Army Angels: The War

            The sky was a crimson color.  The heavens lit up the earth in an eerie scarlet glow, as lightening pierced the arid soil and thunder roared in anger.  A wet stream soon emerged from stumbling clouds, like blood oozing thick from a freshly cut wound.  Soon, the red firmament began to pour out its soul, letting the mortals below feel its undying pain.   The sky wept for those below it, too proud to shed fragile tears. It bled for the suffering people, and it bled for the thirsting earth.

    A young seventeen year old girl with honey blonde hair and cerulean eyes held her black umbrella firmly as the wind fought against her, trying to rip the pathetic shield out of her hands.  She stared at the sky; it was a dark, blood red.  She knew the story of the crimson sky.  As she stared at the bloodied heavens once more, noting every characteristic, every frighteningly beautiful detail, she remembered a little poem from her youth and spoke it out loud:

    There's a beginning, there's an end.

    There's a wound that will never mend.

    There's a story with life to tell,

    There's a fear of life in hell.

    There's a crimson sky,

    There, is where good men die.

    There's a life that goes on as it never ends.

    There's a beginning, there's an end.

    "That only means the war will be long and trying," she sighed, and looked onward as she approached her awaiting pink limo.  She was to speak to members about the war that was raging not too far from here.  The six main fighters for the Preventers would be there as well.  The sky and its atmosphere only set the grim mood.  It told truth, with no logic.  That's why she had to try and stop this as well.  No matter what, something must be done.  Even if she had to do it herself.

    "Come, Miss Relena, or we'll be late." Pagan, her loyal servant and friend urged her.

    "Thank you, Pagan.  I hope this doesn't take up much of your day," Relena graciously thanked Pagan.  The old man smiled in return as they began their journey.

 ************

    It was just above freezing in the Antarctic area.  The windshield was at 60 mi/hr, causing it to feel like 100 below zero.  It was still and quiet, besides the occasional whistling of the wind.  The invisible force bit fiercely at a seventeen-year-old boy’s face.  He had recently joined the war at the beginning of winter, along with five other soldiers.

    The six had started their training as young as two, thus after fifteen years of battling the wintry environment, they had become used to bitter elements.  They had started fighting the war at the beginning of winter in Asia.  It was only natural for it to be this cold.  Cold…it was a constant icy layer the wind-whipped youth felt in his heart.  A heart of stone, some would say.  Others would go as far to say he was inhuman.  He didn't care.  In fact, the frosty boy didn’t care about a lot of things.  He didn’t smile, he didn’t laugh, he didn’t love.  Who had time for such trivial matters when there were missions to complete?

  When he, and his five comrades, discovered the Preventers, the six were more than happy to jump in and help.  What else were they to do with themselves?  After all, they had trained for many years; why not put their exceptional skills to use?  Besides, the organization was lacking the strength and manpower necessary to win the war.

    The six soldiers had been in this war for almost two months now.  The started their journey from Asia, traveling to Japan, then Australia, finally reaching the harsh snowy landscape of Antarctica.  But such a trip was nothing new, as the war never stayed in one place, forcing its fighters to move where it wished.  It not only moved forward, scarring nation after nation; but it also stayed behind, never leaving a place once touched by its terror.  In this frightening pattern, the war had spread throughout the globe, seeking out any lone patch of peace as its victim.

But one day, that cold, seventeen-year-old boy, and his five comrades, decided to take action.

~~~On stage at Stuvor Auditorium~~~
    "Five minutes, Miss Peacecraft!" A boy ran up to her and hurried her to her location.  He was about fifteen, with short blonde hair.  He was short for his age, only standing at about four feet, eleven inches.  'Almost 5 feet,' Relena smiled to herself.
    "Thank you, ---"  Relena started.
    "Just call me Tom."  He answered her unspoken question.
    "Thank you, Tom."  Relena finished.
----------Five minutes passed quickly as she was finally cued to go on stage.  She approached the podium, and people were already clapping for her.
    "Thank you."  As it quieted, she continued.  "I'm here today to address this war.  It rages on only ten miles from here.  Because of this, I must be brief.
    “Our lives are in danger.  We, as a people, are in danger of losing everything we have, and everything we know.  The whole world is in danger, all because of a difference between two different kinds of people.  This war is being waged by brave men, and will see the deaths of many whom are dear to us.  Unfortunately, not all people want peace.  As we go on, the battles, and fighting between one another will eventually slow.  But we cannot wait.  We must stop this now in order to fulfill our wishes and dreams of peace.
    “Born of different worlds, woven together by fate.  And each has already risen to face their destiny, are our six, and only six of the world’s most trained and experienced fighters.  They are helping our Preventers in our fight for peace.  The six are: Commander Heero Yuy, and Captain Duo Maxwell.  Recently joining the Preventers are: Head Preventer Trowa Barton, Preventer Chang Wufei, Preventer Quatra Rababa Winner, and recently found, Preventer Zechs Merquise."
 Applause erupted from the small crowd as Relena announced the heroes of the battle.  She paused for another quick second to catch her breath and continued.
   “As I said before, these men are the best.  They are fighting for peace world wide, and are fighting so none of you have to.  We are in 'good' hands.”
    Thunder rattled the windows of the small auditorium, and the air chilled with fear.  Relena took the cue to send these people to their homes.
    “You all must leave here quickly and get home to your families.  Thank you!  Be careful, and may God keep you safe!  Good-bye."  Relena finished quickly.  The auditorium once again was filled with applause as she stepped down to leave the area.
    She waited to leave until all the people had left.  After a few moments, the auditorium was empty save for Relena and a man still sitting in his chair.  Relena walked up to the man and spoke with him.  "Sir?  Why do you stay, when there is a battle that would destroy this place any time now?  You should go home to your family."
    "Miss, I have no place else to go.  I have no home.  My family and house were...were destroyed soon after I left to come here.  I wish to stay, in hopes of being reunited with my family."  The man quietly finished.
     Relena's heart went out to the man.  An idea struck her.  "Sir, why don't you come and stay with me?  It gets pretty lonely in that big old house.  Will you stay and keep me company?"  Relena kindly offered.
    The man looked up at her in shock.  When he answered, he was completely calm.  "You are not afraid of what the people will think?  Holding a poorer, I mean, wouldn't this hurt your reputation as Vice Foreign Minister?"  ' Not as badly, until they find out who I really am...' The man smirked, as he thought the last little bit, still keeping totally calm.
    Relena laughed and said, "Of course not!  If I were afraid of the people and their thoughts, I would be afraid of myself.  I'm just like any other person.  We are all the same.  And if I cannot open up my home, to my people, I would feel like I am undeserving of my position.  I won't take no as an answer."  She smiled and the man smiled back and shook his head.
   'Only a little longer, then I can drop this facade.'  he thought before they left to her car.
~Back at Mansion~
    "This will be your room.  Mine is up the stairs to the right, second door on the left.  If you need anything, let me, Pagan, or any of the other servants here know.  I'll leave you to settle in.  Oh, and Pagan will be up here to give you new clothes.  By the way, what's your name?"  Relena finished.
    "Jim...Jim Erikson, Miss Peacecraft."  He bowed slightly and straightened.
    "Call me Relena, please.  Good-Day."  Relena curtsied and left to change.
~~~~~Moments later~~~~~  She changed into blue jeans and a green tank top.  Her hair was pulled up in a ponytail, and her bangs curled just right.  Her make-up consisted of a pinkish, tan sparkling eye-shadow, red and pink lip-gloss mix, with black mascara to finish off her look.  In guy terms, she looked hot.

    Relena looked herself up and down, and decided she would wear her black boots.  Exiting her room, she ran into Lucretzia Noin.  Preventer and Mom of a toddler boy.  She was tall and thin with dark blue hair.  Her eyes were big and blue.  She was dressed in a Preventer uniform.

    "Sorry Miss Noin! I wasn't looking.  We have a new guest, by the way.  His name is Jim, so if you run into him, don't kill him."  Relena smiled.

    "Oh, it's ok.  I was checking on little Zach.  Uhm, would you like to come with me to P.H.Q.?"  Noin questioned.

    "Sure.  I was just headed there actually."

~~Preventers H.Q.~~  "Noin!  Get over here, quickly!  Zechs Merquise has been shot.  What's worse is the other five special agents are moving to a new location.  Still unverified."  Sally exclaimed as Noin and Relena entered the room.

    "What's the current status, Sally?  You know what I mean."  Relena asked running with Noin to Sally's side.

    "It's not good, but it proves to be better than we first expected.  Commander Yuy has pulled out five others and are moving, we believe, in the direction of Europe.  A more precise location, here.  It appears Zechs was a part of the five that were pulled out.  His reason is obvious to why.  The other four are the best, along with Yuy.  Relena, why the sudden interest?"  Sally finally finished, catching her breath.

    "Because a man lost his family and wishes to take his own life.  Because I know how to use a gun, thanks to you.  Because I can't do anything else until the war is over.  Is that enough reasons, or should I keep going?"  Relena finished confidently.

    " 'Nuff said.  Noin, get Hilde, Cathrine, and Dorothy.  This war could use a woman's touch.  You all will accompany Miss Relena.  If there's one girl out there, might as well be me.  -Rele, you are one of the best shooters in H.Q. But you realize if you shoot to kill, it will ruin your reputation as 'peace-maker'?"

    "I know.  Now let’s go already!"  She replied, fixing a blank look on her face as she spoke the words that may change her forever.

~~~~~Upstairs with "Jim"~~~~~
    "Ok, all I have to do is connect the line directly.  Ah!  There."  He paused for a second, making sure no one was coming.  "This is Addy Jo.  Code name Jim Erikson.  I have successfully infiltrated the mansion.  Access to house is clear.  No protection at all.  Proceed with operation.  Stop."  He turned off the radio, and began preparations to commence Operation: Kill Peace.
~Author's Note:  Ok!  So how is this for a first chapter!?  Ugh!  Such trying work!  lol  Some of you might be confused as to what some of the abbreviations mean.  Here are some =answers, hope this helps:  H.P.=Head Preventer; P.H.Q.=Preventer Head Quarters; S.A.=Special Agent(s)  and of course H.Q. is Head Quarters.  I hope this clears a little up.  And I also hope you liked Chapter One to Army Angels: The War.  Should I continue?  Do you like it enough?  Send me ALL of your comments.  Even flames.  Ok, bye for now!       ~L.A.~
