Author’s note: Hi everyone I’m a new author and this is my very first fanfic. Let me start by introducing myself I’m Juu-babe1 . I don’t want to give anything away in this story so you’ll just have to read to see what it’s about. A few things though , this fic is slightly AU , Heero is only half Japanese and his name really is Heero Yuy. This story takes place 2 years after EW and 3 years after the original series, the year would be around AC 198. So on with the story! Disclaimer: I don’t own any of these characters nor any other part of GW. I do however own the character Kira Hunter (if you think that it’s a stupid name tough it was all I could think of and I’m too lazy to change it) she comes from the depths of my own imagination so there. Old Wounds New Wars Prologue "Well another year has gone by," a shorthaired young woman said to herself as she glanced at the calendar that hung on the kitchen wall. Sighing to herself she took another sip of her coffee and absentmindedly began to trace the pattern of the table clothe as she allowed herself to drift back to those memories that were the happiest yet the most painful memories of her life. *Flashback Thirteen Years Ago* A five-year-old girl was running down the darkened halls of an underground base in the L1 colony. Her instructor had allowed her to take the rest of the day off from her lessons. As she pondered on what to do with her new found freedom she passed by the cafeteria, which was completely dark except for an eerie blue glow. ‘How strange,’ she thought. Upon further inspection she discovered that the strange glow was actually the screen of a laptop computer, and there was a dark outline of a small figure no bigger than herself staring intensely at it, with the most unruly hair she had ever seen in her life. Thinking that enough was enough she decided to find out who the little figure with the messy hair was. After all this base was her domain. She knew everyone who lived here and all those that visited often quite well, and she new she could never forget that head of hair. Switching on the lights she got a better look at the figure, who turned out to be a boy about the same age as her , with deep Prussian blue eyes that reminded her of her mother’s eyes. ‘How weird,’ she thought as she continued to observe the boy in front of her. The unruly mane of hair was a shade of chocolate brown that seemed so familiar to her, as if she had met someone with that hair color before but couldn’t quite place it. It was impossible for her to know anyone with that hair color, everyone she knew either lived here or visited often and stayed for long period at a time. In all of the five years of her life never once did she venture out of the base and no one new was ever brought here because of security protocalls, and none of them had that hair color. Yet it seemed so familiar. While the little girl was lost in her thoughts, the little boy silently observed the intruder that had so rudely barged in on him. Taking in the fact that she was the same age as him with long brown hair that was streaked with natural strawberry-blonde highlights. Her facial features were quite exotic , even at the tender age of five anyone could tell that she would grow up to be a very beautiful woman someday, with high cheekbones , a slender face , and large almond shaped eyes that gave away the fact that she had some Asian heritage. ‘ She must be half Japanese like me,’ he thought, as he took in her most unusual feature, two different colored eyes. The right one being a deep shade of forest green, and the left being a deep Prussian blue the same shade as his own eyes. Shaking himself from his thoughts he addressed the other child. " What do you think you’re doing here," he demanded. Snapping back to reality the girl realized that she had been staring , and opened her mouth to apologize but was cut off before she could say anything. " Why don’t you just go back to your little play room an stop pestering people that have important work to do," the boy said as he abruptly turned back to his computer screen. "Oh, and turn the lights off on your way out ," he called over his shoulder failing to see that was getting really , really mad. ‘The nerve of that boy! How dare he order me around this is my home!’ Smirking to herself she quickly formulated a plan that would teach him a lesson. Putting her stealth abilities to use she quickly snuck up behind the boy and knocked him out of his chair. And after a few expert strokes on the keyboard of his computer she turned around giving him a devious smirk and ran quickly ran out of the room , remembering to turn off the lights as he had instructed. Laughing to herself as she heard him run after her yelling about the fact that she had just sabotaged his computer. *Back to present time* Shaking her head sadly the young woman sipped some more of her coffee, as she returned to the memories of her childhood , and the boy that had been her comrade, best friend , and whom she had always thought of as a brother. *Still present time just somebody else’s thoughts* ‘It’s been eight years to this day,’ a lone figure standing at the edge of a cliff over looking the water, thought to himself. ‘Earth. She really would have loved it here. This planet is more beautiful than either of us had imagined. I wish that she could be here to see this place, if only she was still…..’ No, he couldn’t bring himself to finish that thought, not again. But it was too late the memories that he always blocked out of his mind came flooding back to him as they always did on this day of the year. The young man sighed as his mind began to drift back in time to a memory that he knew would never would fade. "April Twenty Third, After Colony One Nine Zero," he whispered the date into the wind, for there was no one to hear him. And if there was they would most certainly hear the sadness in his tone. But even more shocking would be the sight of his impassive , emotionless mask slipping away and being replaced with an expression full of sorrow, despair, and grief. *Flashback eight years ago April Twentieth After Colony One Nine Zero* The figures of two ten year old children moving swiftly across the open area of the training facility, in a series of punches, kicks, and blocks. For a while the two seemed evenly matched until the boy unwittingly left an opening that his opponent quickly took advantage of turning the tables on him and gaining the upper hand. "Ha! I win, that’s two out of three. Face it I’m just a better fighter than you are," the girl said wiping the beads of sweat and strands of hair that had escaped her ponytail out of her face. "Best three out of five," the boy said as he stood up and brushed himself off. "Awwwww , come on , quite being such a sore loser." The only response she got from him was a glare as he assumed a fighting stance. Rolling her eyes she moved into the same position , thinking about how she was going to make him pay for doing this to her. Before they could begin their instructor called them over so that they could receive their next assignments. Giving her companion a smug grin the girl ran off to receive her next assignment . The boy uncharacteristically stuck his tongue out and made a face at his friend’s back before he went to see what his new assignment was. "You two are doing quite well with your training ," their instructor praised. He was a mysterious old man with long hair , glasses , and a mechanical hand. Most People found his appearance to be disturbing and tried to avoid him as much as possible. But to the children the man known as Dr. J was the only type of father figure either of them had ever known. "You two will be working together on this next mission, it’s a bigger job than either of you had ever done in the past, that’s why the two o you will be working together," Dr. J said as he handed a file to each of them to study in order to prepare for their new mission. As they turned to leave Dr. J Stopped the girl saying that he needed to talk to her for a few minutes in private. The girl agreed and told her companion to wait for her in the cafeteria so that they could discuss their mission. *Three days later April twenty third After Colony One Nine Zero* The boy sighed in exasperation. He just couldn’t figure out what was bothering his friend. The past three days she had acted very cold and impassive towards him. It was not unusual for her to do this when she was on a mission , but she never wore that cold emotionless mask and her eyes were never that cold when she was home and more importantly she had never acted that way towards him. He turned to where she was sitting and once again tried to figure out what she was thinking and feeling but his efforts were in vain. Dismissing it as nothing more than anticipation and nervousness he got up and followed his comrade as the time came to complete their mission. Fire! Running, screaming, fear. He couldn’t stop , as much as he wanted to just stand there and wait for death to take away all of his pain he couldn’t, he had promised her that he would survive this. He found a small alleyway and ducked into it pressing his tired body to the wall trying to hide as best as he could in the shadows. Closing his eyes he tried to wake himself from what just had to be a nightmare, this was too awful to be real. But the sounds of gunshots ringing out told him that this was very, very real. He held his breath as some soldiers passed by his hiding place, trying hard not to cry as the events of what just happened a little while ago played over in his head. ~Something had gone terribly wrong. The plan had backfired somehow and now they were being chased. She had been shot and it was up to him to get them out of there safely. All of a sudden she went down after a second bullet pierced through her body. "Come on we have to keep moving , I’ll help you." "No! I’m going to die , there’s no point in you wasting your energy, I’ll only be a burden to you." "I can’t leave you." "You don’t have a choice. Just promise me that you’ll survive this." "I promise." She smiled in satisfaction. "Good. Now get out of here." He nodded wordlessly not moving , still looking at her with eyes that were begging for her to change her mind. "Goodbye Heero," She said before closing her eyes. He took this as his signal to leave even though he knew she wasn’t dead yet. As much as he wanted to stay with her until the very end, he knew that she wouldn’t allow him to watch her die.~ Wiping away his tears he slowly came out of the alley and made his way back to base alone. *Back to present time A.C. 198* "Goodbye Kira," whispered the eighteen-year-old man known as Heero Yuy. Shoving his hands in his pockets he turned to head back to his car , still thinking about the girl that he had always thought of as his sister. As the emotionless mask that had become his trademark expression ever since that day slid back into place he vowed to always uphold and treasure her memory until the day he died. Taking one last look at his surroundings he climbed into his car and drove off promising to come back to this spot next year.
