Ch.4 The Painful Truth

 --In room with Heero and Relena--  "Heero."  Relena sighed.  Though she wiped away her tears, Relena's face was still wet.  ' Still wet cuz I'm still crying.' She thought dumbly, then thought, ' It's been so long since I have gazed upon his face.'

     "Heero, are you in any pain?  I'll get Miss Po, since you are awake." Relena stood up to leave, but Heero warily reached out and grabbed her arm as firmly as he could.

    " I'm fine.  The only pain I have is here." Heero pointed to the left side of his chest, where his heart continually beat, proving its life.

    "Please let me get Sally!  She can help!"  Relena answered his gesture frantically.  She turned around and spoke sadly and slowly, "Please Heero.  I've already lost you once, and I can't and won't bear to lose you again."

    "Relena." Heero paused then continued, "What I feel is not physical pain, but emotional.  For the first time, I can feel.  You helped me feel and live.  If I had never met you, I'd be dead.  But since I did, I'm alive.  I'm alive because I live for you.  As I wandered closer to the edge, wondering why I was here, I remembered a promise to someone.

    I remembered that something was missing in my life and my heart.  That something, rather someone, that I just happen to also make the promise to, is you, Relena.  I realized then that I not only couldn't wander over the edge yet, but that I needed you to help me stop.  I need you.

    But I didn't have a place to go to sort out these new emotions that bombarded me all at once.  Then the war a year ago happened.  For the next year afterward, I was shown the meaning of being lonely.  There was nowhere to run for someone to tell me it would be all right.  I once again became the cold emotionless, perfect soldier.  No one cared, so I didn't.  But I tried to remember what was important to me and this world.

      Then another rebel group formed, making me forget what I had been remembering for the past month.  So I focused on eliminating them once and for all.  Their population stands at 100 men.  They are loyalist from the organization I destroyed a year ago.  They are escapees from a preventer hide-out.  Two followed me here, but they are both dead. They did their share to me, obviously.  Now there are only 98."  Heero smirked at the last thing he said.  He couldn't believe he had just had a conversation and he did all the talking.

    "Heero, why didn't you contact us?" Relena asked disappointed.

    "Yea, why didn't you contact us?  We're your buddies!" Duo joked stepping out of the shadows of the door.  Everyone had walked in at the part where Heero said, "...another rebel group..."
    Sally was in the back of everybody, but she took charge anyway.  "Thanks Trowa.  I knew you'd round them up.  Ok, now make a path, these bags are big."

     After everyone was situated in Heero's stay room, Sally again took charge.  "Heero, while I'm changing and checking your bandages and wounds, why don't you tell us everything.  From the explosion at the B.P. Base.
    Heero nodded and told his tale.  He started with when he planted the explosive.  " I unfortunately, and narrowly escaped the guards that were trying to clobber me from every side.  But I managed to get to the shuttle, that I stole before, in one piece.  I pushed the button and everything went up in flames.  No one there survived.  Another shuttle exactly the same as mine, followed me a month later.  They tried to kill me.  I eased onto their shuttle just as mine exploded.
    A piece of debris was shot my way and it knocked me good..."

    "No wonder he's talking so much." Duo commented jokingly.  Heero glared at him and continued.

    " The two inside thought I was somehow one of theirs, so they pulled me in.  I reached for my gun, they attacked, and that's the struggle you predicted, Noin.  I was still 1/2 conscious when you found me."

    "But why did it take a year?" Quatra asked, very confused.

    "After I killed the 2 loyalist, I checked their route plan.  They were to orbit the earth for 10 months to gather gundanium alloy.  I had already been in space for two months before, so I figured I would get everything I could gather for the next 10."

    "Why were you there for the two months before?" Duo asked skeptically.

    " I had things to take care of."  Heero finished.  Obviously ending his second conversation there.  He had enough of this talking for one day.

    " Ok, Heero, you're almost healed.  How?  I don't know, but whatever it is, keep it up.  It's going to save your life."  Sally informed.

    Trowa spoke up from his corner of the room.  "Noin, you had something to tell us?"  Trowa stated more than asked.  Before she could answer though, Sally intervened asking, "Where is Zechs?"

    Relena turned to Noin and said, " Yes, where is my brother?  I'd figure he'd be here to hear the news."

    Heero "humphed".  Looks of confusion and disapproval were cast his way.  Heero just closed his eyes and thought, 'Lena, I'm sorry.'

--At Loyalist base-- "Agent Jay!  Agent Jay!"

    "Ye-yes commander?" the young loyalist stuttered.

    "Has our operation been..."
BooooooooooooooM!

All of the sudden, half of the base was exploded to pieces.  "Commander?  What..."
BooooooooooooooM!

And that was it.  The base was completely demolished.

    A silver-blondish haired man smirked.  "Miss Unn, mission accomplished.  The base is completely gone."  ' Thank you, Heero.' The man added silently.

    " Very good, Zechs.  Return home.  Tell Miss Relena the news.  And for once, it will be good news." She finished with a relieving sigh.

    ' Oh, it's news all right.'  Zechs confirmed sarcastically.

---10 minutes later in Heero's room---  "And that's the whole story.  There's another organization that has come from one of our preventer hide-outs.  They reported that they had caught approximately 100 men.  Luckily that's all we'll have to deal with.  And luckily that Heero will be better in time to help us..."  Noin was cut off when Zechs entered and cleared his throat.
     Heero glanced up and Zechs nodded his greeting and possibly something else.

    " Hn."  was all Heero did.

    " Brother, where were you?  I thought for sure you'd be..." Relena was interrupted.

    " Relena, I have something to tell you."  Zechs spoke.

    "What is it?" Relena questioned noticing her brothers discomfort.

    "I've known of this new group for quite sometime.  About 11 months to be exact."  While everyone, minus Heero and himself, erupted into questions and looks of shock, Zechs remembered his conversation from 10-11 months ago.

~~~~~FLASHBACK~~~~~
   "...**static**...to base.  I....success......taken over......shuttle.  This is.....ero...uy."
    Zechs sharpened his ears and tried to make a connection. 'Is that really Yuy?  I thought he was dead.'
    "Base to shuttle, this is Preventer Wind.....Zechs....Yuy?  Is it really you?"
    "Hn."  was all that was replied.
    " How...What shuttle...Did..." Zechs tried to piece together.
    Heero fixed the connection and started answering unasked questions.  "There's another organization made of 100 loyalist.  They escaped a preventer hide-out and are looking for revenge.  Request landing."  Heero spoke monotonously.
    "Hmmm.  Request granted, under one condition.  Make no other contact with anyone.  If Relena found out, she would be crushed to know you were alive and you didn't tell her sooner. Keep in touch with us preventers, of course.  We'll help with the current situation."
    "Hn.  Accepted.  Landing time: 10 months."  Heero thought, 'I'm sorry, Relena.'
~~~~~~~END FLASHBACK~~~~~~~

    "Zechs!"  Noin shouted.

    "Huh?  What? O-oh, what is it, Noin?"  He replied coming out of his trance.

    "How do you know all this?  How'd you know about it 11 months ago?!" Noin asked irritably.

    " 11 months ago, Heero made contact with the base.  For the next 10 months he'd report to me what he could.  I made him promise not to tell anyone else he was alive.  And moments ago, I completely and successfully brought the end to the organization.  And hopefully all wars.  I'm so..."

    "You lied to me?  I thought I could trust you, Milliardo."  Relena stormed out of the room.  It was the first time she had called him by his real name and interrupted someone.

    "Relena wait!"  Milliardo exclaimed.

    " No! No, I will not wait!  All you'll do is lie again.  How could you not tell me that Heero was alive?  Why don't you let me live and let me learn on my own for once?  Let me follow my own way!  Remember when this was my life?!  I Don't Either!!!
    You could have been killed doing that on your own!"  She changed the subject with the last sentence.

    "Freedom carries sacrifice, Relena.  You learned that a year ago."

    " But it didn't work, did it? No!  Another group organized themselves and....." She was cut off by Zechs.

    " And are ALL gone now."

    " You have eyes and a heart of stone, Milliardo, if you can't see that.....You should have told me."  With that Relena left a completely stunned Milliardo and the rest of the group.
