Disclaimer: I don't own anything sadly. Don't we
all want to though? Well enjoy the story! Bye for now!
Ch. 3 The Beginning
Relena
awoke with a start. Heero's words rang in her head like a bad habit. She
nearly jumped when she realized that they might already be gone. She jerked
her head to the clock sitting next to her on the wooden night-stand next to
her bed. It read 7:58am. Relena sighed a relieved one as she slowly laid
back down. Still an hour to go. "Wait a second!" Relena exclaimed while
jumping out of bed. "What if they decided to leave early!?" She dressed
quickly and 'calmly' walked out the door downstairs to the kitchen where she
knew that Duo would be. No matter what, he was always thinking of his
stomach. Relena chuckled to herself as she once again quickened her pace.
~~~Downstairs~~~ As Relena had predicted so well, Duo was munching away as
she entered. "Good morning, Duo. How are you? On second thought, how's your
stomach." Relena chided.
Duo smiled whole-heartedly as she put on the most important thing to her
and her early morning schedule. Coffee. "Mornin Lena. Just eatin 'for we
leave." It sounded more like " Oin Lea, ust eain 'fore ee eave" His mouth
was so full.
"Is anyone else up yet, Duo?" Relena asked smiling at her friend.
" Nope, just me and you. I don't even think Mr. Perfect Soldier is up
yet. Haha!" Duo answered finishing up what was in his mouth.
By about 8:30, little by little, the rest of the group was up and trickling
downstairs in pairs. All except..."Has anyone seen Heero this
morning?" Relena asked casually.
"Yea, it's 8:30 and Heero is usually the first up!" Duo said in fake
exasperation.
There were no head shakes around the room as Relena decided to check and see
if Heero was in his room. ' He's probably working.' Relena thought as she
slowly and softly knocked on his door. "Heero?" She slid open the door only
to find that no one was there. Relena looked around and noticed that Heero
had probably slept elsewhere, because the room was exactly the same as when
she showed Heero which room was his. She walked over to the window to gaze at
the ocean that lied just outside the window. She looked across the white
crystals of sand on the beach. ' What do you know? There he is.' Relena
thought. ' Where we first met.'
~On the Beach~ Relena quietly and softly walked up behind Heero. He
obviously heard her soft patting in the sand because he turned around sharply
in a fighting stance. "Good morning, Heero. How long have you been up?"
Relena questioned.
"Hn." was all Relena got.
"Heero, what are you doing out here all alone and so early?"
"Thinking."
"About what, Heero?" Relena questioned further.
Amusement played in Heero's intense eyes as he answered, "About the
mission..." Turning from Relena towards the ocean, he continued, "...about
you."
This caught Relena totally off guard and she blushed a dark crimson color.
"Thank you." Heero said simply.
"Huh, thank you? For what Heero?" Relena asked puzzled out of her mind.
"Hn. If you don't know, then you are dumber than you look." Heero was
about to walk off when Relena shouted.
"Heero, you are full of it!" Relena burst out laughing at that but
sobered quickly and continued as Heero cast a questioning glare at her.
"Heero, if it weren't for you and the other pilots, all this, all this peace
would never be. You fought for it and did the dirty work to bring what was
needed to earth, while I sat back and watched helplessly. Without you, there
would have been no earth. I only endangered everything you did. I got
captured by being..." Heero cut her off.
"You don't really believe that, Relena?" When she looked down at her feet
he continued. "You know that's not true. Without you there is no chance for
peace to survive these times we live in. Don't make me repeat what I said on
Libra... You stood for peace, and you still do. You helped the people better
understand us, and the peace you fought hard for. My hands, as well as the
rest of the soldiers hands, are stained with both the blood of innocence and
evil. How could we possibly stand for the peace that you created?" Heero
finished harshly. ' Why is she saying those things!? She's ruining her own
ideals. Maybe it would be better if I..' Heero cut off his thoughts and tried
once again to continue what he was saying. It would probably be the last
things he'd say, so he figured why not?
"Relena, us soldiers are lost souls fighting because it's all we know.
Don't go blaming yourself for our mistakes!"
The wind blew in Relena's eyes making them tear up. Relena knew it wasn't the
wind that caused her to tear, but she wasn't about to admit it. She waited to
see if Heero was finished speaking. Heero looked down at his hands, then at
Relena. She looked him in the eyes and saw the desperation in them. Behind
the walls of stone, there was a sad and defeated man fighting to be something
other than what he was.
"I'm sorry, Relena. For killing, for chasing and leaving, for...I'm
just......" ' Why is this so hard?!' Heero asked himself. ' I am the perfect
soldier, she is just a silly girl. ' In his heart, he knew better. But just
as Relena, he was not about to admit that. "...For the first time in my life,
so many people and things mean something to me. I don't want to leave it but
I have to. This is my life, not yours. So just stay out of it. I'll find a
way to make every thing right again. Even if it does cost me my life." Heero
finished more coldly than he wanted to.
Relena was hurt, and she showed it. She didn't want to, and she scolded
herself for it. She turned to leave, but before she did she said softly, but
enough so that Heero heard her, " Heero, no mater what you say, I love
you." Heero stiffened and could hardly believe that she just said that to
him. He crumbled inwardly and caught Relena's hand before she left. He
looked at her and pulled her into his embrace.
Relena was shocked but accepted his hug with open arms. She cried into
his chest softly as he hushed her. They stayed that way until Relena calmed.
She rested her head on his chest. She wished that she could stay like this
forever, but she knew that couldn't, and would never happen. Their destinies
were just not good to them. It pulled them apart every time they got close.
Relena wondered if they would ever be able to be together living in peace.
The wind was suddenly picking up and the couple broke their embrace as
fighter planes zoomed by. The enemy was here. They had found them. It was
time to leave. Heero grabbed Relena's arm in attempt to hurry her away from
him and into the house as another plane flew by dangerously close to them and
the ground. They ran as fast as their feet took them until they were thrown
100 feet forward as a 3rd fighter jet showered bombs all over the beach.
