"What are you doing here? I thought you were going to leave me alone…" the slim form whispered exasperated to the shadows of his room.
"I'm here to talk-"
"I don’t care. I've seen enough of you in my life. Go away… for ever."
"We have to talk."
"I don't want to."
"You should be the carrier of my name…"
"The war is over! White Fang's been defeated! You don't need a carrier!"
"You're wrong… I'll always need one. Wars are never over, they always continue… It's a vicious cycle my boy… And it is your duty to have my name."
"He can have your name since he claimed it first. I have never claimed it at all… He can keep it."
"He cannot handle it."
"That Shinigami has been handling it just fine. Now leave before I get angry and-"
"And what? Kill me? You can't do that… Punch me? Nope, can't do that either… What will you do?"
"Just… leave," the boy answered anger audible in his cold voice.
"I can't do that either… We have to discuss where I'll strike next… In times of war, people die every day and I have to be present at the battlefield…"
"I've already told you, damn it! The war is over! Leave me alone!"
"You know I can't do that…"
"Why do you always come to me… I'm sure there are other people who want to me your ally…"
"They do not deserve the title… But if you wish me to leave, I'll leave… Then I'll be able to ruin some else's life." The shadow started to vanish but the boy call it back.
"I want to know why… Why do you keep threatening to destroy like that?"
"So I can have a conversation with you. Because I know you have a soft heart… I was wondering. When will I be able to kill her?"
"Her who?"
"The young girl you told me you wanted dead but never set a date to do so. It'll of course be an early death with not much that she was to accomplish done, but that doesn't matter. As long as I get to taste another soul…"
"Stop it! I hate when you talk like that…"
"Scared, my Messenger?"
"Stop it," the boy whispered gulping. The shadow at the corner of the room gathered together and formed the shape a slim boy with white eyes and black long hair flowing freely down his back. He held a scythe in one hand, its slice shiny and sharp, ready to strike. He walked to the bed where the boy was seated and sat down next to him.
"Why do you loathe me so? Aren't I your only friend?"
"No you aren't-"
"People abhor me… They think of me as a long lasting eclipse, as a dark cloth over a field of vision. I have no friends but the souls I kill and those hate me as well…" the figure giggled and sent shivers down the boy's spine.
"Death doesn't laugh."
"Oh. But it does Messenger. It laughs at the foolishness of people it kills… Of people doomed to die… I'll be sad when I have to take you away… I'll also be sad when you'll be taken away from me… Please allow me to kill her. Kill her for me, for us… For your future."
"I won't… She'll die when she must and I know that it isn't by my hands she must die…"
"She'll destroy you!"
"She already has… Go away!"
"But we haven't finished talking!"
"I have nothing more to say to you."
"Do you want me to leave my Messenger by himself and face an infatuated woman who could easily demolish what took him a lifetime to achieve? I cannot do that," the figure replied strictly.
"A life time of what?" the boy replied furiously. "Of fighting? Of death? Of suffering? Let her destroy that… Let her destroy all of that and strip me bear of my past so I can start a new future."
The figure sighed deeply. It's eyes gaining color for an eighth of a second before being bare of anything but the cornea once more. "I have lost you haven't I? I came too late. I'm sorry I could not save you."
"You came ages too late… She came just in time."
"For you to refuse her helping hand… I will never forgive you for this Messenger."
"Forgive me for what? For wanting to live and not talk to you anymore?"
"He helped you didn't he?"
"He did… And I'm glad for it. He showed me different options for my future… And none of them had you in them," he answered the figure with a harsh, uninviting voice.
"Very well then… If that is your wish, my Messenger… Do not come calling for me when you wish to leave this cruel and unjust world… I will miss you. I'll never leave you, however. Whenever you kill, I'll be there." The figure started to morph back into being a shadow and collected itself to the corner of the room. "Take care of him from now on… I will no longer to able to look after him… I just hope you showed him the right futures." The shadow dissipated slowly and soon was no more in the room.
At that moment, a knock was heard followed by a feminine voice, "Heero, can I come in?"
'My future… Shinigami, I am sorry, but a happy future is more inviting than a dark one.' "Come in Relena."
The door was pushed open and the girl walked in, the light of the corridor illuminating her form in the dark confinement of his room. The light disguised the young female into an Angel for a split second before the door closed and she once again became what the boy knew as his savior…
