Part 3
Heero sat at Duo's apartment, slumped in a chair, his head bowed. On the other
hand, Duo sat rigidly straight, his eyes wide, across from Heero.
"She didn't say that...." Duo said, gripping the arms of the chair.
" No no no no no..."
"She did, and there's nothing I can do, or that you can do about it."
Heero said, his voice the usual monotone. After a few minutes of uncomfortable
silence, Heero finally got up, and walked to the door. "I'm going to go.
I'll see ya tonight, okay." With that, he opened the door, but stopped at
Duo's question.
"Do you think there's any chance for you and Relena, Heero?" Duo spoke
quietly, hoping he would get a good answer.
"After this, no, I don't think it's possible." Heero replied, walking
out of the apartment and closing the door slowly behind him.
He walked down the halls, his mind and thoughts racing. What the hell was he
going to do now? He knew the truth, Relena cared for Duo. But what of him? He
just sighed and pressed the button for the elevator. And he felt like screaming
when he seen who walked out. There was Relena, dressed in a long coat and a
hood, soaked. Their eyes met for a moment, then Heero pushed open
the door to the elevator as it was closing and walked in, his hands clenched so
hard that his nails drew blood from his palms.
Relena looked at the elevator for a long while before she could move. No doubt
he was angry, seeing her here. She pushed her hood down and ran a hand through
her hair, walking to Duo's apartment door. She knocked a few times, and finally
a pale Duo answered, his eyes full of rage.
"Duo...I...whats wrong??" Relena said, stepping in, turning and he
closed the door after her.
He sat down, bowing his head so his bangs casted shadows over his face.
"How the hell could you do this to all of us?" He finally spoke, his
voice deadly quiet.
"I...what are you talking about?" Relena's eyebrow's drew together.
"Get out!" Duo said harshly, jumping up from the chair and opening the
door. "Just go, Rel. I don't want to talk to anyone about anything right
now. So just go."
Relena walked out and ran down the hallway, then the stairs, not wanting to wait
for the elevator. She didn't want to wait for the elevator. She pushed open the
doors and stepped out into the rain, sobs finally escaping her lips, and the
rain hid her tears. Why was she crying over this? She asked herself that over
and over even when she knew the answer.
She never seen the black car coming towards her, barely felt it hit her because
her body was numb and her mind was somewhere else. Finally she felt the heat of
the car by her, felt the car speed away. She closed her eyes and coughed, blood
dripping down her chin. She could even feel it dripping down her sides, her
face, and pooling around her. The last thing she saw was
blue. Those prussian blue eyes. And the last thing she felt was warmth. A warmth
enveloping her.
Heero felt like killing someone when he seen the car speed out of no where and
slam into her. He could feel his pulse race with anger, and with fear. His feet
brought him to her, his arms wrapped around her, and he held her to him, feeling
her blood on his skin, slick and warm, dripping down his arms. He didn't know
what to do, so he did all he could. He yelled for Duo.
Duo appeared at the window, and his eyes grew wide. He dashed from the window to
the phone and quickly dialed up for an ambulance. As the sirens were heard, Duo
stood on the stoop on the apartment building, watched Heero get into the
ambulence after Relena was put it, and motioned for him to get in. Duo shook his
head, turned, and walked into the building. He knew this from somewhere before.
It was always caused by him. And he hated himself for it. First Heero because he
failed to tell someone something, now Relena.
He wasn't going to let anyone get hurt any longer.
~~~~~~~~
Heero held her hand tightly in his on the ride in the ambulance to the hospital.
His pulse was going haywire, sweat beaded on his brow. He could feel his hands
and body shaking in fear, in anger. He was right there, leaning against the
building, and he was so close. He did nothing. Just watched as the car sped
toward her. And he could of kill someone for it.
The paramedics pushed Heero away from Relena, checking her pulse, trying their
best to stop the bleeding. He worked with quick hands, their gloves stained with
the think red liquid that was flowing from the injuries of the honey blonde
girl's body. Even her hair was soaked with blood. Her face was ghostly pale, her
lips a chalky gray. She didn't move with they tried their best to stop the
bleeding.
Relena was awake, or so it seemed. But it was like she was so far away from the
noises. She couldn't move, talk, open her eyes. Nothing. Her whole body was
numb, so she didn't know if she was bleeding. She felt Heero's presence, could
sense the worry. But she didn't know what was happening... And hated it. She
struggled to open her eyes.
The paramedic opened her eyes to look at the pupils, and she took this chance to
look around quickly, and forced her eyes to stay open. The paramedics murmured
things back and forward, still working. Her eyes locked on Heero before the lids
grew to heavy for her to keep open, and she seen his pain stricken face. She
seen the anger, the fear. And the paleness.
Finally the feeling was returning back to her body, and she wished it wasn't.
She could feel her muscles aching, her injuries causing white-hot pain to flash
through her like lightning. She could feel the blood that had dripped down her
chin, the blood on her sides, on her head. Everywhere. And she felt cold.
Freezing cold. She groaned in pain, and started to convulse. The pain, the
feelings, and the coldness wasn't a good combination for her.
Finally they arrived at the hospital, and Relena was rushed in. They forced
Heero to sit in the waiting room, which made him all the more nervous. While he
leaned his head back and closed his eyes, a small child tugged on his shirt. He
opened his eyes, and met orbs of a grayish blue-green. A head of chestnut hair,
a kind smile, and rosy cheeks. He just started at the young girl.
"Hello, mister. I'm Lynn. What's your name?" The girl asked, her voice
soft. She wore, Heero noted, a whitish pink hospital gown, and couldn't have
been older the four or five.
"Heero." He answered, oddly amused by the young child.
The small girl smiled and held out a small hand, which Heero took in his larger
one to shake. "Nice to meet you, Heero. How comes you are in the
hospital?" She asked.
"Well...a friend of mine was in an accident." Heero said, his voice
dry.
"Oh. Well, I'm sick. The doctor said I have to stay here for a
while..." She sniffed, and then beamed up at him. "Wanna come play
with me?"
Heero smiled, despite himself, and followed the little girl who still help his
hand. She brought him to a room, filled with drawing, blocks, kids toys. She
hopped onto the bed and motioned for him to sit, and he did. Heero watched as
she got her crayons and paper, and drew a picture, telling him to give it to his
friend who was sick. His defenses fell, and he gave in to drawing with the
child.
Lucrezia was looking all over, and found Heero no where around the waiting room.
Finally an older woman said she seen someone of Heero's description walk with a
small child to the rooms. Lucrezia muttered something and looked in the rooms,
and finally, stopping dead in her tracks, found Heero. There he sat, with a
little girl, drawing a picture with crayons, the girl in his lap.
Her lips pulled into a soft smile, and finally she knew his weakness. And the
best part... he had a smile on his face.
She didn't know how long she stood there, watching the Perfect Soldier and this
little girl, but it had to have been a while, for Milliardo came looking for
her. He stopped when Lucrezia put up a hand, and motioned him to look. And when
he looked, his eyes widened, and he put a hand to his head. "What is the
world coming too..." He muttered, and turned, walking away.
Lucrezia looked back, to see the girl sleeping, and Heero laying her under the
covers of the bed. When he turned, her eyes locked on his, and she smiled.
"Heero... Relena is in her own room... if you want to go visit her."
Heero nodded, and walked to Noin, who showed him to the room. "Is she going
to be all right?" He asked quietly, letting the fear once again seen out of
his defenses.
"They said she will...hopefully. She has a good chance, if not some minor
injuries that can cause a limp or something. So... I say she all right. Even
coming to a little." The woman replied, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Heero... she cares about you. And you know it."
"But she loves Duo." He said, a hint of pain, and a mix of a sneer in
his voice.
"Not more then she loves you..." Lucrezia said stiffly, and walked him
into the room, then let him be alone with Relena.
