AUTHOR’S
NOTE:
Okay, so this is a VERY short section of the story. Sorry!!!
I guess I just don’t write in chapters well. This is the
result of writing a story and dividing it into chapters
AFTER it has been drafted. @_@
I needed this part to transition to the next, but it doesn't
fit anywhere with a bigger part so here it is, floating
around on its own.

“A,B,C,D, and 335”

“Evidently,
‘Rosencrantz’ and ‘Guildenstern’ are planning to
implement some sort of test run, or experiment, on something
known only as Project P at the upcoming conference. In the
reports, Project P appears to be a weapon of some sort that
required numerous scientists and originated long before
Operation Meteor, but, due to its apparently slow progress,
was dropped in favor of Operation Meteor. It seems that the
Barton Foundation sponsored the research behind Project P,
but from the data Quatre has sent us, it also seems that the
objective of the Project P planners this time is simply
testing their weapon. What they intend to do with their
‘weapon’ once it is completed is unclear. In fact, since
Dekim Barton is dead, it is unlikely that the Barton
Foundation is involved any longer in this project. Thus,
whoever is in control must be some of the original
scientists who initially worked on the project.
“As far as Quatre’s sources can determine,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are codenames for whoever is
handling most of the logistics behind this. We do not know
if Miss Relena or any of the other delegates are being
specifically targeted, but we do know that the ‘weapon’
is set for testing on the day of the conference.” Sally
paused in her briefing to rifle through her file a moment.
“So... we don’t really know anything about the
enemy?”
“That’s right, Duo. Well, we know they have a new
weapon, but we don’t know anything about their motives or
intents.”
“Man, that sucks.”
Sally smiled. “Hey, we still have the advantage of
prior knowledge, thanks to Quatre.”
“But we don’t even know what the weapons are,
woman!”
“Well, we now have conclusive reasons that Lady Une
can accept for approving the stationing of more Preventers
all around the conference building, Wufei. We don’t want a
panic, though, so we will send in many agents undercover.
Here’s the plan for the day of the conference.” Sally
pulled up a diagram on the conference room screen.
“We have permission to use 4 squads of Preventers,
designated Squads A, B, C, and D here. Squad A will be
positioned throughout the lobby, watching those who enter
north of the structure. B, C, and D will be positioned all
along the perimeter, in case we need to initiate a lock-down
on the building.”
“What squad do we serve on?” Duo asked. Sally
turned to look at Heero. He nodded.
“None. We’re all attending the conference.”
“WHAT!!!”
“FORMAL WEAR?! Are you crazy, woman?”
Sally looked coolly at the two young men. “You two
had better shape up and be ready for it. Which means finding
some public manners—toward men AND women—some time in
the next 48 hours. We’re patrolling inside the conference
itself, specifically watching Miss Relena and the President,
but that means we must BLEND in. The conference is open to
those who managed to obtain invites, and many of those
invites have gone to the hands of unrenowned citizens of the
colonies. In other words, ordinary people, not just
recognizable delegates, will be allowed to wander the area.
It will be very difficult to single someone out as
suspicious.”
“But—“
“And,” she interrupted, “there will be a prior
sweep of the area for potential explosives or bombs by Bomb
Squad 335, which will also be among the Preventers personnel
on L1. We’re flooding the colony with agents, but we all
need to keep a low profile as Preventers. I think that’s
all, for now. Keep your ears open for any mention of Project
P, Guildenstern, Rosencrantz, or anything mentioned in
Quatre’s report. Any clue to the identity of our
conspirators or their motives and plans would be invaluable.
Dismissed.”
Duo sighed, a resigned expression on his face. I
hate formal affairs...
Likewise, Wufei turned to go, accepting the plan but
not liking it. Underhanded covert operations... we should
fight openly to protect the conference. The people know we
fight for them... and it will give the enemy less of a
chance to regroup and resist.
The
door shut as the two men prepared for the conference, which
was now only two days away.
“Heero.”
His eyes met hers steadily.
“Relena—“ Sally began.
He nodded curtly, cutting her off. Turning, he left
the room.
