Title: Long Awaited Happiness
Author: GW Megan

Relena panted. She was so tired from running. She turned around. Heero wasn't
there! She remembered him right behind her though, she carefully started to
retrace her steps.

She found Heero, about three blocks away. He was lying there, not moving.
She nudged him with her sandy-colored paw.  His nose twitched.

"Heero get up, please get up."  People walked by, staring at the sandy cat
nudging the black one. When Relena would talk to Heero, it only sounded like
meows, purrs, and hisses. "Heero, please..."

Tears were running down her cheeks, "Heero, get up.  Are you faking?" She
tried to laugh, but it was to hard "Please, say you're faking, please...."
Relena bit his ear, and with all her remaining strength, pulled Heero up on
her back.

Walking into an alley, she dropped down.  Looking into his closed eyes, she
comforted him "Its ok, Heero, we'll be all right. He's gone, he can't hurt us
anymore.  Think about the fun life we'll have, no more abuse..." Relena
smiled. Curling up next to him, Relena fell asleep.

Waking up to rain drops dripping on her nose, Relena shook them out of her
fur and whiskers.  Heero was breathing normally again.  "So, all's he needed
was sleep" Relena thought to herself.

Relena pulled over a discarded box for shelter.  "Heero, wake up-" she hissed
in his ears "-get in the box! I don't want you getting sick." Shaking he got
up and walked into the box.

Standing in a back corner, he looked down.  "Thanks for, uh, helping me, back
there."

"What happened anyway?"

"My dark fur absorbs the sun, your light colored reflects it. I collapsed
from over heating."

"I thought I'd lose you forever... and you'd never be able to have feel the
happiness of freedom."  Relena had a flash back.

Their evil owner, lived to abuse animals, especially cats.  He had found
Heero and Relena in an abandoned house.  He pretended to love them at first.
He only wanted them to hunt, much larger animals.  If they didn't succeed
their mission, he'd whip them until they would collapse.  They had a couple
permanent scars.

Heero and Relena couldn't take much more.  When they were supposed to be
killing mountain goats, they took off running.  That's how they ended up here.

Relena came out of it when a gray nose touched her pink one.  Heero was
staring into her emerald green eyes.  "Its ok, we'll be fine now."

The sun came out, and they left their worn-out "home."

Heero and Relena found a nice no longer used fox den to live in.  They could
drink from a clear stream in front of their new home, or catch salmon and
sunfish from it.

They never said it, but they knew the other's feelings for each other.

Heero and Relena spent their whole life together.  They never did have
kittens, they didn't want to.  They both died on a storm-threating kind of
day in June. They were happy though.

Heero and Relena had experienced pure happiness, the kind they had dreamed
about when they were little.
