Chapter III: Frustration

They ran down the hall pushing the stretcher along with them.  “Heero!  I’m going to kill you…aaaarrrggghhh!”  People that were inside other rooms peeked out to see what all the commotion was about.  Seeing a pregnant woman in labor doing fifty in a narrow hallway was normal.  But seeing whom it was wasn’t.  Heero ran long side with the nurses trying his best to calm her down.

“Are you the father,” one nurse asked.

‘This all seems a bit familiar.

‘She’s not dead…’

“Yes,” he answered.  “Okay then, well have to get you ready,” another replied.  Heero looked at her a bit confused.

“Ready for what?”

“To watch me give birth you idiot!” Relena yelled.  Heero stopped in his tracks.

“But you’re a month early.” He watched as Relena was pushed into the emergency room.  A few moments later, two nurses (different from the two previous ones) rushed out, grabbed him by the arms, and rushed him into the adjoining room.  He saw people running back and forth with gloves, needles and towels.

Heero looked around and felt as if he were going to pass out.  ‘What the hell…is wrong with me?’  Disturbed from his thoughts, an aid pulled him to the delivery room, getting him dressed as well.  By the time he reached Relena’s side, he had on a cap, gloves, and a robe.  He stood there not knowing what to do.  Nurses and aides were running back and forth calling out orders and Relena lay there panting and drenched in sweat on the table.

“Heero…Heero help me…”

Heero shook his head and wiped the bangs out of her face.  “I’m right here Relena.”

“I know…*huff*…*huff* you’re here.  “Give me your hand!”  Startled by her outburst, he gently took her hand, whilst she grabbed it fiercely and squeezed.  He wasn’t fazed by it, but he was surprised that she had such a strong grip.

“Where’s the DAMN doctor!  I want this thing out of me NOW!” Relena yelled.

“I’m right here Mrs. Yuy.  Hold on a second.”

“No.  I can’t.  Get it out.  Take it out, take it out, take it out!”

“In one moment.  I have to get my gloves on.”

“AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!”  Heero stood there looking at Relena a bit amused and shocked.  Never in his life would he’ve thought that he would be here by her side, watching her have a baby…his baby. A small smile crept onto his face, not realizing that it was there.  Relena caught it.  “What the HELL are you smiling at?  You did this to me you BASTARD!”

Clearly, those words could be heard outside of the room and halfway down the hall.  It was loud enough for Duo, Trowa, and Quatre to find the room.

“I guess she’s going to have the baby,” Trowa replied.  They took a seat opposite the room.

“I hate you!”

Duo couldn’t help but smile.

“And Heero gets to enjoy it all.  Along with all the sweet compliments of course.”  Quatre let out a small laugh.

 “I guess you’re right.”

“And from the sound of it, Heero seems to be taking it pretty well,” Trowa said.

“Okay now, give me a little push, Relena,” the doctor said as she stood at the end of the table.  Heero took a look at the female doctor that was on the other end of the table.  She had on a cap, gloves, robe, and a facemask that only showed her eyes.    ‘Something feels vaguely familiar about that doctor,’ he thought as the stood there doing what she had to do.

“Don’t look at her like that Mr. Yuy.  I’ll kill you myself,” Relena answered through clenched teeth.  She turned her head towards the doctor and gave a big push.  “Woah, hold on there.  Not so fast.  Don’t want the child’s umbilical cord to get caught around his neck now do you?”

“Weren’t you supposed to check first,” Relena yelled.

Duo looked up at the door.  “Check what?”

The doctor only smiled.  “I did, and he just decided to move in anther direction, giving his jump rope a loop.  Okay now, push.”  Relena gave a big push, causing her to fall back onto the pillows out of breath.  Heero winced at the pain that she was causing his hand to have.

“Don’t stop now honey, just give it another push,” Heero stated.

“Easier said than done Yuy!”  She gave one last big push, sending the child into the doctor’s welcoming hands.  A loud cry could be heard out into a hallway.  The others looked at the door knowing that the child had been delivered…safely.  “Congratulations, Mr. And Mrs. Yuy.  It’s a beautiful baby boy,” the doctor said as she helped the nurses clean off the baby.  ‘You look just like you father.’

Relena collapsed onto the pillows.  “I don’t care.  As long as it’s out I’m okay.”  Heero leaned over and kissed her on the forehead.  “I love you Heero,” she whispered.  Heero nearly laughed.

“Just a minute ago you hated me.  Changed your mind all of a sudden?”  She gave a small sigh and smiled.  “Okay, here’s your son.”  The doctor walked over to the couple and handed the boy to Relena.  He may have been a premature baby, but he sure didn’t look like one.  Relena smiled at her newborn and Heero felt a wave of excitement and curiosity come over him.  ‘That’s…our son?  He looked at Relena’s arms and saw a younger version of him, only he had his mothers’ eyes.  He watched as Relena smiled warmingly at the little bundle.  The little bundle gave a small gurgle and a bigger smile.

“Yeah!” Relena squealed quietly.  “You look just like your daddy.”

“Goo…Bllll…hiccup!”

Relena laughed and gave him a small kiss.  She then looked up at Heero and offered the child to him.  Heero stood there not knowing what to do.

“Hold him Heero.  He’s your son.”

Heero, not knowing how to hold the child, took him from Relena.  He mocked the way Relena was holding the baby and looked to her for her approval.  She only nodded her head, Heero sighing in relief.  He looked down at the little bundle in his arms.  ‘He’s so small.’

“Ahhh...*hiccup*…” Heero placed a finger in his son’s hand was taken back by the amount of force his son had.  ‘Strong grip.  Just like your daddy.  Daddy…’ Yes the name was foreign to him.   He had a bigger responsibility now.  Being a good father, husband (soon to be), a Preventer, and a sane man.  He smiled at his thoughts and at the fact that his son was sucking on his finger.

“Will you breast feed or give him the bottle,” the doctor asked.  Relena looked from her son to Heero to the doctor, who still had the mask on.  Her eyes, seem all too familiar,’ she thought.  The doctor noticed as well.  ‘I don’t plan on showing my identity.’

“Mrs. Yuy…”

Relena snapped out of her little daze and answered with a smile.  “I’ll breast feed him.”  Heero looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

“What, you want breast milk too Heero,” Relena questioned.  He only smirked at her remark.  ‘I plan on having a taste sooner or later Relena.’   He handed the baby back to Relena and turned towards the doctor.  But the doctor spoke before he could ask his questions.  “We need to know the name of your son so it could be recorded and there will be no sex for at least six weeks.”

Heero glanced quickly at Relena.  “No problem.  I wanted to know…”

“I will recommend you to a pediatrician and if you’d like any other information regarding to your child, just call the person I’ll refer you to and they’ll be happy to answer all of your questions.”  Heero took note.  “I also have to ask…”

Interrupted again, “You still don’t have a name.”  Heero put his questions aside for the moment and looked at Relena.  “Well Relena?”  Relena looked down at her son sucking away at her right breast.  ‘Hmmm, what should it be?  “Eric…no.  Michael…no, not that either.  Hmmm?  How about…Donivan?  Heero…” She looked up at him to get his opinion.  He nodded his head.  “Nice name.”

“Then Donivan it shall be…Donivan Yuy.  I like it.”

“What about your last name,” he asked.

“Well then, Donivan Darlian-Peacecraft Yuy.  That’s a mouth full, but it will have to do since poppa insisted,” she remarked to her son with a small smile that held a lot of joy.

“Yes it is a nice name.  I’ll go tell the nurse and we’ll have it processed for you.  And if you want a copy, I’ll make one available.  I’ll take my leave.”  Before Heero could ask another question, the doctor had already left.  ‘Something strange about that woman.  I just can’t put my finger on it.’  “Heero…” Heero turned to his wife to be.

“I don’t know if you’ve noticed. But there’s something strange about that woman.”

“I know.”  As he headed for the door, Relena called out to him.  “Heero, where are you going?”   He stopped at the door and answered her before leaving.  “I’m going to find out who she is.”

Before she could have her say in it, he closed the door behind him.
