Part 4
Heero gave Lucrezia one sneer before she pushed him into the room, his fists
clenched, eyes narrowed. His body was tense, his spine rigid. When Lucrezia
closed the door after he walked into the room, or rather was pushed into
there, he turned, and his eyes widened. There lay Relena, IVs connected to
her, machines hooked up to her. She was almost as pale as her light, almost
white, peach sheets. Her lips a chalky gray. She lay still, only the slight
movement of her chest as she breathed.
He slowly made his way to the bed side, and immediately sunk into the chair
there, for his legs all of a sudden felt like jelly. He took her cold hand in
his, and brought it to his cheek. Damn, he felt weak. He was not supposed to
feel like this. But hell, she wouldn't know. She was asleep... He layed his
cheek against her palm, and turned to press a small kiss there. Damn, he felt
human.
And she felt so cold. He didn't like it. Her skin felt like ice. And she was
so pale...God. He put a hand to her cheek, and stared down at her face. She
looked so peacful... but so damn pale. And felt so cold. He didn't give a
damn about what he was 'supposed' to do anymore... He would stay here for now.
----------------------
Duo sat in his apartment, wringing his hands together, waiting for some news
on Relena's condition. Hilde said she would call... and it had been almost
three hours since that. So much for the get together at Quatre's place
tonight.
Finally, instead of a call, Hilde burst through the door, breath heaving,
clothing soaked. It was still pouring outside. Cold, icy drops of rain. He
didn't even notice until now that it was raining like that. He stood and
grabbed a blanket, putting it around Hilde as she sat down. Hilde looked at
him, eyes sparkling.
"Duo, she's gonna be okay." Hilde said, pushing wet strands of hair
from her
face. She grabbed both his hands and waited for him to look at her. "It
isn't
your fault..."
"Yeah, it is." Duo said, disgust dripping from his voice. He pulled
away from
her to stand up, and started to pace about the room. "I made her like that.
I
had to say those things to her.... had to yell at her like that."
"Duo, of course you were mad! You had a right to be! But it wasn't your
fault
she got hit by a car!" Hilde yelled at him, getting off the couch in record
speed and cupping his face him her hands. "Duo, it wasn't your fault with
Heero, and it wasn't your fault with Relena."
"It was and is my fault..." He choked out, his throat feeling like it
closed
up. "From something I did to Heero, and now Relena. I betrayed Heero, and
now
am dumping off Relena because she said still cared about me!"
Hilde let her hands fall to her sides, in a gesture of giving up. That was
it...she wouldn't argue with him. She turned and grabbed the blanket, and
walked toward the bathroom. "Whatever, Duo. When you get some common sense,
call me. If not, take the couch, if you don't mind. Or maybe I will."
He lunged at her, and caged her against the wall. His violet eyes were
clouded with something, glazed over from the anger that had drained out of
him. He layed his forehead against hers, closed his eyes. "I am so sorry,
Hilde... I don't know whats wrong with me. But it seems strange that they
both got hurt in similar ways because of me...because of my big mouth..."
Hilde sighed and studied his face. "Yeah, it is. But it doesn't mean its
your
fault..." She put her arms around him and hugged him. "She'll be
okay...the
doctor said so. And Heero has been there....its all gonna be okay..."
"I hope so." Duo muttered, closing his eyes and sighing.
------------------------------
Relena's eyes fluttered open, and she had to close them immediatly after
because of the assult of the white light. Her eyes burned, and once she got
used to it, they still watered. She blinked for a few moments, then moves her
head, and pain shot through her head. Finally she started to get feeling back
in her body, and felt her hand in another's. She turned her head, seen the
unruley hair that could only be Heero Yuy's.
He was sloutched in the chair, holding her hand in his, his head layed on the
bed. He had stayed...Her heart lept, and her eyes watered considerably
more.
She, with some strength, squeezed his hand, and let her head fall back. He
had came, had stayed. Jesus, that just felt so good. Knowing he would stay
with her like she did with him. Or atleast she hoped he stood with her....
She closed her eyes once again, and was finally noticing the needles in her
arms, the machines she was hooked up too. She felt herself slipping back to
sleep, and tried to stop it. She didn't want to fall back asleep. But it won,
and she fell into the blackness.
-------------------
"I met a new friend." Lynn said cheerfully, showing her older sister
the
pictures she and her new friend had drew.
"Thats wonderful, hun" The young woman answered her younger sister as
she
looked at the pictures. They were, of course, of flowers. Of plants. The
usual nature thing.
"His name was Heero. He was tall, Cantori. Taller then you. And he colored
with me." The small auburn haired girl said, her smile blooming.
Heero...that name sounded so familiar. But Cantori had to smile. Her sister
was such a social thing. "Taller then me, huh? Man, he must have been
tall."
"He was. His friend is in the hosipital 'cause she gots into a
accident."
Lynn said matter-of-factly.
"Really...A girl..." It hit her. "Oh my God...."
"Whats wrong?" Lynn's multi-colored eyes narrowed in worry, her brows
drawing
together.
"I know Heero... He went to high-school with me." Cantori sat on the
bed,
weighing her thoughts. "So...Relena is in here because she was in an
accident...Ha. It has to be him..."
Lynn blinked for a few moments, not getting what her sister was going at. So
she just shrugged, and started to draw again. Her sister's out-loud-thinking
was now drowned out as she paid all her attention to her drawing that she was
making for her new friend.
--------------------
Cantori ran down the halls, straight, jet black hair pulled into a pony tail.
She made it to the secratary's desk, almost out of breath.
"Relena Peacecraft's room." She said between gasps for air.
"We have no Relena Peacecraft here, ma'am." The lady said after typing
in a
few keys, one penciled in eyebrow raised.
"Dorlian, then. Relena Dorlian."
The lady typed in a few mores keys, nodded, and looked up at Cantori.
"Ma'am,
we are not allowed to let people in unless-" She was cut off.
"I am Relena's brother, Milliardo.. This young lady is allowed to visit.
Follow me, Miss....?" Milliardo raised an eyebrow, waiting for a name.
"Malistin. Cantori Malistin. I know Relena from high-school." The
black
haired young woman answered, nodding her head.
"Well, then. Follow me."
Cantori followed the man to a room, and watched him as he spoke to a
brunette, short hair covering half of the woman's face. He motioned for
Cantori to come, and then motioned for her to sit. But she didn't sit.
"A friend of hers is already in there, and wished to stay with her alone
for
a while. He should be out shortly." This came from the brunette. She held
out
her hand, and offered a smile. "Lucrezia Noin."
"Cantori Malistin." She took the older woman's hand, shook it.
"Is, by any
chance, the friend in there Heero Yuy?"
Lucrezia and Milliardo's eyes widened. "You know Heero?"
"Well, I went to school with Relena for a while...and I knew Heero from
that.
My sister mentioned making friends with an older young man named Heero, and
when I heard it, I got the hint it was him."
"Ha. So it was your sister Yuy was drawing with. I swear, that was a kodac
moment." Lucrezia chuckled.
"Ah...well. He'll be out in a moment." Milliardo said, and leaned
against the
wall. There was something about this girl...ah, he didn't care. He looked at
Heero as he walked out of the room, expression blank, but a smile in his eyes.
