Prologue
The hospital lobby would have been a reporters' gold mine.
That is if anyone knew who the people waiting
were.
Four men and two ladies sat in silence as they waited to hear
if their friend would live or die. Each
silently contemplating their own relationship with the Deathscythe pilot.
Wufei, sitting like a statue was raging with grief on the
inside. Where their personalities clashed, Wufei
and Duo still were friends. At times during the war they had unintentionally
been teamed together. He was
hurting, whether or not anyone knew or believed it.
Trowa leaned against a wall next to Heero. He may not have
been close friends with Duo but they were friends
none the less. Duo was a powerful ally and someone whom Trowa trusted and
respected. He couldn't deny
the sorrow that crept over him waiting to hear of his comrade's outcome.
Heero was silent. Just standing, waiting. Ever impassive.
Anyone watching might not have seen him but
most in the room were anticipating his next move. Quatre sat next to Wufei. He
and Duo had close
personalities. Bright and optimistic. They had become good friends and he was
deathly afraid of what the
outcome may be.
He had been called out of meeting by Hildie. She had alerted
each of the pilots. And all of them were not
taking it well. She herself was a wreck. She had a death grip on Relena's hand.
Duo meant so much to her,
she loved him so much.
Relena had been in the same meeting with Quatre and Hildie
had requested she be there. They had kept in
touch after the MaireMaya incident and the three had become closer in the past
few years. Relena was
concerned about both her friends.
Hildie released the hand and began to pace. Duo had been in
the ER why too long for her own comfort. She
had warned him about that part of town but he went there any way. L2 always had
that one place where no
matter what you did, you'd end up getting shot, anyway, Duo did.
The doctor emerged from the ER still in his scrubs. He shook
his head and that was all that was needed
before Hildie broke down into tears. Wufei's head dropped and Quatre's eyes
began to water. Trowa closed
his eyes and implored GOD to look after his descended friend. Relena scooped
Hildie into a hug a few of her
tears mixing with Hildie's. "I'm so sorry," she murmured. Heero's eyes widened.
A person would have needed to look twice to see Heero's
movements. In one quick action he had
shattered the glass of the enormous window and leapt out of the hole in its
place.
Trowa opened his eyes. "I'll go find him." The others nodded
and he left the room, through the door.
