Jalise
looked over at Heero and saw that he was leaning on the steering wheel. She reached out and nudged him. He didn’t move. ‘Oh god I hope he’s not
dead.’ She reached over and checked
for a pulse. It was still beating and
his only steady movement was his breathing.
Jalise sighed and sat back. ‘God I thought we were going to die. That fool.’ She jumped out of the car and saw that he jumped the curve and
knocked over a garbage can. ‘A garbage can? He was knocked out by a garbage can?’ She looked around and saw that people began
to gather. ‘I have to get him out of here.’ She rushed to the drivers’ side and yanked the door open. She pushed Heero over into the passenger
side to the best of her ability (since he was heavier than she was), leaned
over him and closed the passenger door.
She
straightened him out the best way she could, and got out of the car again to
check what type of damage was done to the car.
His front fender was scratched.
She sighed and jumped back into the car. She closed the door and wiped the wet hair out of her face. ‘Now
Heero, where to?’ She looked at him
then at the glove compartment. She
searched it until she found his registration.
‘Cause I sure as hell don’t want
to go back to HQ, so I’ll ask around for directions from other drivers.’ She found his address and started the
car.
Trowa
leaned against Lady Une’s desk. Her
door opened. “Any word from Heero?”
“He
already called…” Trowa began.
“Good
then he’s on his way,” she replied before taking a seat at her desk.
“…An
hour ago. The rain stopped so he
should’ve been here already.” He walked
over to the window. “It’s not like him
to not call in and tell what’s wrong.”
“Did
you call his ph-“
“No
one picked up.” He sighed and rested
against the window
Lady
Une looked own at the phone and then at Trowa.
“I hope it’s not for the worse.”
Jalise
parked the car and got out. She went to
the other side and opened the door.
“Okay…how do I drag a submarine to the elevator?” She sighed and pulled Heero out of the
car. He fell to the cool garage floor
and groaned. Jalise shut the car door
and looked around, hoping she didn’t look suspicious. She placed her arms underneath his armpits and began to drag
him.
“Ugh,
Heero you’re one heavy person…”
“Miss,
do you need help?”
Jalise
nearly dropped Heero at the sound of the voice. ‘Oh shit. He’s knocked out
and I don’t even know what his apartment number is…’ She set him down
gently and zipped up his jacket she had on.
“Um yes…” ‘Damn, a security officer. How
come I didn’t see him when I looked around?
Argh!’ “My boyfriend and
I…we’re just coming from a bar and well he’s pretty much knocked out.” The security guard walked over to Jalise and
looked down at the supposedly drunken man.
He scratched his head and sighed.
“Well
I guess I can…wait a minute. That’s
Preventer Heero Yuy.” Jalise’s heart
began to pound hard in her chest.
“So
you’re his new girlfriend huh?” ‘Phew I thought I was a goner…’ She
nodded.
“Not
bad.” ‘What!’ He slung Heero’s arm
around his neck and stood up. He smiled
at Jalise when she took the other side.
“Come
on, I’ll take you up to his apartment and then you can take it from
there.” ‘Just don’t wake up from now ‘till then Heero…’ Jalise silently
pleaded.
When
they made it to the fifth floor, Jalise struggled to figure out which key was
the house key. “First time.” The guard
asked.
“What,”
Jalise asked shocked.
“No,
I mean first time coming here…to his apartment?”
“Yes. Normally he comes to mine,” Jalise said
through gritted teeth.
“Oh. Well that’s something different. His other girlfriend used to always come
here.”
‘Like I really care,’ Jalise thought. “Bingo.”
She pushed the door open and felt for the light switch. The apartment was surprisingly tidy. They walked into the livingroom, which held
a fairly big television, which was directly across from the door. In front of the TV was a black sofa and in
the middle was a small coffee table. To
the left of the sofa was lounge chair and to the right was a rectangular glass
table. To the right of the TV was the
entrance to the balcony.
Jalise
and the security guard carried half-dragged Heero down the hall, pass the small
kitchen to the first door…which happened to be the bathroom. The next one was a linen closet and the
third was his bedroom. They literally
dumped him onto the bed and Jalise saw the guard out. After she locked the door, she slid down the wall and
sighed. “At last, I can rest.” She looked towards Heero’s room door and
sighed again. “But first…” She walked
back to the room and stared at the unconscious form. “Boy am I going to get into trouble for this…” She walked over to
him and peeled off his wet clothing…down to his boxers. She looked down at his damp boxers and
decided to leave them on. She pulled
the covers from under him and pulled them up to his chin.
She
reached under the covers and placed his hands on the outside. “Now for me to get out of these wet
clothes.” She looked around his room
and set eyes on one of his drawers.
“Though I don’t have anything to wear, I’m pretty sure he won’t mind…”
She pulled out a pair of sweatpants and dropped them to the floor. She opened another drawer and pulled out a
T-shirt.
Picking
up the pants, she headed towards another closed door. She opened it and saw that it was another bathroom. ‘Another
one?’ She shrugged and stepped
inside. ‘I guess I’ll take a tour after I change.’
She
emerged from the bathroom ten minutes later, with rubbing alcohol; cotton balls
and bandages in hand…and quietly closed the door. She picked up Heero’s wet clothes and hung them wherever she
could hang them so they could dry…as did hers.
She walked over to the bed and sat down gently. He didn’t move. ‘Please at least let me
fall asleep first then you can wake up…’ she thought as she cleaned the
wound on his forehead with no problem.
‘Boy, am I lucky the guard didn’t
see that. Thank goodness for your
unruly hair Heero…’ She set the bottle aside, threw the garbage in the
nearby wastebasket and looked at Heero’s handsome features. He looked so peaceful when he was asleep,
and yet so deadly when awake. ‘Well from what I’ve seen so far.’
With
the fear of him waking while she was still awake, she got up, turned off the
light and walked out of the room, leaving the door ajar. She waked to the linen closet and pulled out
an extra blanket and pillow. She walked
to the dimly lit living room and threw them on the couch. ‘Now
let me take a small tour…’ She took a quick glance back at his room. “Then again, maybe not,” she said to no one
in particular. Sighing, she turned the
apartment lights off, made herself comfortable on the couch, and dozed off into
an uncomfortable sleep.
In the morning…
Heero
slowly opened his eyes, trying to remember what happened. Then it hit him like a tone of bricks. “Jalise…” He threw the covers back to reveal
that he had nothing on but his boxers.
If anyone were in the room with him, you would’ve sworn that you heard
an animal growling and not him. He
grabbed his gun out of the dresser drawer that was next to him (well one of his
hidden guns) and stumbled out of bed.
When he reached the door, he felt a sharp pain in the front of his
head. He squinted and reached up,
feeling a bandage. ‘I must’ve hit my head…’
Heero
quietly opened the door to his room and crept down the dimly lit hallway. As he passed the bathroom, he heard running
water. ‘Who the hell could be using…’ He cautiously to the living room and
saw that there were a couple of blankets neatly folded on the couch, along with
a pillow. ‘So she slept here and now she's using my bathroom,’ Heero
thought as he made his way back to the bathroom door. He turned the knob and found that it was unlocked.
As
he was about to barge in and raise hell, the phone rang. Heero silently let go of the handle and
answered the phone.
Jalise
turned off the water and stepped out of the bathtub. She grabbed the towel she found in the linen closet and wrapped
it around her wet body. She sighed and
cleaned the foggy mirror. “I
wonder…what will Heero say when he sees me walking around in his clothes.”
“I’d
ask if you had a death wish.” Jalise
jumped to find him standing in the open doorway with a gun in hand.
“Heer-o…I
uh…” she gave a small nervous laugh and looked away. “Was I supposed to stay where we were or bring you here?”
“You
could’ve answered the phone when it rang and then they would’ve came and got
you.”
She
glared at him. “I’m wasn’t going back
there, and I’m not going back either.”
She
picked up the clothes she borrowed and approached the door. Heero straightened out and stood his
ground. “Excuse me, Heero.”
Heero
raised an eyebrow. Jalise began to grow
a bit agitated. “Can you please move out
of the way so I can get through?”
“And
why would I do that?”
Jalise
gave it a small thought. “Well…I…”
“Do
you have a change of clothes here that I didn’t know about? Did you do some early morning
shopping?” Jalise peered into his
Prussian blue eyes and wondered what his next move would be.
“No
Heero.”
“No
to what?”
“No
to all of your damn questions. What do
you want?”
“You’re
going back to HQ so they can…”
“I
can’t go. My shirt’s ripped and my
jeans are still wet.”
“Then
I’ll have someone come here and help you out.”
“Fine. Now move!”
Jalise gave Heero a push with all of her might, but he didn’t budge.
She
sighed in defeat.
“Agreed?”
“Whatever.”
“Yes?” She didn’t say what he wanted to hear. “I said whatever.”
“That’s
not what I want to hear-“
“God
damn you Heero! I said whatever. Yes! Heero YES! Are you fucking happy
now.” Jalise sighed and backed away
with tears filling her eyes. “I didn’t
mean to cause you any trouble at all. I
just…I just don’t know how to deal with what’s going on. Do I just drop it like it’s no biggy
‘everything’s going to be okay’ or do I have a nervous breakdown?” She sobbed.
“I had everything going for me Heero.
I was going to see my family then start working at Sea World in Florida
for a while until I was granted with a higher government job in the field…”
“What
field?”
“Marine
Biology.” She sighed and wiped her
face. “I apologize.” Jalise placed her arms on the edge of the
sink and rested her head on them.
“Lady
Une called while you were in the shower.
She’s coming over,” was all Heero said before he left the bathroom.
%%%%%%-In Space…in one of the colonies…
“I still can’t figure out a way to fix this thing,” Dean muttered to himself. Kenneth walked over to his friend and landed a heavy hand on his shoulder.
“Face
it buddy, its garbage. You’ll just have to tell her what
happened and explain to her that she has to find a living here…” Kenneth sighed
and walked out of the laboratory. ‘Find one here without that loving support
she had through most of her life…’ he thought solemnly. ‘If it
comes down to it, I’ll help support her…’
Dean
dropped his tools and sighed. He
grabbed the nearest chair and sat in it with defeat written all over his
face. ‘I’ll have to face her sooner or later…’ He got up and walked
towards the phone. “Sooner…”
Jalise
felt a tap on her bare shoulder. “What
do you want,” came her muffled reply.
“I
would like for you to explain to me what happened last night,” came the
feminine voice. Jalise looked up and
saw a woman wearing a uniform that looked similar to Heero’s…only she wore a
skirt. She had long brown hair and
brown eyes…with an expression that would scare a little child.
Jalise
looked away and didn’t answer. “I asked
a question…”
“So
go ask Heero. He’ll tell you.”
“I
forgot to introduce myself. My name’s
Lady Une…head of the department…and I’m in charge.”
“Nice
to meet you. I’m pretty sure you know
what my name is.”
Lady
Une sighed. “We aren’t getting
anywhere.”
Jalise
got up off of the toilet (the seat was down) and glared at Lady Une. “Well just in case you haven’t noticed…I’m
not at home. But if I was, then I’d be
a much happier and better person to talk to.”
She walked past Lady Une and towards Heero’s room. Heero stood across the bathroom in the
hallway and watched her as she walked towards his bedroom. Lady Une walked out of the bathroom with
slight agitation.
“Where
are you going?”
“Nowhere
where you can’t find me. I’ll be in
here, covered in his big blanket so I won’t catch a cold. I have nothing to wear.” She slammed the door behind her. Lady Une sighed and looked at Heero.
“Would
you mind if she stayed here until we found a place safe enough for her.”
Heero
cocked an eyebrow. Lady Une
explained. “Somehow, one way or
another, word got into the street and reached the wrong ears. We received a threat notice from an
anonymous person saying that they’d like Jalise in return for Relena’s
location.” That perked Heero up a bit.
“What
does she have to do with Relena?”
“At
first I thought it was some kind of joke.
But Relena has been no where to be found for over a month now, since you
and her brother had heard from her, and we can’t seem to find her. I don’t know if they have her or not, but I
do know that Jalise may be in some sort of danger. The ESUN also heard about it and if Jalise posses a threat to the
people then…something will have to be done.
She doesn’t seem to be the type to cause trouble. And with what she’s going through, she’ll
need some type of comfort. I’m not
asking you to give it to her, just watch her.
If that gets out to this anonymous person then they’ll probably cause
trouble.”
Heero
nodded and thought about what he just heard.
“Meanwhile…” Lady Une looked
At
his door, “I’ll get the necessary
information from her and I can have someone get a few things for her. Heero I appreciate this.” Lady Une walked to his room door and knocked
on it softly. Heero walked to the
telephone to make a couple of phone calls.
Well,
that wuz chapter 4…The scientists will be in an out of the story and Relena’s
on the way (to ruin the day…maybe?) I
don’t know. You’ll have to read on and
find out.
