
"Relena, I need an answer by tonight." We stopped our walking and
ended up by a diamond shape fence with the suburbs on the other side. The
sidewalk was old with grass and weeds growing out of the cracks. The grayness
from above made everything shift into the upcoming rain that would soon begin.
I paused my finger on my lip for a moment before raising an eyebrow.
"What's the problem Heero?"
I could see a sense of something pass through him as his breath thicken. "I
contacted my mother and father Relena. I've finally found them." A bitter
smile swept his features before he continued. "I called my mother a week
ago, asked if I could stop by this weekend. She said yes and asked me if I was
married yet. When I said no I could sense her disappointment." He looked
through the fence to
the hills that rolled over each other into the distance.
"I asked Duo about it later. He said it was natural for mothers to be down
casted when their sons aren't married by their middle twenties. Ironic, isn't
it? I'm not even her son really, and she's still sad."
I nodded, not quite following. "Where do I play into all of this?"
A bitter smile crept up as he turned towards me and spoke hastily. "I
called her later for directions, she mentioned if I was bringing anyone along
and I suggested I brought my girlfriend."
There and then is when I learned a human's heart really could stop. Heero Yuy
had a girlfriend. And he was taking her to meet the in-laws. And what was
I? Chinese fortune cookie to offer advice to his so helpless suffering soul? I
think not.
"Will you come?"
So maybe my last Chinese cookie that held a tiny little white paper with printed
letters that seemed to mock me saying "Wisdom is not your forte" was
true. For I was not so bright at the time being and had no idea what Heero was
saying to me.
"Huh?" It was apparent.
"Will you come with me. To my parents house." He stepped a little
forward and I felt my hands start to sweat.
"But your girlfriend-"
"Silly. I don't have one. I need you to pretend." Christ of cruches.
If I was flying I just crashed. Pretend. He wanted me to pretend. Uh huh. Right.
"Listen, she doesn't know anything about my past, she thinks I'm a normal
person with a normal girlfriend in a
happy relationship."
"You know she will push you to get married to your so called
girlfriend."
"She already asked if I had it in tow. I guess after two phone calls I'm a
mamas boy and caved it with a 'I've been looking at rings'." I gaped at his
booktold grin. Was this Heero? Smiling Heero?
"I can't believe you did that Heero!" Anger though was pushed over
with my laughing. "After all this time I never knew you could lie to your
own mother. Geesh."
I presumed back to my laughing. It was too much. Heero Yuy, the ex perfect
solider, who asked for my help. Surprising enough. But to help him carry out a
lie to his mother? That is where my nerves crunched up and I couldn't contain my
breathing. It was simply too
funny.
He tried to glare but his lips kept fighting to turn right side up which made
him seem even cuter. I squeezed his shoulders and counted to ten out loud.
"Okay , I'm okay."
He smiled. "Are you sure?"
"Positive." I took a breath and stepped back, blushing slightly at the
display of touching we had both encounter. "So what would be in store?
Holding hands? Sharing rooms? What's the limits?"
"Does that mean your going?"
"First the layout."
He sighed. "I hadn't really thought about it much. I guess we'll have to
act like a couple. Holding hands, an occasional kiss if needed, but don't expect
any romance."
"Oh I wouldn't dream of it." I was kind of shocked. Heero and I were
planning our dating reference. I never thought we'd do that. Not in a million
pink tutu dancing Wufies.
"I'm spell bounded Heero. I'll accept your offer."
"I'll pay you."
"No need." I took his arm and led him down the sidewalk with a
chuckle. I felt the first drop of the shower. "It will be fun to watch you
struggle to be normal."
