Chapter 1 – Mysterious Attacks
Duo’s violet eyes were filled with worry and anger. He kept cursing at himself. Breathless, he kept running as fast as his legs could carry them. He couldn’t think but of one person: Hilde. Her smile, her midnight blue eyes, her light personality, her care, her love, her…everything. He kicked open the door, panting hard in sweat. His eyes widened. Six black-suited men stood around a limp body. Screaming in rage, he attacked the men. The men pulled out their guns, ready to aim, but Duo already had his silencer in position. He shot them in the legs and arms, but in return, received a bullet in his arm. He kicked them aside and helped Hilde. He put her arm around his neck and held her other hand. He stared at her in such sorrow. Her chest held a gunshot wound and was bleeding profusely. Other than that, she was beaten up badly.
Hilde grinned, though rather weakly. She held her hand to his face. He winced. “Her hand…it is so cold…” thought Duo. “Duo, you came… And…your arm…”
“Don’t worry about my arm. Just hold still, I’m going to take you to the hospital. Those bastards, they’re gonna pay for what they have done to you…They’re gonna pay…” His voice was coarse.
“No, Duo… Remember, ‘love your enemies; bless them that curse you; do good to them that hate you and despitefully use you.’ Don’t worry, Duo…” Warm, bitter tears dropped onto her paling cheeks.
“I’m not giving up, Hilde.” He picked her up, flinching at the pain in his arm, and started to run to the hospital. Hilde’s face was serene and peaceful. His hand held hers tightly. Why…? Life has been cruel to him. This was no fair, to lose his beloved. It just couldn’t be real; this was too harsh…
“Oh, what deep violet eyes… Don’t be sad… I have lived my life content…especially with you…” she whispered. Tears filled his eyes once more.
“I love you…” said the suffering young man.
“I know, Duo, I know. I love you too…”
Heero growled in front of the computer. “What the hell is going on?” he cursed. He furiously snatched his loaded magnum and jacket before running out the door. On the screen of his computer it read:
“Mr. Winner, it is such a pleasure meeting with you today. Your financial support of the Mars Terraforming Project is substantial. On the behalf of Vice Foreign Minister Darlian, for she is busy at the moment, I thank you,” a man shook hands with the young Arabian. “Let us meet again another day.” Quatre smiled as the man left.
“Mr. Winner, are you ready to leave for home?” asked his secretary. Quatre nodded as his secretary led him to a black limousine. His good friend Rashid and several other leaders of the Maguanics accompanied him to the limousine. He was at the space colony convention center where the large meeting was held about the financial statistics of the Winner Incorporations. The corporation had recuperated from the death of his father, and has gotten more support after the war. The people’s opinion of the Winner family corporation was not cynical anymore, as it was in the year After Colony 195.
They arrived through the gate of the mansion and just got out of the car, when an explosion suddenly occurred. Quatre shielded himself from the debris and blinding light it caused. Rashid pulled him to a safe distance from the mansion, which was now in ruins.
“What the—? What just happened!?” inquired the bewildered young Gundam pilot. Rashid was outraged.
“Someone apparently had put in a bomb in our home. They wanted to kill you,” Rashid replied. He began to bark out orders. “Get some firefighters, you fools! Wait, have colony rain it down!”
A red Dodge Viper RT10 screeched down the parkway amidst the confusion. Duo jumped out of the car and run up to the surprised Quatre, his face contorted in anger, worry, and sorrow. He was breathless from running.
“You too!? Somebody’s been tracking us down!” panted Duo. “They-they even—Hilde!”
Quatre was terribly confused. “Who
would do this?” thought Quatre. “Perhaps, maybe for revenge… We can’t blame them… We have killed so many people, so it is
obvious that people would grudge against us. We must have a private meeting with
the other Gundam pilots. This is
crucial, before more innocent lives will be crushed!”
Trowa kicked a black-suited man in the stomach and gave an uppercut to
another one. Soon, all of them were
heavily bruised and frightened. “Don’t
ever dare attacking us again. You’re
lucky that this is the era of peace, otherwise, you would have been dead by
now. Leave now or I will change my
mind,” threatened Trowa. The men
retreated into their cars and left. He
was thoroughly angered. He was just
feeding the circus animals when he noticed a group of men coming out of the
trailer in which they slept in. After
finding out that they have attacked his sister, he had them beaten up. He glanced at the trailer and went into
it. The whole place was in a mess. His hard eyes softened in sadness to see his
sister Catherine in such a state. Her
head was bleeding and cuts were visibly seen.
Her bewildered, innocent eyes pierced Trowa’s heart. Trowa embraced his sobbing sister. “Who would—why?” she asked. Trowa closed his eyes with no answer.
“We are in the era of
peace now… Yet, still people continue
to hurt innocent lives…” Trowa thought. “When will they realize…what is it like
to hurt or kill innocent people… They
wouldn’t be considered a soldier, they would be considered a war-craving
fool. They don’t know what is it like
to be a soldier of war…” Such bitter memories…
He was a soldier, a position that was thought to be honorable. But being a soldier meant a life of misery
and pain. They had no sense of life and
peace. Their life, their recognition,
was based on war and chaos. While he
killed others, he was killing his own humanity, his sense of life. He thought that his life was of no
value. It was true: he had no home or
anyone to return to. But that all
changed when he found his sister. When
he was about to commit suicide, she slapped him in the face, with tears running
down her cheeks. Nobody has ever cared
for him that much, to tell him that his life matters to her.
He started to fight on Catherine’s behalf, for he vowed to protect
her. He wanted to fight for peace and
bring in an age where people no longer have to suffer miserably like him. To finally obtain it was like if he was
being reborn again, where he could start a new life. But why now… Unknown men
attacked them and Catherine’s crying.
He must find out and stop this.
He must talk to Heero and see what is this all about.
At Hong Kong in Quarry Bay, a large van was parked near a public park. “There is a large weapon base in the L1 colony cluster. We must investigate it. But is it strange. It suddenly appeared and detected by the Preventers surveillance over there,” said a Preventers officer. Wufei scoffed. Sally and Wufei stood behind the officer, looking at the computer screen. They were requested to report there by Lady Une.
“No one will be that stupid to let on to the Preventers that they have a large weapon base and even give us an location of it. It could be a false call—wait, hack into their mainframe,” commanded Wufei. Within a few minutes, the officer hacked into the main system of the weapon base. “Even their system was easy to hack into…this is suspicious…” Wufei thought.
“It is a weapon base. It’s hidden well into the area. There are large amounts of manufactured ships. There are no—wait, there are two mobile suits, Leos, confirmed,” reported the officer.
“But why there are only two?” Sally pondered.
“The person probably wants a dual. This person’s intention is not to declare war, but it is still considered a threat,” murmured Wufei.
“These naval ships are Rengoku-class battleships. They were the cutting edge of technology in naval weapons before the weapon treaty was issued. A couple of shots from these ships can destroy cities like Tokyo,” the officer said.
“Then we will have to destroy the base and arrest the person. It is not in our position to ponder about this person’s true intentions, but to capture him before anything happens,” Wufei concluded. “How cold… But even so, he is correct… I hope nothing terrible will break out…” thought Sally.
Suddenly, the computers started to blink. A virus? Clueless, the officer started to fend off the spreading virus in the computer to no avail. Two characters of kanji flickered onto the screen and a time set to ten seconds.
“Get of out here!” shouted Sally, pulling the official out of his seat and running. They jumped off the van just as it exploded, debris falling everywhere. “Damn, what happened? Report to Lady Une immediately, officer,” Sally scanned the area for any signs of injury. The officer took out his cellular phone. Wufei was cursing loudly.
“Wufei, do you know what the kanji means on the screen? It reads ‘Jinchuu’… Don’t they mean ‘Tenchuu’?” inquired Sally.
“No, ‘tenchuu’ means ‘the judgement of heaven.’ But Jinchuu means, ‘Even if Heaven spares you, we will bring you to judement.’ A completely different kind of justice than ‘tenchuu.’” Wufei narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “The person in charge of the weapon base probably wants revenge…”
Heero walked quickly to the parking lot of the dorms. He needed to get to the spaceport and steal a shuttle. Relena was in danger. He took out his keys to open the car, but he noticed a blinking red dot reflected on a puddle of water underneath his car. A bomb. He quickly got away from the car just in time before it exploded. Damn. Someone has been tracking his movements. The hell with it; he would just walk to there. Nothing was going to stop him. He started to run down the streets in quick strides. He ran through a park and approached a large bridge that was built over a river. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks. A figure stood in the middle of the bridge. The figure was a stoic young man. His hair was white and eyes were like the colors of autumn…
“You’re Aki…to…”Heero was bewildered. Suddenly, a young girl, possibly around fifteen, appeared behind the man. Her face was expressionless and haunting. “A-Aya…!”
“What’s wrong, Heero Yuy? You look like you’ve seen my sister’s ghost,” Akito smiled. The girl disappears. Heero’s eyes widened in shock.
Author’s Note: The other thing, I apologize for torturing the characters like that. You’re thinking, “Oh my goodness, what is she thinking!? Already torturing them in the first chapter!?” And for those of you who favors Duo, Hilde, Trowa, or Catherine over Quatre or Wufei, sorry. Quatre, well, I couldn’t think of anything. Wufei was an important aspect of this chapter, giving you two clues for the next chapter. If you have suggestion for the story, please kindly email me.
